Apparently this guy is a sociologist. This is a quote I ran across by him, felt the need to pick it apart because it made me go WTF.

“…misogyny is a cultural attitude of hatred for females because they are female… Misogyny … is a central part of sexist prejudice and ideology and, as such, is an important basis for the oppression of females in male-dominated societies. Misogyny is manifested in many different ways, from jokes to pornography to violence to the self-contempt women may be taught to feel toward their own bodies.”

Okay. Misogyny is cultural attitudes of hating women for being women.

It is a central part of male-dominated sexism.

But if you're going to call some jokes misogynistic, then aren't some racists, some misandric, etc.? Isn't that something rather narrow to get offended by?

How is pornography misogynistic? Let's look at it this way - Is straight, male-female porn misogynistic? Is female-female porn misogynistic? Is male-male porn misogynistic? You can't have it all - I suppose one could claim male-female is and same-gender isn't, but then you would need to claim that, not blanket porn.

Violence is misogynistic? Nevermind most DV is initiated by women against men... and I'm not sure how other violence can be misogynistic.

And the self-contempt women can be taught to feel for their own bodies, which is obviously something only women are ever pressured to feel, and which is obviously all done by men, even though all the people I've ever talked to who feel that pressure have said it's from their own gender, and just as many men and women do.
