I'm posting on a throwaway for reasons that will become obvious.
I grew up poor as dogshit and was relatively unattractive; I clawed out and went to a top tier college, became very athletic and attractive, and built a decent career. The difference in how women, even some of the very same ones, responded to me between my 17-year old and 22-year old versions was fucking astounding. So, because of this relatively rare experience, I learned all I needed to know about relationships between men and women by the time I was in my early 20's.
This was over a decade ago, so you might say I "swallowed the pill" long before this term came to be. As you might expect, my 20's were quite fun.
Fast forward to the present. I found an absolutely great woman and married her, and we have literally a charmed life at this point. I know this is heresy for some here, but although all women (even the best) do irrational shit, some women are far and away better than others. My wife is among them. I love her dearly and have not, nor do I ever intend on betraying her.
This is the crux of my question.
One cannot turn off biology. No straight man can look at attractive women without some form of primal desire. It's just not possible. I've never acted on it since I've been married, but it always lingers, and it is a burden.
I'm also attractive enough that women will flirt with me in even non-social settings. I always make it clear that I'm married, and that sometimes pushes them off. But, sometimes it doesn't, and by God they come on harder. In most cases, it is the "why do you have to be married" line. In more extreme cases, they have straight-up propositioned me.
And so, temptation is ever present.
I've done my best to minimize it.
After I realized I was going to get serious with my wife, I broke off all contact with any former girlfriends and FWB-types. It wasn't hard. I often dropped off the radar either for work or simply because I wanted a change of pace. I don't use Facebook or non-anonymous social media. I stopped going out to bars and got out of the social life.
Of course, I had some more time on my hands, and some of that was and is spent with my family. But, one cannot just dump himself into others, even his own family; it's not healthy. So, I have always invested part of my newfound time into my own pursuits, getting more advanced education or increasing my time spent on various physical pursuits. Luckily, all of my interests have always been largely male-dominated, so I rarely run into women outside of a professional setting.
But, I have to travel from time to time, and attend social functions semi-routinely. And, when I do, it is inevitable that I will interact with women, and very likely that they will flirt with me. I admit that I often cannot help but to interact with them how I did when I trolled bars every weekend.
As I stated, I have a charmed fucking life and family and will do all I can to protect and maintain it. I have not cheated, and don't have any desire to do so. But biology is a sonofabitch. I'm just looking for tips from others who may be in a similar situation on how to negate or mitigate their own goddamn biology.
