Me: 20 something female, him around the same age.

I met this guy randomly a few weeks ago. At first I really liked him for his personality and the way he could hold conversation and I respected him for his confidence A LOT and ability to meet new people - complete turn on. I didn't mind the way he looked even though he wasn't my usual type. Now after getting to know him I hate his lack of genuine emotional availability and I know there's nothing I can do and he has this underlying asshole persona that I absolutely can not tolerate that I just picked up on.

The problem is this guy comes off as dumb, but he's really smart and extremely observant - way more emotionally intelligent than I ever expected. Anyway, the reason for nexting him is that he originally came off as intellectual and cool and almost genuine, but now everything about him screams player and it turns me off completely. I feel like he's capable of picking up other girls in front of me, but isn't dumb enough to blatantly do so. I'm 99% sure he's looking for a hookup and I'm not the person for that and I've made it crystal clear to him. I haven't hooked up with a guy since my ex (way back beginning of last year) and I haven't met a guy I genuinely like and trust since - even though finding a guy to just hookup with is really easy, but I don't have the taste for it - pretty much no guy matches my ex so far when it comes to looks, intelligence, and treating a girl well in all aspects - so my standards are so ridiculous for anything at this point which is why I've gone so long without hooking up with anyone.

Initially I thought this guy would be a cool person to hang out with and at least go on adventures with in the summer which I what I was looking for - now I'm totally terrified and want to run the other way because I think he's looking for a fuck buddy. My problem is I'm not sure how he'll react and I need a clean get away.

TLDR: I completely misread a guy. How do I next a guy without repercussions?
