It's not beta or alpha, it's just nature. Women date up, and so you have to be at the top so that is less likely to happen.

Not really. In my opinion it's more about being able to walk away. If a woman branch swung and the guy she did it to shrugged and walked off she would probably chase after him. I've been in the situation multiple times where I've been with a girl and another guy comes up strong and I'll just ignore it or I'll be busy talking to someone else. Your complete apathy to the situation will only leverage your self worth and even if she did leave, there is the knowledge you can easily find a new one in no time. Keep that sort of mentality.
