I can suggest reading The Manipulated Man. It has opened my eyes to how a lot of modern society functions. It details how women, although not as clever or useful as a man, use their wiles to get men to support and provide for them throughout their whole lives. It goes to the extremes and implies women really only view men as slaves, they let them battle it out between them and then they coldly and callously choose the one they think will be the hardest worker for them. It also states that women are only interested in the opinion of other women, and want nothing more than to make them envious by snagging the better worker (or IMHO the best looking chad). This all rings true to me, and it makes me ruminate about my own impulses.
When I was back in my blue pill days and married, I did, and would have done, pretty much anything for my wife. It was conditioned in me through by the way I was raised, by society and my by wife herself. Women are helpless and need a man I thought. It just seemed like the natural order of things, I would go to work, the wife would stay at home and 'do the housework'. It's how my parents did things, why shouldn't it be that way? The urge for me to protect women at all costs was staggering, even if she was totally safe I would then worry about her state of mind. So I know from my own experience that I can be turned into a slave, and when I look around I see that pretty much every man I know is a slave to someone or at the very least some thing.
It makes me think about how we normally go about trying to attract a woman's attention. We work out, get fit, become more productive, get a better job and develop aspirations for a greater purpose. I know that is meant to be for the benefit of the person improving, but is it? Are we sure all that effort isn't actually slavish behaviour? All designed to ultimately signal to a woman that you'd make a great worker, or at the very least a temporary trophy to make her friends jealous.
It is hard to stave off the slave mentality. Even hobbies can be a trap. Are you sure you're learning the guitar for your own enjoyment or are you doing it to try an ultimately impress someone in future? Is the goal of finding your mission just finding something worthy of being a slave to? If your thing is collecting material possessions I'm reminded of the quote:
"The things you own end up owning you."
In our culture (and especially TRP) hard work and dedication is seen as the biggest virtue, and the only path to a successful, happy life. Now it all depends on where you are in life, but if you're already fairly comfortable I'm not convinced it is. I see it as signalling to others how much of a good slave you can be.
Interested in others thoughts about this quandary.
