First world depression and mental illness

I think it's due to people believing that the fake lifestyles they see on Instagram etc are real, the pressure from social media etc to be liked means that people darent be themselves, that they believe the guff they are told about "being a nice guy" in touch with his feminine side, and that kids are taught they can have and be anything that they want just because they want it, and of course there are no losers (they do it in races etc at school - everyone is a winner for participating).

Then they get into the real world and find that they can't have what they want, they can't achieve the lifestyle they think they deserve just because they want it, they can't form relationships, they discover there are winners and losers - and that they feel like the loser because the real world is 180 degrees away from the fantasy they've been taught, and on top of all of that they don't really know who they are or what they want out of life.

They also have mountains of debt from college (and they find their qualificiation in gender studies or whatever is useless), and from trying to buy a lifestyle on credit, and so they can't cope.

Their feelings of self worth come from fake likes from fake friends in a fake online reality.

Plus on top of that they're being blitzed from all sides because they're toxic and the cause of all of the worlds problems.

I think social media, media in general, politicians and the radical activists from all sides have created a society that leaves people feeling deeply unhappy.

But they haven't got anything else to replace it.

I’ve thought about this a shit ton of times because I’ve been to many third world countries and for the most part they are much happier than Americans. I think it’s due to Americans always wanting more stuff, more money, money attention. No one is content with what they have.

Partly.

People who've had to adapt and fight and struggle get a certain security and "can do" attitude from it.

There's nothing wrong with comfort, but if it allows people to do nothing, risk nothing and achieve nothing then it's hardly beneficial.

Welfare state and endless comfort... yeah, it will definitely make some people lazy. Others it makes no difference because they're already internally driven.

How would these be addressed?

Address what? People make their own choices. If they want to be sheep and used by the wolves then so be it.
