When should I be persistent vs when to pull back?

Example 2 years back with my exgf she said no to chill the next day but I knew she wasnt doing anything. I ignored her no message and on the day I called about 20mins before I was to meet saying I've left. She protested a bit but finally I was in fucked her and left.

But TRP says to pull back. Pulling back would be appropriate on plates. But would it be in the above scenario?
