I'm all for women joining important jobs like firefighting, IF they can handle the same taxing tasks that men have to deal with in the field. Or else, more people will be stuck in burning buildings.

Okay I get that the vast majority of women are not as strong as the vast majority of men, but it’s kind of weird that most firefighters are white. In my area, several firefighters are in hot water because they were racist about the first black fire chief. Firefighting is a bit of an old boys club and for a long time it was not job that black guys were allowed to do due to social pressure and hazing.

I agree. Any job should be inclusive as long as those applying meet the criteria, and African American men definitely do for fire fighting.
Prejudice against people of color in certain jobs still exists, and fire fighting is definitely one of them. As someone who grew up in a smallish town in the south, it was also apparent there for me.
I hope we get to the point in society where people base your ability for a job on your skill and fit, and not by some biased reason such as your skin color or whether your man or woman.

My wife was a firefighter for 2 years before we were married but because of her smaller frame she had a hard time with all of the equipment and ended up getting a neck injury from having to carry so much weight. Women can join if they really want to but it’s not easy!

My dad was a volunteer firefighter for a few years and he has a few stories from the academy about female trainees getting kicked out because they expected to not have to carry as much weight in training due to being a woman. Like no, if you can't carry a grown man out of a building while in full gear, then you don't get to be a firefighter, end of story.
