Everyone/group is treated with their own stereotypes, assumptions and bias but to say one of two sexes is treated better overall is dangerous and doesn’t make much sense.

but its not just one every guy that goes to court gets raped by the system that is biased in favor of women
[–]xXCzechoslovakiaXx -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes, men are being punished more harshly in court and biased against. But that isn’t at all reflective of societal problems and day to day problems. What I was trying to say is that if one sport is bad that doesn’t mean that other sports are automatically the same. Societal issues are vastly more complicated and there are loads of problems for both sexes
Both sexes fight their own heap of problems and these oppression olympics aren’t gonna fix any of them. How about we try to find ways to fix both sets of problems
[–]pikachugotyou 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
every issue men face is a societal problem. always favouring women regardless of what has happened. womens issues are far less oppresive and often men have those same issues on top of what we already have to deal with. the courts are biased yes but so is everything else there is always the stigma that men not just some but all. are rapists. perverts. abusers. and are sexist, this is carried through media and other sources condemming men in any and all things they will go through in their life time. there is a western veiw that men and boys regardless of how old they are. are bad and we are shamed for being men this is something women today do not expearience. do they get treated badly. yes but not on the same level that men for some reason as a whole tolerate.

Men don’t have a 1/3 chance of being sexually assaulted in the military.
Men don’t have to be scared of being raped walking home at night.
Skewed odds in favor for men of being hired over women of the same qualifications
Many religions say men should be the controller of the household and the woman should be subservient
Women who don’t have children often get their femininity called into question while men don’t have their masculinity questions
Edit: not trying to say women have it worse than men, just fulfilling that guys question. Both sexes have problems but to think that women have absolutely 0 like this guy implied is insane
Edit: wage gap data wasn’t accurate so I removed it
[–]blueshitstorm 14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What wage gap? Did those studies that claim women get paid less take into account women choose less paying jobs among a variety of other factors?
[–]Hailhydra775 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link
Wage gap has been disproven millions of times and when the study you cited was brought up infront of the British parliament it was quickly disproven once again.
Not in the military but men make up the majority of rape victims. when you view it through the microscope of a single group like you are its easy to skew statistics in your favor. Also the military standards have been lowered so women can enter the military. So Uncapable women are being put into squads as a hinderence because "mah equity"
Yet again men make up the majority of rape victims. This mostly comes from prison but men are also the majority of violent crime victims s so yes they should be just as scared of walking home at night.
Thanks to diversity highering and affirmative action its actually the opposite of what you claim, now way under qualified women are being chosen over more qualified men.
Those same religions allow women to just not work and stay home with the kids. He'll its still considered taboo for men to be a stay at home father and their looked down apon.
All the bullshit you brought up would have held water 60 years ago. And even if all the bs points you brought up held any water they're would still be less examples then the discrimination men face.

[–]Hailhydra775 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
"As of 1998" notice how your source has to cut off everything from the last 23 years to screw the data. more men are raped in us when prison populations are included in the figures
[–]xXCzechoslovakiaXx 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
There is more to the modernized world than the US.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1072770/number-of-rapes-in-europe/
But Ignoring what I just said, I didn’t know that more men were raped in the us than women, but many of that is prison. We have to include what I originally said, “men don’t have to be scared of being raped walking home at night.”
While we do need to fix the inmate rape/sexual assault problem we also can’t ignore the fact that in the general population women have much more to fear about rape than men do.
Again, I’m not trying to say one is worse than the other. THEY ARE BOTH HORRIBLE THINGS THAT NEED TO BE FIXED SYSTEMICALLY.
[–]Hailhydra775 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I'll conced the point that men don't have to be as worried about being raped unless they're jailed. But they are more likely to be murdered/mugged/jumped walking home at night then women are to be raped. Also the majority of rapes arnt some pervert in the woods that had an opportunity its someone the victim knows that specifically targets them. Im not trying to say women don't face issues in america. But I also think it's insane to say men a privileged when they face just as many and just a severe issues as women.
[–]xXCzechoslovakiaXx 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Imma take a deep breath and say “yes, that’s what I’ve been trying to say this entire time.”
Glad we can agree though, I was just trying to prove that women do have disadvantages because in your original I read it as you saying men aren’t privileged in anything. Both sides have dozens of privileges over the others but we can’t declare one a “winner”
(When I say privileged I’m saying it in individual aspects not as a whole. Ex: women are privileged in the justice system.)
Anyways, I’m glad we agree that both sexes have heaps of problems and that weighing one over the other is basically impossible. I argued like a child earlier so I’m sorry about that
[–]Hailhydra775 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I really don't like the term privileged. We're all getting fucked over and saying one group is privileged like they're getting special treatment really grinds my gears.
[–]xXCzechoslovakiaXx2 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Yeah I should probably find a better way to describe the individual problems since people always throw the word “privileged” around when talking about genders as a whole and it messes up the point I was trying to make. Anyways have a nice day dude!
[–]Hailhydra7752 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
You aswell. Sorry if I was rude, this is a subject I get pretty heated over.
I feel the exact same. I don’t know if you saw it in my earlier comment since I added it right after posting it but I argued like a child and I’m pretty ashamed of it. I also get heated over this stuff but this whole thing is mainly my fault for not making myself clear enough of what I thought from the start. So don’t beat yourself up about it too much
Well I came into it pretty heated. The oppression Olympics statement left a bad taste in my mouth so I was looking for more of a fight then a debate. I understand the idea of the oppression Olympics and I definitely understand the annoyance of people sitting around arguing about who's more oppressed. But when its used in a way to try and shut down a group that's genuinely just trying to spread awareness for the issues they face it can be pretty disheartening. I fell into the trap of trying to argue that women's issues don't matter because men's issues are more severe and that's just objectively wrong. Anyway I hope you have a wonderful night.
[–]ChillFlorist 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
OOOOOOP beg to differ on wage gap "Women in the controlled group make $0.98 for every $1.00 a man makes,..." Although it is true there is a wage gap with women being payed slightly less, it is nowhere near the "78 cents on the dollar" that is pushed so religiously.
I will not argue with the fact that women have to be more cautious of sexual assualt bcz that is true and serious.
In certain positions like caregiving, women are more likely to be hired than men for no reason.
Who cares about religion? People following religions with those values are not sexist unless they choose to follow the sexist values of a religion. Not to mention not everyone follows the same religion.
Men who share their feelings or come out a a homosexual or trans or anything LGBTQA+ often have their masculinity called into question. Same if they express their feelings, dress a certain way, opt out of certain activities, etc.
Overall, being any gender is shit. Everyone has problems that need to be fixed, both women and men. Having a battle of which gender "has it the worst" is a waste of life energy. The best thing to do is accept that one gender is not superior or is worse to be, but promote solving problems like women being raped and more men commiting suicide.
[–]xXCzechoslovakiaXx -3 points-2 points-1 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s what I was trying to say! (That last part)
Both sexes are screwed over in some way or the other. I wasn’t trying to say that women had less rights than men just refuting that guys claim that there wasn’t a single case of male privilege.
Also yeah that wage gap study is rather flawed should I put an edit saying it’s ass or should I remove it? You’re the only one that’s not playing into oppression olympics

[–]AnOpinionatedGamer 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I just don't trust 22, and I'd be worried about overpenetration with 5.7.
[–]Hailhydra775 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't have the punching power but I'm way more accurate with 22 and am confident I can put my whole clip on target in a stressful situation with 22. I know 5.7 is supposed to have insane penetration but every gelatin test I've seen it seems to penetrate just as much as a 45 or 9mm I think its penetration is only really a factory when you have a hard target. So you'll have better results shooting something behind cover then you would with 9mm or 45 but you'll also have to worry about stray bullets more.

OK here you go
I'm not saying I support everything on this list. But I think the Oppression Olympics is a pathetic and self-destructive endeavor. Every group and every individual face unique challenges. Strive to help people of whatever group overcome the structural and social problems they face. Saying group A is hurt by B so we should do C basically never conflicts with other group X is hurt by Y so we should do Z.
TLDR: Don't be a prick, everybody has obstacles and unless you take the time to empathize and learn you have no idea what someone else is dealing with

I read through 10 opinions with no substance and scrolled to the bottom. The source is rad fems you literally linked the most biased source you could find with nothing but opinion pieces. Men and women both have their own struggles but its completely insane to say men are privlaged.
[–]JRM34 -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It wasn't worth more than the 10 second google and grabbing the second link. Of course it's a biased source, the literal point is presenting subjective experiences of a subgroup of the population.
Let's put it this way: Until early 1900's women were afforded virtually no autonomy or power of self-representation (they couldn't even own property until 1848 and couldn't vote until 1920). Do you concede that under the preceding circumstances men were "privlaged" over women?
Assuming the answer is Yes, when in the past 100 years did we achieve perfect 100% equality where men have no benefits over women?
You seem to have disregarded the point of my TLDR: don't be a dick and try to have empathy
[–]Hailhydra775 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Congratulations if you look back over 100 years you can find 1 example of discrimination. 👏👏👏
[–]JRM34 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
LOL. Congratulations, you managed to miss the point more than I thought possible.
The right to vote is the most fundamental right, literally the basis on which we fought a war of independence to achieve. Lack of voting rights is not "1 example of discrimination." It is a deprivation of self-determination. It is the root of numerous discriminatory laws against women that were only possible because they had no say in the matter.
You also dodged the question with remarkable ineptitude. Men had every possible privilege until 100 ago because they were 100% in control of literally every aspect of government. If you think that privilege no longer exists, when did that equality finally take place?
[–]Hailhydra775 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'm not a historian I dont care to pinpoint the exact year/bill/right that Gave women equality. But if you think they're still systematically discriminated against you are just willfully ignorant.
[–]JRM34 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
"I don't understand the subject and am unwilling to educate myself to find factual support for my opinion. Despite that, I will maintain my opinion about something I have no experience or expertise in despite overwhelming evidence I am wrong."
FTFY
It all comes back to someone else saying "I have experienced negative cultural thing X" and you whining back "Nuh-uuuh! You can't have been discriminated against because I've had a tough time too! :'-( "
Unless you take the opportunity to educate yourself with an open mind (e.g. not from right-wing sources) then you will be unable to understand the discussion.
[–]Hailhydra775 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So you're seriously still trying to argue men are privlaged and women are discriminated against? Have you taken the time to do any research on the subject. Do you enderstand all the issues both men and women face and can put those issues on a scale that shows men are "favored" I could sit here and argue with you but you're honestly not worth my time. Maybe educate yourself on issues beyond your own before coming on here with biased sources then screeching to me about biased forums.
[–]JRM341 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
"Privileged"
The irony is that you say I need to educate myself but don't understand that it's not a scale where you weight issues on each side. That was literally my first post, you still don't understand what male privilege is even referring to. It's not a comparison, it's acknowledging the unique difficulties that exist for both groups
[–]lordofthehamstrings[S] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I agree that we should fight to fight both sexes' problems, but the point of the post isn't to say that one side has more rights than the other, but rather to say that gender equality currently does not exist, and that it is not just women who experience problems because of their gender.
[–]xXCzechoslovakiaXx 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah I wasn’t as clear about that as I wanted to be. I think it’s very important to point out the issues both sides face. Many of women’s problems are well known but men’s issues such as mental health are only beginning to get light shed on them.
