That's one of the scary parts about people who get hooked on hard stuff. Cannabis is one thing. People can live without it. I used to serve on an health advisory committee for local and state government, and we always were told that the number one common denominator with violent crimes (homicide, armed robbery, etc) were related to drugs, whether that be someone not getting paid or someone stealing and selling stolen objects for drug money. A few counties over, they were having a huge problem wi…

I am in the Midwest US. To my knowledge, my high school actually expanded their trades classes recently. You can even purchase customized cutting boards from one of the woods classes, and really cool backyard fire rings from one of the metals classes. I'm really proud of what they are doing with that department. There are a lot of poor families in that area, and unfortunately drugs like heroin and meth in rural America are becoming all too common. Its really cool to see teenagers what to learn s…

the attidude of "High school didn't teach me how to be an adult, I never learned to do my taxes! waahhhh" I hate it when people say this. Because if they actually paid attention and didn't take underwater basket weaving class, they could have actually taken a practical class for easy elective credits! Some of my favorite classes in high school (Class of 2010) were Personal Finance, Healthy Living, and Intermediate Cooking. Not only were they practical, the teachers made it fun and non intimidati…

Great article! When you take care of yourself and your affairs is a great point of self respect. As a girl in her mid 20s who has an investment plan set up, is comfortable with managing a household, and takes responsibility for her actions, I'm borderline disgusted with 90% of people my age, and (pardon my French) how they can't keep their shit together. When did this become OK? Was there a pivotal moment where there was a big generational shift to this attitude? Is it becoming more prevalent wi…

Really not a fan of all the 90s fashions (we gave up on then for a reason!) being a trend. Chokers, color palates that are so boring, and tom boy dressing. On the same note, dressing like Kim K or whoever, wearing skin tight crop tops/pencil skirts has got to go. Matte lipstick looks so gross, especially in shades that are trendy right now. People (mainly younger people) need to stop referring to them selves as militant-"insert opinion here". All day I hear: I'm a militant atheist, I'm a militan…

Fantastic topic! Never sit/sleep/lounge on your bed while wearing the same clothes you were wearing while outside the house. Other that the occasional "lol" text speak should be reserved for children under the age of 12. If you write n in place of and/u for you/r for are, I'm assuming that you are probably an idiot. Those plastic flip flops should only be reserved for the beach and kids. Joggers and cute athleticware is OK for picking up a gallon of milk, going to the gym, post yoga smoothie wit…

Actually considering doing this but am a bit terrified of the guy. My SO and I looked him up on our state's circuit court system and he spent time in prison for a violence related charge back in the 90s. We are still trying to figure out how to deal with getting my final paycheck which was supposed to be given to me before Christmas... I wish I could say I'm not scared at all, but throughly freaked out enough that I was afraid of being alone in the office with the man.

Happy New Years ladies!! So I'm back applying for jobs again since I quit my job due to an escalating sexual harassment situation (will link to that post once I'm off of mobile and will probably do a follow up field report). One of my girlfriends works as a recruiter who specializes in my field, so I have two interviews this week! That being said, it's been - 15F here and doesn't look like it's going to be letting up anytime soon. I'm having a hard time putting together a really warm, feminine, …

Probably not. Initially, I would be quite upset because our relationship is built on love and solid communication. I would be sad that something was preventing him from calling me out on it from the start, even if it was my own fault. Not sure how RPW this is, but we are very frank and honest with each other and keep each other accountable. By not letting things build up inside, it's much easier to communicate feelings, look to each other for understanding and compassion rather than defensivenes…

Now you straight people carry your own reusable bags back to your Prius after comparing artisanal brands of sriracha mayonnaise. Laughed so hard at that line. Ironically, the girl who taught me how to do my makeup and hair just happens to be married to a woman now! Still to this day, she's one of my best gal pals to go shopping with. She works in the fine arts now and always finds the most beautiful things. As far as dressing like a hipster, a lady needs to do what a lady needs to do. Its much b…

One of my resolutions is to work on communication. I think being gracious for patience/understanding/etc is a very important part of an apology and helps us have a moment of reflection on the event that has passed. Too many times people often say "I'm sorry" without really thinking about it what happened. As /u/PhantomDream09 mentioned a previous post from /u/tintedlipbalm, I think this a really great concept to consider in the new year. For those of you who have worked on this, any advice for p…

Nat Geo Explorer had a very interesting clip this week about dating schools in Russia. Men are going to "manly" classes and women are going to lessons to learn to be more feminine. Thank you so much for sharing u/tryanotherjuan 's comment. Her word of caution section was particularly insightful! You're right, this is a failure on my part and I should have said something right away to establish boundaries. He apologized, and said it wouldn't happen again, but I'm ready to walk away from the position if it does.

I haven't told my SO yet about this, but we share quite a bit about our work. I don't think I'm going to be telling him about this instance, but if it happens again I will most likely be quitting my job. The work wife thing has been squashed. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a chance to fix their behavior. Maybe they were just a little too friendly, and if this was the case I'm assuming they'd stop. However, if they don't fix it, then I'm thinking this is on the other end of the spectrum, and I'm out.

Music is a great idea! And also a way to make memories with your kids! When I was little, my mom, sister, and I would always listen to songs from Disney movies (peak 90s Disney) while cleaning. Not only do I look back at this time with happiness, but am grateful that I was taught cleaning can be fun and shouldn't be seen as a burden! Excellent article. What the movement will never admit to is the biggest problem that women face everyday doesn't come from men or the patriarchy, it comes from women on women bullying. I think about all the red carpet fashion talk shows where women will critique and criticize everyone who walks by in a dress, but oh my god, if it was a panel of men doing that? Cue the pitchforks.

I thinly slice them, put them in the glass first, then pour really cold water on top. The first few sips have a faint taste, but as long as you don't drink it quickly, it will have a really refreshing cucumber flavor.

Good: I have been absolutely killing it at the gym and on the home front. Stuck to my cleaning schedule, and have been having a lot of fun getting everything ready for my SO to come home this week. Bad: All the excitement is also making me nervous, like being at the top of a roller coaster so I've been a bit of a space cadet. Drinking too much caffeine has not been helping. Not pretty (ugly): the hydrangea in the front of the house succumbed to some sort of plant virus. I'm sending samples in to…

Anyone else a little bit sad that we are at the point in society where articles like this are needed? Is it because of the need to overshare everything on social media? Disintegration of the family and people no longer passing down cultural traditions such as etiquette? I'd be really interested to hear people's experiences on how etiquette was taught (or perhaps not taught) to them.

The ability to plan and host a gathering in your home. Whether its just friends coming over for dinner, a birthday party, or a cook out for one of the many summer holidays, being a good hostess and making people feel welcome in your home is an essential. Yes, there is a heavy cooking aspect to this, but being a great conversationalist and preventing a gathering from getting boring seems to be more and more uncommon among young people.

He was 20 and my first relationship which made it all the worse. As for her, I was able to get her to be forced into moving to another dorm after the first incident, thankfully. A mutual friend said that a) she was bragging about being to hunt him down and seduce him, b) slept with 36 different guys that semester, and c) ending up catching the clap. Looks like someone has daddy issues or something.

Guy was begging me to get back in a relationship after no contact for 3 weeks, said he made the biggest mistake of his life, etc. and I was a naive 19 year old. It was a living hell. Not a good idea. When you break up he should be out of your life, and not a person you want to have an intimate conversation about relationships. Tried it once, and ended up re-kindling things...after he had slept with my roommate. Complete disaster. Another 6 months wasted. Why not get a relationship mentor like a family member? As someone with particular "interests", I think you're being a bit too pessimistic about not being able to find someone. One of the beauties of a fulfilling long term relationship is being able to explore each other's "interests" as well as discover things together. Currently growing out my hair! I've just passed my shoulders and would like another 4 or 5 inches. The only problem is, I love going to the salon to get my haircut and be pampered. Trying so hard to be patient!

Start wearing sunscreen on your face everyday if you don't already. I've found that products with Vitamin C help a bit, as do hydrogel eye patches. If you're looking for something a bit simpler, make sure to keep the area well moisturized. Do you have days where the bags are worse then others? You could try identifying a trigger of sorts. I found that mine got much worse if I wasn't drinking enough water during the day/eating too much junk.

I'm a huge fan of Lipstick Queen Saint-Shear lipstick. It's 10% pigment but builds really well, so you can decide how much of a pop you want. My boyfriend loves it as well because its very kissable and doesn't smear off too horribly.

Gothamista is fantastic! She has a wonderful channel, and I find her voice really nice to listen to. Plus, her videos are perfect length to use as a timer of sorts. I usually watch her while giving myself a face massage or waiting for my actives to soak in when I do my evening skin care routine.

You've got so many red flags you could throw yourself a rally for Mao Zedong. Get out of there. If you live with him and you're worried about his tmeper/fact that his mom called him abusive, absolutely make sure you have a solid plan when you tell him you're leaving him/moving out.

That all sounds so good! Especially the curry! I'm definitely going to try that out this week! Do you have a good recipe? Or can I easily Google one?

First of all: sending hugs and positive thoughts your way. Its really hard when he leaves, but there are things you can do to help yourself get over this obstacle. Echoing many of the posters here: The best thing you can possibly do is to keep busy. My boyfriend and I used to live about 150 miles away and would only be able to see each other on the weekends. I've found that the first few hours are always the worst and then once I sank into my Sunday evening routine everything is much better. Whe…

Summer heat is setting in, and I don't believe in using a/c, so I've been cutting back on using the stove too much/baking. However, my garden is starting to produce so many cherry tomatoes I can hardly keep up! I've been making simple tomato salads by halving the cherry tomatoes and sprinkling them with a little salt, then letting them sit for about 20 minutes. I add a little bit of chopped garlic, fresh chopped basil, and a drizzle of olive oil. Really great on its own, or on a toasted baguette…

Thank you! I am finding that keeping my favorite snack veggies around (baby carrots, celery sticks, bell peppers and cucumbers) and just adding them as a nice crunchy side to a meal is helping out a lot. But I'm really enjoying trying new veggie recipes too!

Get in at least 30 minutes of quality physical activity each day and have at least two servings of veggies with lunch and dinner.

Not quite a military wife, but my boyfriend is a Navy Vet and now contractor in Iraq. We are 4 months into a 12 month contract. Thank you so much for your advice. I'm a long time lurker here, and this post is EXACTLY what I needed to read. Thank you!
