The main factor for me is how do men find themselves in conflict? Society imposes the male dominance hierarchy because it has required men to work or fight tirelessly for centuries. Young men involved in crime are simply another aspect of men being valued according to the work they do and so often choosing dangerous jobs because they pay the most - this applies in the 'informal economy' the same as elsewhere.

I read a really jaw dropping article a few years back on-line, which I now can't find, about some ultra-homophobic strands of feminist thought in the 70's that have now been airbrushed out of history. It's not just boys. Men who cry or show weakness are also shamed or mocked. The answer would be to operate according to what are supposed to be core progressive principles: treat everyone equally. If you wouldn't mock a woman for a particular behaviour, don't do it to a man either. And don't treat men in ways that demand that they been stoical and emotionless and then in the same breath bemoan 'toxic masculinity'.

In practice centreist neo-liberalism and SJWism are often in lockstep. SJWism is predominantly preoccupied with its notions of oppression centred around identity, but largely or entirely ignores class or wealth. This suits neo-liberals who also want to ignore wealth disparity and the influence of money.
