Males always protected and provided for their own mates and offspring. Pre-agriculture males knew their offspring were theirs simply because they were the baddest motherfuckers on the block. Food was likely distributed among the hunters making contributions to the kill. It took a lot of physically fit hunters to participate in early man's endurance style of predation.

It's not up to him to soothe coddle this woman. Any interaction between him and this broad has to come from his frame and lead to direct benefit to him. Otherwise he's just an orbiter. He doesn't owe her emotional support. Not to mention the guy says this chick digs drama. If it were me I would question the legitimacy of her story from the start.
