"In the bin" is the correct answer to this particular specimen.

Ah, a sunk cost fallacy problem. Good news is that your sister already knows this isn't good enough for her, she's not happy. Bad news is that the amount of unrecoverable time and money she's already spent makes breaking up seem like an insurmountable loss. It's human nature to want to "get your money's worth" when you've spent on something, but there comes a time when we have to stop investing in things that don't work out. The trick to avoiding the sunk cost fallacy is to take a step back and …

Can this entire thread just go in the handbook? Like, permalinked so I can send people this whenever the 50/50 argument comes up?

Guh, I hate that so much. Take all of the less-than-savoury aspects out of the whole thing and it's still customer service. No one has EVER said that working customer service is empowering. :S

Even if you want 50/50 down the line, what most people think of as 50/50 usually isn't that. I've seen (and experienced a few): 50/50, but she pays for her birth control/pap smears/pregnancy tests with her own money 50/50, but she buys all the cleaning supplies with her own money because he thinks they "excessive" 50/50, but she buys everything for their kids and pets 50/50, but she does 80% of the housework because he "just doesn't see it" and she "should've asked" 50/50, but somehow all of his…

How did you get your man to spoil you? I didn't. If you pick a guy who doesn't want to make you feel special from the get-go, he's not likely to improve with time/hints/nagging/pleading/anything else. Don't try to change other people, change your expectations and pick a guy who meets them before you commit. Learn to say no. Stop wasting your youth on the bare minimum and spend that energy on yourself. Incidentally, they were right about the part where you don't need a man. Spoil yourself. You ar…

I had an ex who did the opposite, I'm a fast walker and he complained about my "unfeminine" pace. Not because he had trouble keeping up mind you, the guy was a good foot taller than me.

It's true that male condoms have a higher pearl index than hormonal birth controls. It's also true that condoms are the only contraceptive that give some protection from STDs, which is one reason FDS encourages them regardless. Planned parenthood actually has a surprisingly good contraceptive comparison tool if you're in the US, I encourage you to take a look to start with. (They list several non-hormonal contraceptives beyond IUDs and condoms, who knew?)

Oh sweet Jesus. I would buy her a professional personal finance session, just for herself. Not as a criticism of her relationship, just a wonderful gift to her for graduating and making her own money that she should now learn to manage. Managing money is a life skill. It depends where you live, honestly. Here, being married doesn't affect things like tax brackets or credit scores, but it does mean you join your assets and it affects inheritance. As far as I'm concerned, it's a legal arrangement that simply covers a few things that our common-law marriage laws do not. If I want to buy a house or have children with someone, I'd get married for the ease of it.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Hon, it's not your fault he's a creep. And from the looks of it, you DID say no quite a few times. You shouldn't have to shout from the rooftops over and over again to make someone behave like a functioning adult. He does know better, he just doesn't care. He won't care if you tell him off either, the sad truth is that he's broken. He doesn't think of you as a person, he thinks of you as a game and your refusal as an obstacle to get around. It's pitiful, really…

I would never make my weekends "always available" to a guy. Of course I don't think you meant it as a hard and fast rule, but... If I'm spending the weekend with my boyfriend I'm purposely moving other things around and he does need to respect my schedule and ask ahead of time.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy10/09/20 08:31 AM

OH MY GOD. He wanted a break, you asked if you could see other people, he said yes. Now that you followed through he's pissy about it. You already know you're not in the wrong and that he already broke up with you. Let him have his hissy fit without you. Go read the handbook.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy10/09/20 08:14 AM

WYM mixed signals? There aren't any mixed signals at all, he just straight up told you he doesn't want to be in a relationship with you. This means that YOU, sis, are single and free as a bird. Don't waste your energy trying to figure out a way to snatch this guy up or soothe his feelings. Date other guys.

Personally, I'd leave the blanket and change my locks. To each their own. Block him everywhere but whatever you're using to break up with him before you start. Don't give him a chance to put in some weak-ass effort for two weeks before turning into a jerk again. When you break up with him, don't make it a negotiation. "This isn't working for me, I'm leaving". Don't offer explanations, don't get upset. When he inevitably offers to change, remind yourself over and over again that he's had every op…

I have a master's. I don't think a degree is a requirement for me, but intellectual curiosity is a must. I've met guys who went to trade school and are super intelligent, excited about new knowledge and work on learning new things every day. I've also met guys who have a degree and have done absolutely nothing but play video games or go fishing in their spare time since getting it. Dull AF. I'm so confused by these screenshots 😭 Why can't people just agree to not be assholes and go about their lives? You're right though. It takes three shades just to think "rape is bad", "false rape accusations are bad" and "false rape accusations make up a tiny percentage so chill with the pitchforks until we sort this out". It's just too much for some people... And some really like their pitchforks.

What do you think would happen if you reached out to a few of these friends? Just for a chat? I know I've lost touch with friends while our lives were happening, but we eventually find each other again when someone reaches out. Food for thought. Regardless, you're better off. Once you've vetted, do whatever feels good to you. Keep your standards, keep everything you love about your life, but also realize that this is a person you trusted enough to get into a relationship with. Absolutely have dates without sex if you want to, he's in love with you, not your pussy. Don't worry about putting him off by being yourself. You're enough. If he's the right guy you really just have to be you.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/08/20 06:47 AM

Plan ahead, call one or several loved ones to be nearby. He's counting on you to be alone and powerless. Pack his shit ahead of time too if you can. Then block him everywhere immediately and bar your door. Plan this ahead of time too, you never know if he's got an extra copy of your keys. If you can't call a friend or two, call the police. It IS a piece of paper. With important, life-altering stuff on it. Honestly, I prefer it when they ask something like this straight out instead of claiming to want marriage without realizing what it entails. It takes so much longer to ask the followup questions before saying goodbye.

No one needs to change, and change is always hard. That's just life. The point is that changing for external validation isn't sustainable or healthy. Get better for you, you deserve it.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy20/08/20 04:55 PM
40

Maybe it’s my attitude, but then again, I know people who are worse than me who still get dates so..... This right here bugs me, let's see if I can figure out why. Rambling ahead. Here's the thing. You shouldn't be trying to "fix yourself" in order to be acceptable to another person, to get dates, whatever. That's just an act, it depends on external validation and it's not something you can keep up for the rest of your life. You should be trying to improve because you deserve better for yourself…

Men vad i helv... A guy who actually loves YOU, and not just the things you do for him, will never take you for granted. A guy who is serious about you pays attention and doesn't plan to move you into a place where his mom is on the lease. Move out, learn drums or whatever you want by your own damn self and stop dating potential. There are plenty of better options, get in line for student housing already. Edit: ok, I realize I sound harsh. I'm sorry. You're not stupid, and I don't think the rela…

He says he is kind of a “father figure” to this girl (yeah I know, I just vomited in my mouth too), they are just friends, and she stood firmly there for him, when he was heartbroken because of me. Way to go turning the situation right back onto your girlfriend, dude! Seriously, the sheer audacity it takes for him to blame you for this. Hon, it's been two months and you're already feeling crap. I think you know.

The reason the handbook advises abstaining before commitment (which isn't necessarily the same as engagement or marriage) is to protect women from becoming emotionally engaged with, pregnant by or getting diseases from guys who aren't trustworthy. Why would you commit to a man you don't trust in the first place? Oh, and no one deserves sex with anyone, man or woman. Ever.

Write a list and check it twice. It sounds like you might need to get out the big notebook to list all of his flaws. It's OK if reading it makes you a little nauseous. Then, list all of the things you do want. There was a post a couple of days ago on writing your standards down with a lot of good advice, but the bit that stuck out to me was that it should be a list of positive traits only. Instead of "not a cheater", write "thoughtful, honest and loyal". Your ex doesn't meet those standards, and…

This is what happens when you feel the need to demand more. It means that he's not it, he's not that into you and the demand sets you up for rejection. It's natural to be hurt by that. If it's that sly, condescending grin where they're smiling to themselves because they think they're smarter than I am, it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. I'll ask someone else next time.

Depends. If you're dating a guy who pretty much never posts anything personal, it's fine as long as his profile doesn't say "single". I never post pictures either, and frankly I'm uncomfortable having a bunch of private pics online. Pictures with everyone but you, though? Nah. You should never feel like a secret. He should want you to meet his friends and family, he should want to show you off. He should be making an effort to show that you are a part of his life that he's proud of.

Get his brother (or anyone else) to physically pick him up. Start packing his stuff. Stop feeling sorry for him, stop trying to convince him. He's already shown you he's not going to go willingly. I just deflect and say "oh fine, nothing new. Hey, what do you think about X?" or something to that effect. If they don't take the hint and match my energy, they're just not my type of people. But I'm the type of person who will talk if I did something cool, and my loved ones know this. The only one who gets running updates on my day-to-day is mom.

Questions like "How was your day" are kind of boring to me too. It's nice that they're thinking of you, but it just doesn't add value to a conversation, you know? If it's thursday and I've done the same thing all week, the answer is going to be the same as the last three times they asked. I value interesting conversations where I might learn something new about the person I'm talking to, or about anything else really. As a result, my conversations tend to start with something like "look at this …

AND saying no to drinks weeds out (some of) the guys who will push your boundaries. If the answer is anything less than an immediate "OK", there will be no second date. I'm pretty sure I got that piece of advice from a lady on reddit, can't remember, but it works.

Honestly, this is my biggest fear. Dating a guy who seems nice, getting into a relationship, moving in together, getting married, having kids and slowly watching him become my oldest, least successful, child. edit: come to think of it, it's probably my most valuable fear too.

On the other hand my dad taught me to play the piano, train dogs and trade stocks. They're not obsolete (though obviously LVM are never in style), they're just not mandatory.

I... Have done all of those things. And poured concrete. And put up drywall. And cleared snow with a tractor. My mom taught me. You know they make jar openers btw?

Blocking is clear enough. Besides, if all guys displayed their red flags this readily they'd be much easier to dodge. Don't train him.

The fact that you're uncomfortable is reason enough. Trust your gut, if you've got your hackles up even thinking about this you should honor that feeling.

What does "believe in marriage" entail? I've never placed any value on marriage except as a legal state. You know, automatic joint ownership of property, kids, inheritance, etc (joint taxes too, in some countries?). I totally believe in those things and if I want to do kids or a house with someone I'm gonna be married to them, but I place zero romantic value on it. I'm unsure how to answer.

Filter out the low-effort ones. "Hey", "What you doing?", anything that doesn't engage with you as a person. Those go right away, not worth it. Start looking at profiles, anything that's a no-no for you? You're not compatible, a polite goodbye is best for everyone involved. That should leave... What, 10%? I don't know what apps you're using, but unmatching or deleting convos as you go is key. Start feeling out the people you have left. Any convo gone more than a day without a reply? Out. Anyone …

I haven't found a way to make people change, I just lose interest and start responding less. It's not something I think about. Some people just get caught up in the attention and will engage when they realize what they're doing, some people will drop off the face of the earth when you stop doing the work. Let them.

I mean... You've posted about this guy a bunch of times and got told to dump his ass. At this point it's just frivolous. You don't need his permission to break up. You've already broken up with the guy, I'm all for ghosting and blocking him everywhere. Just... Stay safe, ok?

I work at a god-damned smelter, and I'm an engineer NOW (meaning I have three sets of safety equipment rather than one), but I've had a few of those "dangerous" jobs. Guess what? Most of the dangers of those jobs and my current one are people not following safety procedures. I've seen guys break ribs because they were too lazy to take the long route, I've seen acids burns on guys who didn't bother to wear overalls, I've seen a guy's actual chest hair catch on fire because he couldn't be bothered…

My mother calls her marriage a social experiment, because my parents were raised in very different settings (my mom's family is working class). The thing is, though, they have a very similar work ethic. My dad would never take money from his parents for rent, he pays for himself. He wouldn't DREAM of making fun of where my mom comes from either. He has the utmost respect for his in-laws. This guy lacks empathy, and class.

The first thing you need to do is reach out. You've already done that, good on you for admitting that you matter. That your daughters matter. He's a shitty human and that's embarrassing for him. You are worthy of respect. Your children are worthy of a strong, caring mother who makes her health and happiness a priority. You're not weak, you're finally strong enough to get the hell out. The second thing is to assess your resources. Keep track of money, loved ones, IDs, anything that'll help you le…

For real though, my parents. Swedish parental leave is pretty long and pays a percentage of your salary. Women also tend(ed, this was a while ago...) to work part time and in lower-paying jobs to a greater extent. As a result, most women in my mom's age bracket have considerably lower pensions than men the same age. When my mom took most of the leave, my dad stepped up and put the amount she lost into her pension plan. When they decided she would work part time while my brother and I were little…
