Same on the swearing.. But that's because we have a toddler who repeats everything! 😂

How do you know he doesn't already have a girlfriend? To give him your number would be too bold, and too overt. I really like /u/pinkdrawings suggestion of just saying "let me know if you wanna get together sometime".

Thank you! It's been a long, exciting, wonderful journey but I'm certainly glad the chaos is finally over and I can take a more active role in the home.

Thankfully, I very very rarely get truly sick. Must be that hardy Irish immune system or something, because it generally happens about once every two years or so, and it's gone within 24-36 hours.. But when it hits, it hits HARD. So I don't even bother with looking cute. I usually can barely stand or even lift my head when I get sick, much less try to make myself presentable. My husband is a very good man, and truly a wonderful husband, because he's on top about taking care of our little one, an…

Ahhh another doterra girl. 😍 I use the oils in my practice. I don't sell, but I love using them for my family and in my midwifery practice.

I do this too!! And I like to put a nice big basil leaf on top with a generous sprinkle of Parmesan. He probably doesn't even notice, but I feel such a sense of pride when I give him a plate of "pretty" food.

You have no idea how much we midwives love and appreciate comments like this. Women like you are the reason why we do what we do. Thank you so very much! ❤️

I'll probably take a more active role when my son is much older. As it stands currently, I'm able to spend much much more time with my family. I'm not attending client births anymore, and will only be doing so in an emergency capacity (like if the on-call midwife is sick, and there isn't anyone else to back her up, which is actually a lot more rare than you'd think it is) I'm still going to be working with pregnant mothers, but just doing prenatals a few hours a day for a couple of days per week…

Ugh, I just suck it up and get to it. Usually, I reward myself afterward with a few episodes of House of Cards or something to that effect so that I have something to look forward to.

I've never heard of this, but we're big fans of Janet Lansbury's elevating childcare blog. She writes tips for respectful and peaceful parenting, and it's been tremendous for us.

Also, I'm unclear as to how this is hardcore or extreme parenting. There are lots of "crunchy" or "granola" families that do this as well. I don't see anyone passing judgment on them. Our son's pediatrician (and dentist) are delighted that our son's idea of a sweet treat is yogurt raisins and a "soda" is homemade mango kombucha. Yes, there are the occasional cheat nights where we feed him pizza, but those are so few and far between. Probably once every three months.

Omg, I've never even thought of using duck bones! How was it? I like to use beef bones in wintertime and it is perfection. What recipe do you like to use? I typically use the one from Wellness Mama, and after roasting the bones in the oven, I put them in the crock pot. For some reason, it tends to smell way worse when I do it on the stove top.

Um. I'm not sure why you're getting so much hate. We don't allow sugar, only allow one hour of screen time per day, snack time is steamed veggies, fresh fruit, and some sort of dairy, like cottage cheese or yogurt. Occasionally, we take him out for frozen yogurt as a treat. Lots and lots of families do this. This is normal and it works for our family.

I often recommend Ina May's Guide to Childbirth to new moms, but that's more for the childbirth aspect (obviously). For breastfeeding, if you plan to do so, The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers by Dr. Jack Newman is a wonderful, comprehensive guide full of resources. And the ultimate guide for child development is The Wonder Weeks. We would not have survived without it. You can flip to how many weeks old your child is, and it will tell you exactly what stage of development they are at. Bes…

Yes! Then you can make soup or chicken salad with the leftovers! We're pretty holistic minded over here, so we actually save the bones for bone broth to keep immune system up!

That's definitely the toughest part, being away from your babies. Solidarity, mama. <3 think about it about this way - when you are more established, you will be able to take date nights with hubby, and only say no to your children because you're worried about spoiling them, not because you can't afford it.

Exactly! I feel like the poster was referring to the 'doormat' type of man who would be easily intimidated by women.

I LOVE THIS! Thank you so much! It's so funny the little things we 'forget' are often some of the most important. Especially the pre-baking of little treats, setting up the Keurig for him, leaving notes. Comments like this are exactly what I'm looking for. :)

it really wasn't. At the time, I practiced in hospital (I practice out of hospital now), and would go to the office about four days per week for prenatal and postpartum appointments, then on-call (which usually meant spending the night at the hospital because it was guaranteed you would have three births) for labor and delivery. It wasn't even that big of a practice, either. Maybe six of us. Our physician gave us a lot of wiggle room as well. It was pretty great sharing call like that because ou…

He's quite supportive! I'm just trying to minimize those off-days where I just really don't feel like I'm on top of my game.

This comment is perfection and exactly what I needed to hear! My husband is supportive, and I feel like I do pretty well most of the time. There are days where I really just feel like I don't have it together though, and I'm really just trying to find some sort of pattern that I could apply.

Honestly, it's quite manageable if you work with a group! Prior to starting my own practice, I was only on-call about once a week for 24 hours total.

Something that has really helped me is essential oils. After I had our child, I suffered from postpartum anxiety disorder and would occasionally have bouts of 'rage' that were very much hormone related. Essential oils and yoga helped me balance out tremendously. You can try lavender and clary sage on your wrists to help balance your hormones and mood. I use the Now brand and Mountain Rose Herbs. I know that you were asking about literature, but I thought that maybe this might help address some o…

What a clever idea, having him drive you to work! My husband and I work nearby to one another but it never crossed my mind for us to have that bonding time. Thank you!! I'm going to talk to him about this. :)

I am. I'm a nurse-midwife with my own thriving practice and he works in IT. We make it work because we love and respect one another. Our money is just that. Our money. We both work very hard for our combined income and don't give too much thought to who is making more than who.
