I am originally from a mid sized city in Indiana. If you don't have a car and live close to where you work you could live off $1,000 a month. It's not ideal and you might have to wipe your ass with water and eat ramen noodles in order "to save" money but it is possible. Though at that point you'd be better off to just join the air force.
