Oh for the love of... Pride and Prejudice isn't even a romance novel. It was published in 1813, long before "romance novels" existed, and it was widely read by everyone. If anything it's part social satire/commentary and part conduct manual. I've said it before on here and I'll say it again: The absolute state of our education system.

I never really understand the people that cry about "invasion of privacy" in these cases or worse, tell the person that they deserve what they discovered for "snooping." If a person is trying to conceal something important about themselves in a romantic relationship because they know it is a problem, they are the ones that are wrong. They are trying to deceive someone else and drag them into their mess. Of course you should find out before that happens, in whatever way you can. I don't think I'v…

No kidding. I always wonder how this comes about. Do they just not mention their age for as long as possible and find girls that assume that they're still in their twenties?

I love this. 😆 I wish my dog was a Pickmeisha since you kind of expect dogs to be Pickmeishas. Mine's kind of a moody, sulky LVW of a dog. 🤣 She just burped on my foot. It's like she has a sixth sense for me making fun of her.

Could there be a post permanently pinned at the top of the main FDS page with resources/links to questions like this that get asked constantly? Like "What makes a HVW?", "Where to meet HVM?", "Is OLD worth it?", "Which OLD apps are the best?" etc.? They seem to get asked every few days. Or maybe mods could just add some big red text to the "new post" page that says "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION BEFORE MAKING A NEW POST TO SEE IF IT HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE." That might help. 😆

What a freak. He seems like one of those weird, squeamish types of guys. If she's told him about the bisexual thing he probably has some hangup about seeing the boxers and thinking of her as the "man" in a relationship with another woman or some other nonsense. I hope she goes through with it and tosses him.

He'll never live this down now. Fox News: "Groom-to-be tells bride she's being unreasonable for wanting 'extravagant' dress, asks internet if he's being a jerk" Indy100: "Woman calls off wedding after finding her fiancé complaining about the cost of her wedding dress online" PopDust: "In Memoriam of the Reddit Man Who Blew Up His Engagement Over a Wish Wedding Dress" That's not even all of them. 🤣🤣

I can't even wrap my head around this one. So he's 43 and she's 23. He lied about it because he knows it's disgusting for him to be wanting to sleep with a woman that could easily be his daughter and that he also treats like a child. He makes minimum wage and kicked in a couple of thousand towards the wedding. She makes a good salary and is paying for the rest, including her dress. The $7k left over is all hers but he's freaking out and throwing a tantrum over a cheap $1000 dress. I should add t…

This is the actual study, by the way: Mismatches in the Marriage Market I have the PDF of it but I don't think I can attach it without having to find someplace to upload it first. Anyway, the NY Post is terrible and seems to have gotten some parts skewed, from what I skimmed in their article. They make it sound as if the authors created some "ideal man" out of thin air, for example, when in reality they examined data and statistics about the men that got married the previous year and used it to …

Reading what she says about the cake is so surreal. The language she uses is just so foreign, talking about how much she didn't like having to handle the cake or be near/smell it and how horrible it was. It's just a grocery store cake. I can't even imagine having such strong emotional issues with food. She definitely can't do this with him acting like that. Even without that albatross around her neck, just reading how she wrote about the cake makes me think that she needs some serious therapy to…

Ah, well yes things were indeed rather different a hundred years ago. 😂 Harry's military service and Afghanistan tours are rather interesting. While he was there it was classified for obvious reasons. When a news agency leaked that he was there he unfortunately had to cut the tour short. He was on the front line and did patrols with everyone else, saw a fair amount of action, and stayed in typical accommodations. It certainly shows a longstanding predilection towards having a more substantial pu…

It's bizarre that men will willfully misconstrue a woman asking if they've met/seen one another before as her lying to him so that she has an excuse to hit on him. That's not how women work. Why would you assume something so stupid? Protip: If it's a tactic you would use yourself, it is definitely not something a woman would do.

This seems to come up once a week or so. As evidenced by all of the great responses, it's not true that short men are reviled here. In fact, every time it's posted they get a lot of love. 😁 It does seem like women who don't mind dating short guys are often insecure about it though, which sometimes comes across in these posts. Do other women shame them for dating shorter guys? That might be an interesting topic/post.

I have a PhD, so it wouldn't be practical to limit to that and I wouldn't want to anyway. A master's is nice but a bachelor's from a good school is great too. I wouldn't date anyone without a college education for several reasons; there is a significant difference in the analytical and critical thinking abilities between people with and without degrees, for one.

Even without the disgusting profile and the terrible picture, the dog alone is enough to nope him. It's one of those weird designer bully things, its ears are chopped off, it has a completely idiotic "tough guy" harness on, and it's morbidly obese. That's a whole lotta no there, chief.

That's blue collar masculine. Harry is masculine in his own sphere. As I recall he plays polo, cricket, and rugby, sails, shoots, and skis. He was also an Apache helicopter pilot with the Army Air Corps and served as a co-pilot gunner on a tour in Afghanistan, as well as participating in ground forces. So pretty manly for his station in life overall.

Another comment she deleted: Thanks for your comment. I did have a serious conversation about it with him the other day and he told me that he promises he will propose soon. When I asked him how soon, he said he can't tell me. I think it has to do with the fact that I knew he was going to propose when we went on a trip together last year, but I had cold feet and asked to postpone our engagement. We got over that bump... or at least I thought we did, but maybe it's still hurtful to him. He told m…

This. Block on everything and move on. Upfront disclosure is mandatory. It doesn't have to be the first date (frankly it should be before that, but I digress) but it should be within the first few. Four months was more than enough time to bring it up. Enough time to make up a bunch of fake boyhood stories but not enough to tell the truth? No thank you.

No worries. I thought it was a fairly common thing but maybe not. Personally I like buying for elderly people behind me, especially if it's a sweet old couple or a little old man with a bowler hat or something like that. 😊

I said that because they are typically older married women that have their children's university stickers on their car, and because I am frequently told by people in public that I look like their daughters, "I suspect" the reason is often that they miss their children. That's odd though. I'd say it's a regional thing but I've had it happen in multiple states.

Frankly I'm not sure what this guy is looking for. I've had plenty of dogs throughout my life and none of them were that good. They're disappointed if you don't do something that they want and the one I have now sulks like a turd if I make "personal jokes" about her. This is hilariously true. I have long blond hair that I used to wear up a lot for convenience. Now I wear it down every day and all I have to do is furrow a brow and look around in public and I have some guy asking if I need help. It wasn't nearly as consistent when I wore my hair up. I also get people buying my coffee for me a lot in the Starbucks drive-thru. Amusingly, when my hair is down it tends to be guys but when it's up it tends to be older women.

I think I'd give him a pass on this one. It can be really hard to explain to anyone, even friends, that you don't drink and why. It can be doubly hard as a man, since drinking is "manly." A man trying to work it into a date? Oh goodness, what a recipe for misunderstanding! If he tells you "I'm sober" you're going to think he's a recovering alcoholic. If he just says "I don't drink" you might think he's some sort of uptight freak. If he jumps in and explains his family's history of alcohol issues…

I think they have some broad rules that allow them to arbitrarily remove any post that they don't like. At least one group has a "no break-up posts" rule that they use to remove any post (usually from a woman) asking whether a certain scenario or being treated like X is something she should tolerate. It's a rather slimy thing to do because there are lots of young women without enough support in their lives to go to for things like this. If all they've seen is dysfunctional relationships, the cha…

Here's the post. It's heartening to see how disgusted people are with him. 33 years old, lives rent-free in a house his mother owns, refuses to heat it adequately because he'd rather buy weed, and works in a restaurant. He doesn't even have proper bedding to keep warm. Now he wants her to pay because she insisted on more heat. The absolute state.

I met a guy on Bumble on October 2019 and was great from the start I had to double-check the calendar for a second. Girl, this IS the start. This is maybe three months. This one was over before it began. In addition to what others have said, you need to slow down. Like, way down. Frankly if someone came to me with that "I want to be on your mind constantly" nonsense after almost three months I would be gone before the words could finish leaving his mouth. That would be like, "pick up and move an…

I did this the other day for a woman that asked a really innocent question about (as I recall) dating on Tinder and was attacked so viciously by incels that she not only deleted the post but had to go through and delete every comment she made as well. Poor thing. I hope she makes it over here at some point even if she's too traumatized to talk about dating on here for the moment.

Three weeks. This man had been a father for three weeks and instead of giving one hint of a damn about his newborn child, he was watching porn videos of his friends and thinking of how he could coerce his postpartum wife into disgusting group sex acts. Just when I think I'm done being shocked and horrified there's always more.

Psychologically speaking, people with narcissistic tendencies and people with narcissistic personality disorder are drawn to those that they feel they can easily take advantage of or control. Oftentimes, that means people that are openly trusting, generous, kind, and that enjoy helping others. In other words, good people. Similarly, people that have been victims of narcissists in the past, particularly in childhood, are often drawn to people with narcissistic traits or simply fall for their tact…

From one of her comments: I truthfully still want to terminate the pregnancy, but I’m scared about possible backlash with my family as well. I hate reading these posts about men that are so worthless that they cannot parent their newborn twins while on paternity leave for that very purpose and other mind-boggling acts of loserdom. And I must say, the constant barrage of "But did you ASK him to? Did you TELL him what to do?" as if this isn't a grown man is incredibly revealing about these male posters. My man, judging by your avatar picture a woman interested in "jumping into marriage" is not going to be a problem for you. This guy really has a short-sleeved white shirt on with a red bowtie and suspenders PLUS a scruffy no-effort beard and a soyboy grin and he thinks a woman vaguely interested in talking to him needs to "calm down" and not want to "jump into marriage." Sheer audacity.

I read an article not too long ago that the Bumble app has a friendship option. I think it said that there were three different modes that you could switch between: dating, friends, and business/networking. If you were a man saying that to a woman? I've only heard men use "meet new people" when they really mean "meet new people to have sex with." And since that is how most guys would use it, that's typically how they'll interpret women using it as well because most of them won't bother to stop and consider whether or not a woman would think like that. Considering his reaction, perhaps he used that phrase for casual sex in the past and thus immediately jumped to conclusions.

Of course! It's much easier to pick up and leave when it's just a girlfriend. Lots of men are content to sit in a "relationship" where they are getting sex or other benefits with a woman that they have no intention of marrying because of some issue. It seems like dealbreakers for men primarily apply to marriage. They'll happily tolerate whatever the dealbreaker is, sleep with her and play house with her, as long as they're not tied down and can bail when they get tired of it or find someone that…

Hmm, good question. I think it really depends upon the individual. Could you perhaps consult with a reproductive specialist to see what they think? There must be some sort of tests they can do to give you an idea of what your best course of action is. Or perhaps freezing eggs? I've read that lots of women in England are doing that in their 30s. You should also look at the women in your family to get an idea of what to expect, focusing on how old they were during their pregnancies, when they expe…

Typically this means they are looking for a partner from a similar background/class as themselves. A family that is intact, or that at least remained intact for the majority of childhood, grew up doing similar things, has similar experiences, etc. People that come from vastly disparate backgrounds are rarely compatible longterm; there are simply too many fundamental differences in values, standards, and manners that tend to grow over time rather than shrink. No kidding. $50 usually doesn't cover the tip when I take a friend or two out. While most of these men are struggling with low incomes, their biggest problem is having zero awareness of social class.
