We have a lot of great discussions here that offer great advice on how to handle men and their errors. I love our take no prisoners mentality.

What I don't often see discussed is how we should handle things when we are the ones who messed up.

I had a NYE date last night that I had to cancel the day of. He had nice reservations and took off of work early to prepare. I bought a new cocktail dress, and we were planning to ring in a very romantic NYE together. He worked hard on the plans. He was extremely hurt when I had to break them.

I had a friend come to me with an emergency. It was so sudden and unexpected. For context, it was a male friend, so I can't even offer the "sisters before misters" defense. I was just STUCK and even pretty frustrated with my friend for choosing me as the one he went to for help. It was his first Christmas/New Year since his mother's passing last December. It created a huge strain on me. I feel awful for wishing I hadn't helped him out because I ruined my dates NYE. My date was was gutted and I don't blame him.

I feel guilty for resenting my friend, guilty for dropping my plans, and if the situation was reversed, I have to admit I wouldn't be open to forgiving a man who dropped plans with me at the last minute to help out a female friend. My friend is like a brother to me and has always been there for me.

It was just an awful situation all the way around, and I handled it so wrong! I could have found a way to help my friend and make my date, I was just overloaded with the last minute issue.

I'd love some advice please. How do I make this right with the man I've been seeing? CAN I make it right? He hasn't ended things with me. I just know he's very hurt.
