This is good advice. Send yourself emails - timestamps. It helps for your own reference too: “am I overreacting? She was nice last Tuesday. Maybe I’m overthinking things.” Etc

So you’re pointing to an elite class, institutions with narrative and economic power, that benefit from setting groups against each other, while remaining insulated themselves. Is that roughly what you mean?

Okay I think I see. You’re saying they’re essentially double dipping. First it’s “I’m a POC. Hey lefties where’s my affirmative action?” and then when the wind changes it becomes “Hey anti-DEI people haven’t us men been treated so unfairly?”

Women’s in-group bias is 4.5 times greater than men’s. The fact that you don’t know this - and I know you don’t know this because anyone that points this out will never get a girlfriend and is swiftly turned into a pariah by feminists and women’s white knight protectors - proves you’re not leveling the playing field. You’re operating on tribal in-group bias for the sisterhood. Men don’t get handouts in life and as a result of persevering despite that adversity men flourish. https://pubmed.ncbi.n…

Historically women didn’t want to own businesses because owning a business and being a bread winner is difficult and risky. Women weren’t being oppressed, they were using men to do the hard work for them. Modern living has made everything easier and safer for women so they’re more willing to take on the risks, albeit with the safety net of being a member of a protected class.

If my allies were violent towards my opposition, and I sat back, watched, and did nothing. I think I would have some responsibility there. I would feel a responsibility to oppose violence even if it’s benefitting me. Because it’s benefitting me. Would you not feel some responsibility?

I appreciate your response and thoughtfulness. I wonder, if someone takes my eye because I’m a man, and I refuse to take theirs, and then someone else takes my other eye. And this continues to happen to men. Won’t it just be one group that has both eyes and the other group of men that has no eyes and the two-eyed group will proceed to further mutilate the no-eyed group? I think the sentiment of not taking an eye hinges on other people recognizing your integrity and restraint. But if they see you…

Where are the original goals of feminism defined? Who defined them? Was it a committee? Or one person? Is there a document you can point to? “Gender roles” as a concept was identified and defined by social scientists. If you asked someone from 1750 what gender roles are they wouldn’t know what you’re talking about. If you asked them how men and women differ in what they do in society they could give you an answer. But there would be immense diversity in the answers you got. Not all men or all wo…

Women’s male ally’s target men for violence if they feel they are insufficiently allied with women. It’s happened before and it’ll happen again. I did just compare the two. So one kind of bigotry and hatred is wrong but other bigotry and hatred is okay? What if all bigotry and hatred is wrong? Not just the kind you personally find objectionable?

Wouldn’t the people who join feminism for the wrong reasons - that you don’t think are true feminists - say you are not a true feminist? Couldn’t the same reasoning be used against you? And who decides what feminism was originally meant to do? It’s a bottom-up movement made up of many people and thinkers over decades. “Challenging gender roles” - who defined what these gender roles are that feminists are challenging? Feminist social scientists? I hear this term traditional masculinity and it sou…

Should men be held accountable as a group? If so wouldn’t the male in-group engage in women are wonderful/men are terrible biases? You already pointed out there’s an asymmetry between men’s in-group (soft, prioritizes/infantilizes women) and women’s in-group (hard, prioritizes/infantilizes women). For the sake of argument, can you steel man the opposing position: women shouldn’t be held accountable as a group

The No True Scotsman fallacy happens when someone redefines a group in order to protect a universal claim from counterexamples. In short: “No Scotsman would do X.” “But this Scotsman did X.” “Well, no true Scotsman would do X.” It’s a way of dismissing exceptions by shifting the definition, rather than addressing the evidence. Isn’t this just the no true Scotsman fallacy (no true feminist)? What, in your view, is gained with feminism? Why is it worth defending? What is gained by collective ident…

This is the dilemma though. I think I should be treated as an individual. I shouldn’t be accountable for whatever Andrew Tate does or says. I have no control over him and, as far as I’m aware, virtually no ideological alignment. Should men be expected to police our own? And if so I think the prevailing voice of the police of men will be white-knight, pro-woman, women are infants that need to be cared for, anti-male. I think that’s a huge vocal portion of conventional men in US society at least. …

If these women said “I hate black people” would you think it’s insecurity to say that that’s despicable? Jews need to get over antisemitism because it’s just hurting their pride? That’s a gross sentiment. “Most women who say … are lesbians or asexual.” You’re not living on planet Earth. Saying this kind of nonsense is enabling and covertly defending hatred of men. It’s socially acceptable for women to openly hate men - explicitly. Like say things like “I hate men.” I’ve known these women. I’ve known too many women that openly express bigoted views towards men. Obviously it’s not all women. But it’s not exactly rare. My point is it is not symmetrical. When integrity is met repeatedly (and fairly reliably) with blatant bigotry and hatred it is hard to see it as having integrity and taking the high road. But maybe that’s still the right answer. Excellent point. Why doesn’t this happen more? There’s a stereotype that gay men all befriend women. Every girl has a gay best friend. Gay guys and women are these eternal kindred spirits or something. And in my anecdotal experience they do often seem to befriend each other and view each other that way. I’m not sure I’m fully grasping what you’re getting at. But I do think an attraction to confidence and the way confidence can sway people is a horrifying bug in human psychology. Confidence is what gives us cults, and empowers narcissists and con (confidence) artists. I guess my perspective is a little different. I see confidence as less logical and more emotional. Good point, a lot of women are attracted to violent bad boys. It’s not just a problem for the women that get abused or murdered by these people. It’s a problem for the rest of us that have to deal with their partners. These women need to be held accountable for the types of personalities they’re attracted to and shamed for it. It’s a real problem and women need to fix it.

Remember these types of experiences when women say “women have no power,” “everyone is against women and actively tries to hold women back,” “no one cares about women,” “everyone blames women for everything.” No acknowledgment of the power and privilege women wield with the same care and forethought of a child. And then they are confused when men don’t want to vote or promote women into positions of power, authority, or responsibility. Bananas.

I have a penis, testicles, and a Y chromosome - that’s it. To me the rest is just window dressing/stereotyping. I like/do some male coded things, I like/do some female coded things. None of that matters to me or changes the fact that I’m a man. I like what I like and I do what I want and it will never change my genitalia or chromosomes thus it will never make me any more or less of a man.

If women elect to dust once per week and men dust once per month that’s more housework. Does the house need to be dusted once per week? Does it matter? Men won’t vote for people, or a political party, that they perceive as having unwarranted disdain for them. What is the thinking behind that? They must see that it creates an echo chamber. I guess they want to cut down on low-effort, bad-faith posts/comments. I hope they’re aware enough to see the trade offs and potential downsides. I could imagine they’ve had bad experiences with people and it got to a point where that was the decision that was made. Does this sub auto-ban people in the same way? Anyone know?

This is a good example of reputation destruction, and bullying some women use and feel completely justified in doing so. It’s soft power. Women are more likely to use relational or indirect aggression: gossip, exclusion, subtle sabotage. I think this is one reason why men can be very wary of working with women, marriage, women in positions of power. Definitely a reason men are checking out from society. I grew up hearing this narrative that men are selfish and don’t invest in communities or rela…

I think this is a silly take and a smells of feminism to me. Men are rioting in LA, other men are quelling the riots in LA. When feminists take this position I start to wonder, what do women actually do in the world? Just sit around complaining about men? Is that it? I’d like to think (hope) women are more engaged and active in the world than that. But maybe they’re too busy getting women’s studies degrees and complaining about how they’re not being paid as much as a man. You know, the men that …

I agree. But I think this is kind of tricky because I think women aren’t actually attracted to as many men or men as much as men are to women. There’s the OKC metrics that say something like women rate 80% of men as below average or something like that, and I have my own personal anecdotes that support this. But I think it’s deeper and more multifaceted. If women initiated more they might only pursue a small fraction of men. Maybe after enough rejection or time wasted the market would equalize. …

That’s an interesting take and it sounds pretty similar to the counterpoint I outlined in the OP - men’s feelings generally aren’t well received, so men learn not to talk about them, so if there is a skill deficit it’s due to a lack of genuine practice. What you’re describing isn’t just dating. It’s something quieter, more structural. It’s how modern culture moralizes desire itself. For women, attraction is self-justifying. If she wants him — even if he’s toxic, narcissistic, objectively terrible — her desire is treated as valid, complicated, “human.” There are always reasons. There is always nuance. For men, desire is inherently suspect. To want is already to risk accusations of entitlement, fragility, predation. If women don’t want you, it’s …

I don’t think this is a real theory = I would like data and sources to substantiate this claim. Just asking for sources would have been a more productive comment IMHO. And, I don’t think you’ll get them. I certainly won’t take the time to provide them in order convince someone. I, personally, am skeptical that the academics that are in the position to generate this kind of research/data would do so (and do so with integrity). In my life the only times I’ve ever worried about appearing lacking in masculinity was how I might appear to women. The only times I’ve been judged as lacking masculinity was by women (or by other men that were looking out for me so I didn’t appear unmanly in front of women). The only times I’ve been attacked for seeming unmanly by other men was to impress women. Women police masculinity much more than men do IMHO. I think the issue many of us have with modern feminism isn’t with equality in theory—it’s with how the movement operates in practice. Modern feminist theory often portrays itself as subversive and countercultural, a brave rebellion against entrenched power. But in reality, its influence has been deeply embedded in government, academia, media, corporate HR departments, education, and even medicine for decades. It’s the dominant moral framework in much of Western society—mainstream, institutionali…

When I’ve had this conversation with women in person and ask them what infantilizing women looks like they reliably say something self-serving like “not giving women difficult tasks at work because they don’t think she’s competent enough, resulting in her missing out on promotions, higher pay, etc”. “Women have always been the primary victims of war. Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in combat.“ - H. Clinton

If you call a woman a “see you next Tuesday” seriously you could lose your job, lose friends, banned from online or public spaces, get labeled a misogynist, lose dating prospects. Is there a word that a female user would receive the same penalties if she used it against a man? Would she be called a misandrist? In my experience misandrist isn’t even in a lay person’s vocabulary. It’s infantilizing to protect women from words and women should care more about not being infantilized if they want to …

They want to maintain plausible deniability. Women hate toxic masculinity until toxic masculinity is kicking someone’s teeth in because they are insufficiently feminist. Then it’s no longer toxic masculinity, he’s just a strong sexy male ally.

It’s not that the show will instantly make boys hate girls—it’s that we’re living in a culture where narratives like this keep painting boys and men as irrational, hateful, brainwashed, violent misogynists. Meanwhile, girls are told they’re right to fear or even hate men and boys. Not just subtly either—we’re talking literal, explicit messaging: “I hate men and my hate is justified,” “men are trash,” “men are morally inferior.” And this kind of content serves as propaganda to justify that hate. …

That’s horribly abusive generational guilt. Those boys would have to engage in some profound self-hate to rationalize deserving that kind of abuse (I’m assuming this came from someone that should have been a caregiver, someone that should have made them feel safe and heard). How the people forcing that on those boys did not have the foresight to see how this will fester into resentment is truly baffling to me. I’m sorry that happened to you.

They’re using bad faith rhetorical strategies — guilt by association, emotional reasoning, and narrative control. Saying all male advocates are like Andrew Tate is like saying all feminists are like misandrist Twitter trolls. It’s a smear tactic. Most of us are working to create healthier, more emotionally grounded spaces for men — not to push ragebait. The irony is, when you demonize all male spaces, you actually push more men toward people like Tate.

I’ve never had a conversation with women about attraction where they said kind, gentle, and selfless. I’ve reliably heard confident, “takes what he wants”, and maybe humor as a benign trait. I really don’t think I’m exaggerating or being hyperbolic. I don’t think all women are solely attracted to those qualities. I think it’s more that women aren’t asked to reflect on and have any kind of self consciousness about what they’re attracted to the same way men are.

I see what you’re saying. It’s not the only thing people look for in a relationship - people do value these qualities I agree, but in my experience virtuous, noble qualities are so low on the list of what people are actually looking for in a partner that it is functionally the same as not looking for those traits at all. You said yourself no one, not even Christian’s would say to get a partner you gotta be Christlike. Christ exists and persists as a myth because of his virtue, because he’s someo…

You realize just because you think something is true doesn’t make it true right? You have to persuade people that what you think is what best aligns with reality. Just assuming you’re right and stating it as fact persuades no one. That’s arguing in bad faith.

Jesus is the physical manifestation of virtue and the embodiment of virtuous traits. You could do the same thought experiment with Buddha or some other idealized virtuous figure. This is more an exploration of values and norms in our culture. The fact that people don’t say “you should be more like Jesus to attract a partner” makes my point. The culture that says “if you want a good partner you should be more like Jesus or Buddha or this other noble virtuous figure” would be a preferable culture …

The gender difference happens because pumping and dumping Mary would be called out for toxic masculinity at its worst. Stephen Colbert would have a field day and there would be a Netflix special about it. Leaving Jesus on read is just women’s preferences. No further explanation or exploration needed. It’s a double standard. But yeah culture is can feel pretty well cooked I don’t disagree there.

For the record. I’m not a Christian. Never been a theist. I think you could do this same thought experiment with Buddha or any other figure idealized for their virtue. I’m commenting on cultural values, especially in dating, and what traits we as a culture incentivize. If women incentivize confidence over humility, bravado over benevolence I think our society and culture is worse for it. I can aspire to cultivate these qualities in myself. But if my partner isn’t attracted to these qualities I’m…

I’ve had something like this happen to me/seen it happen to others. “Good life lesson though, if it walks, talks and acts like an insecure manipulator you might want to distance yourself instead of giving it fuel to form a delusion.” So true. Narcissists exist, manipulators exist, dark triad people exist. People, even those you trust, can be manipulated and betray you. Trust your instincts, listen to your intuition, and protect yourselves gentlemen.

I don’t condone hate or an obsessive preoccupation with criticizing something. But I do think desacralizing feminism is a worthy project. Treating feminism as beyond criticism and as a moral imperative can shut down discussions that need to happen. The line for what speech is considered needlessly inflammatory or hateful is pushed past what is rational when things are treated as sacred.

This reeks of rage bait—Netflix’s new MO. “How can we churn out low-calorie slop that triggers everyone, fuels division, and, if we’re lucky, sparks arguments that lead to actual breakups?” You just know some couples will end up fighting over whether it’s rational for women to choose the bear. And that scene—where the child (a clear symbolic stand-in for violent, oppressive patriarchy) stands up, yelling, while the poor, helpless woman (framed like a cop in an interrogation room or a therapist) …

“Toxic masculinity is wicked until it’s working for me and not against me”. I’ve seen that attitude played out irl on numerous occasions. The core idea being that men’s actions should be directly benefiting women and if they’re not then we have a problem. Because this isn’t motivated by morals or justice, it’s about personal enrichment, some women will overlook toxic behavior as long as they themselves benefit. The women that make rules for betas and break rules for alphas. The type of woman tha…

Well put. But I’m not sure I completely agree that women are convinced that it benefits them. Some women for sure think this. But for some women it is completely invisible. Ask a few women in her past romantic encounters who initiated the first kiss? Don’t be surprised to hear the answer “it kind of just happens. No one really initiates it.” Then ask her how many times someone tried to kiss her and she rejected them compared to how many times she’s attempted to kiss someone and been rejected. If…
