How old are they? It’s a complicated situation cause I agree you don’t wanna lie to the kids but the same time you don’t want to cause division with the other parent as much as often time we may have very strong negative feelings about them. It’s better to focus on the fact that mommy and daddy both love you very much. We just were not a good fit for each other. As they get older, they start to realize the truth of the situation.

Once she says she wants divorces it’s over. She’s already checked out. Is it possible theoretically, but most likely not.

Yeah, I’ve had those talks and in similar tones. But it didn’t make the moments any easier. I’m brought back to my own parents divorce and decades later I know it was the right thing for them but at that age it’s hard not to feel broken.

I was 36 when we separated, and now, at 38, 37 when the divorce is finalized. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer because many variables come into play. Consider the reasons for your separation, your state of mind before, during, and after the breakup, and your support system. The best advice I can give you is to focus on yourself. Find what brings you passion—a hobby, the gym, working out—and stay away from destructive things like alcohol or drugs that won’t help at all. Don’t rush into a new r…

I’m Catholic and going through the annulment process (if you thought divorce was tough let me tell you). That being said, you being divorced has absolutely not impact on you child’s decision or ability to receive the sacraments. Additionally, even if you are divorced legally it’s does not necessarily bar you from full participation. You can look into getting an annulment from the church as well, since your partner was Protestant and I am assuming you were not married in the Church it will likely…

Since my separation/divorce I’ve been working out a lot. My routine is a little extreme, but it keeps me away from the bottle which is good. Morning cardio - 45 minutes steady states walk with high incline Afternoon - strength training 90 minutes 6 days a week push day, pull day, leg day, rest repeat. I’ve lost 50 pounds over the last year and built a lot of muscle. Best shape of my life.

To what extent have you had these conversations with your wife? Divorce is a serious decision and should only come after you have tried everything else. I am not saying your feelings are not valid. It sounds like you are unhappy and feeling stuck. But have you talked to your wife openly about what you need and how you feel? People go through different stages in life. Sometimes it is not that the love is gone. It might just be that both of you are not seeing or hearing each other the way you used…

Here’s some hard truth for you. You had a wife who cared, who wanted to go to therapy and fix things. She still saw you after the breakup and is about to have your second child. But you walked away because things felt boring or not exciting enough? Now you are upset because dating is not what you thought it would be. You are not missing her because you realize her worth. You are just frustrated that your plan did not give you what you wanted. That is not love. That is immaturity. She gave you a …

Every time I drop them off, they don’t want to my four-year-old is constantly telling that mommy is mad at her. It breaks my heart every day. The divorce is not my choice even though I know for me it’s better, but I’m absolutely gutted for my kids. It might that she’s afraid of what people will think to be honest. While 50/50 is more and more common there’s still this perception that the mother is always primary so it could be an optic thing… “what will people think if they new we had 50/50?”
/r/Divorce_Men20/04/25 10:07 PM

Since you both have 50/50 custody, she’s usually allowed to take your child to church during her time, just like you can choose not to during yours. Unless it’s something big like baptism or in your custody agreement, it’s hard to stop. If it really bothers you, try talking to her or contact an attorney for advice.

Why exactly do you think a divorce is imminent? For all intensive purposes you two are still newlyweds and you have a brand new baby this alone indicate that there’s gonna be a lot of stress and changes in both of your lives, she could still be postpartum, Is there cheating abuse, or is it simply been difficult? Because if it’s the latter I would recommend, before you consider divorce, going to couples counseling and talk to each other.

I agree. Before Soberlink I was voluntarily using BACtrack it took a picture and shared my location. I get it. I was voluntarily breathalyzing before the order was in place because I knew my wife would make it an issue. I’ve never not breathalyzed, even when those times I was late I was breathalyzing. Ive started breathalyzing more frequently than required - order says every 6 hours (midnight, 6am, noon, 6pm) so I’ve been trying to do every 3 (except midnight to 6). Sometimes life just happens though, middle of making the kids dinner or stuck in a meeting that’s running over with a client.

It’s completely normal to hold onto memories of someone who might not have truly existed the way you envisioned them. Sometimes, we idealize people or situations, creating an image that feels comforting, even if it doesn’t align with reality. Letting go of that idealization can be tough, but it’s also an opportunity to refocus on yourself and what genuinely makes you happy. Start by diving into activities that resonate with you—whether it’s revisiting old hobbies or discovering new ones. Hitting…

My stbxw pulled the same shit. I picked my kids up from school texted her and said they were spending the night with me. You need to establish that you’re able and willing to care for the kids. Yeah, it’s not that hard. Worse case would be what it is now, the temporary custody order was put in place because of claims about alcohol abuse, which was a struggle years ago. Court mandated some things which I have complied with so I am confident that 50/50 is a likely outcome.

From what I understand and most juristic 50-50 is the default and the fact that you’ve been doing it for a year and if you can establish that in court, put you at an advantage to the status quo should be maintained unless there is some reason that she can prove that there’s some risk to the children with them being with you 50-50

Other women were looking and I noticed her noticing and it was driving her crazy… I’m not the least bit sorry for being petty and taking immense joy from that.

I think in most situations women are a bit delusional in what they are entitled to finically, while when it comes to child custody courts still tend to favor the mother when it comes to assets and alimony most situations seem to be much more equitable. Sure if the wife was a SAHM she’s probably going to get alimony but if she worked and contributed to the household finances it seems a lot less common.

We had a full time Nanny while still together which drove me crazy, super expensive. STBXW didn’t want to let the nanny go even free I was laid off.

It’s a term that used way too liberally. My ex accused me of it and while I see some of those traits in her I refrain from diagnosing anyone.

Mines all Child Support based off the calculator in NC. Luckily it should drop significantly once the permanent custody is in place she made all sort of claims about alcohol abuse so I have to jump through a few hoops for 9 months.

It’s going to depend widely from state to state and case by case. Alimony is still very much a thing but it’s decreasing and less likely if both spouses worked during the marriage and had relatively similar levels of financial contributions.

I big factor on the amount is my daughter’s daycare she has less than 2 years left once that the worksheet has the obligation getting cut in half. What bothers me is how vindictive and litigious she’s being. Before I was willing to let her keep the house. But getting those papers severed was the straw that broke the camels back. The house has 500k in equity and I’m going after every cent I’m due. I didn’t want to disrupt the kids lives any more than necessary but she’s playing stupid games now a…

We got the temporary custody court ordered, the court would go by the worksheet for CS most likely. Other than the issues regarding the kids we have to wait until we file for assets unless she agrees to mediation.

I tried. Went back and forth with lawyers. Went to mediation, she refused any compromise. She’d rather see it all burn in court cost.

No I can’t file until 1 year of separating, I’m not sure how long it will take after that. There’s no “legal” separation in NC on physical. We have to be at different residence.

I’ve been seeing a therapist since before we separated and over the last few months I’ve gotten into the best shape I’ve been in 10 years. You should hear some of the shit pulled when we were together. I’m happier now for sure but she does shit like this and it sets me off.

She’s basing her claim off of one night 8 years ago where I had to much to drink and embarrassed her in front of some friends, I have a drink a few times a year usually at like a work dinner. Never have alcohol in the house, she’s been making this claim for a years, I’ve done individually therapy and was voluntarily breathalyzing (never blowing anything but zero) and even paid for a substance abuse assessment before the temporary custody hearing where they classified me as low risk.
