I got a text from a friend less then two weeks after we separated (well before any divorce paperwork) about her at the bar all over some guy, it took literally everything I had in me to not go to the bar. It’s weird and hard, and it’s not a linear path to moving on. It’s hard but gotta remember she’s your ex

It sucks, but it’s all worth money and if you can’t agree on things with her it’s cheaper to re buy it then pay a lawyer to fight over it. It’s hard but the less attached you are to things the better in the long run n

Go talk to a marriage counselor asap, and also a separate counselor for yourself. Personally I don’t think staying for the kids is good for anyone especially the kids. Work on fixing the problem if you can

Essentially total assets minus total debt gives you a number, split that in half and divvy out assets accordingly. It’ll be more complicated but that’ll be the baseline

Gather as much information as you can possibly get your hands on, bank account details and statements, retirement, house value and debt, vehicles income etc figure out what you’d think is fair to split and start there, see what they think and start working from that

Not post divorce… but absolutely go do it. You won’t regret it and it’s not a bad deal at all, super easy non painful process

You’re being used, it’s crappy but she cheated, she’s milking you for whatever she can, split everything 50/50 don’t give her your equity in the home.

Whatever flows out of your head, some days it will be painful words, some days will be hate and negativity, some days will be sunshine and rainbows. For me it’s the act of doing it more than anything. I have my old ones and a few tomes it’s been good to look back at, hard days post brake up I’ve read through some of the rough times and it’s helped a lot to be able to remember how bad the marriage was. That’s actually been really helpful when I’m down

Our local college has counselors super cheap like $15 a session for general public having a professional (they’re graduate level students) to talk to has made a huge difference to me. Also a journal 📓 is highly recommended

Plan things, plan a trip next summer or something so you have something to look forward to. It sounds silly but having a dog 🐕 going through this has been an unbelievably huge thing, coming home to a wagging tail is very awesome

Left mine at the house we shared, haven’t worn it since the day she said she was done.

You’re grieving the person you married not the one you’re divorcing. It’s a hard thing to face but it’s the truth. it sucks, there’s no two ways about it. We were both checked out for a while, dead bedroom barely did anything together… lots of other trauma I won’t share. We’re a couple months out and some days are really hard. But they get fewer and further between as time marches on

Last year we were at a large house party I tried to get handsey and she blew up and yelled at me infront of people… took another year but were separated now. I wish I would have just left that night

That makes sense. I’m currently sleeping in my camper so the gym is good plus I can shower there. It’ll get better soon enough

Go to they gym. Being pushed physically is the best medicine I can find. Plus you’ll be more fit when the time comes for a new relationship. Win win

It is what it is. It’s hard but it’s the start of a new road in life. Things will be better soon. I have my dog 🐕 and my cat makes it way more tolerable

I’m there, staying in my camper at the moment. From a house with people and stuff going on to a lonely camp trailer while I figure out my shit. 💩 it’s hard to say the least

I don’t agree. If you need to talk to someone talk to a therapist. There’s zero reason to tell family or anyone intimate details if your relationship

You’re both adults, all anyone needs to know is you’ve decided that you’re done and moving on. No one needs to know the drama

Is there a time frame? Like don’t say anything for a month to get things together or something? Not at all is going to blow up
/r/Divorce_Men21/10/25 11:59 AM

Yes! But I’m willing to admit it takes two to tango and generally two to ruin things. Neither of us have/had a secure attachment style. Working on myself before I get into another relationship that’s going to blow up in my face again

My first night alone I slept in my truck at the grocery store. She yelled at me and told me not to come home … so I didn’t. That was the final straw for me. Shes told my many times she wants a divorce we’ve tried to work past that, but drunk and telling me not to come home … ok careful what you wish for

Don’t drag it out, if it’s happening get it over with, dragging it out racks up lawyer bills and causes more damage emotionally for everyone including the kids. Put the kids needs first. Honestly saying you want to drag it out seems like a control thing which would fit as a narcissistic trait. I’m obviously not a councilor but the divorce coaches cat you are, (assuming you’ve actually talked to them not just instagram reels) the. You likely are, and Need to get professional help and work on your…

There’s been lots of fights, all my unreplacable things (baby book, pictures from my childhood etc) haven’t been in the home for a couple months now. My post seemed much more rash than it is in real life.

Have two consultations with attorneys setup, tomorrow then beginning of next week. And have a pretty solid exit strategy for moving out. Getting all my ducks in a row currently

I hope so. Hopefully she won’t put up a huge fight.

Consider moving to a cheaper col area? Thats easier said then done with kids but its possibly an option

Google/chat gpt New York laws regarding alamony and also filing an uncontested divorce. After getting what info you need talk to her and see if she’s in the Same boat maybe she’s doing the exact same thing and it’ll be super chill. If not I i guess you start making moves to get a lawyer involved
/r/Divorce_Men08/10/25 02:16 PM
2

If there’s nothing to fight over do you need a lawyer? Most states you can legally file for yourself if it’s uncontested, with such small amounts of money just give her all of the 15k and walk away. But will you be able to afford to live separately? Does she work? Are you gonna get hit with alimony?

Unfortunately I’m fully expecting a smear campaign… that’s what it is I guess… Sucks but it’s coming and that’s part of the reason I’ve avoiding this but riding the train the wrong direction longer doesn’t make it easier to get back
