I feel this. I remember also wanting the relationship I had, just not with the person I was with. It’s a rough feeling.

I was allowed to borrow money from my parents to buy out my ex’s portion of the house. I don’t know if she paid a tax penalty on the money she received. Your state laws may be different.

If things between the two of you are still civil, maybe you could seize the moment for a fast, undisputed divorce? It hurts like hell but if it moves fast, you may he able to save yourself a fortune.

We’ve been separated for a little over two months, officially divorced one. Four kids together - 50/50 custody. Personally, I’m lonely - but less lonely than I was with her. My kids are handling it well. Of course they’re hurt, and a couple have acted out in school. But they’re going to be ok. I think I’m a better father now. Before I was in survival mode. I was almost always in a state of high stress, even in my own home. Not anymore. I have dedicated time to myself, I can create the home with …

My ex never wanted sex. She clung to a variety of reasons, but the last one she used before we split was she is demisexual - she needs a strong emotional connection to feel sexual. But she also wouldn’t put in much, if any, effort to building that connection and rejected most of my efforts. After I told her I want a divorce she lamented that our last sex didn’t last longer. A little while later she mused about having a one night stand on her next birthday.

My mediator divorce was signed the same day it was dropped off on the judge’s desk. Due to custody split, my shift at work changed. By extension I took a 10% pay cut. I didn’t get any flak for my reduced pay. If you’re worried about getting screwed on child support, my state has it written into the divorce decree that any change in pay of 30% or more must be announced so child support can be recalculated. Either party can initiate a recalculation of child support after 2 or 3 years, as well.

We’re in the early stages of divorce right now. She started packing things yesterday. So far everything is amicable, and I’m grateful for that. She has been having lots of small epiphanies lately - how to make small improvements in herself, how to budget, how to be more independent, etc. I’m simultaneously happy for her for finally realizing these things - things I tried to talk to her about for years - and also internally screaming why couldn’t you realize this earlier?!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
