Dang that sounds too similar. Almost makes you feel bad for them, almost. Women run to the opposite of us
/r/Divorce_Men31/01/26 09:10 PM
3

Exactly. You CHOSE to destroy the family and see the kids half the time…for this guy?
/r/Divorce_Men31/01/26 06:04 PM

Women don’t treat you us like they treat their dad, they treat us like their mother treated their father

ChatGPT isn’t going to give us any magical wisdom BUT it will help you PAUSE and make smarter choices. I never reply to my ex without first running it thru ChatGPT to make sure I don’t make a mistake in my reply. Good post OP

You’re overthinking and that’s normal. Once you’re comfortable with the next woman you will be able to figure out what she wants and will allow, just like your wife did with you
/r/Divorce_Men04/01/26 06:17 PM

Yep. That convo with the kids is tough. And they have every right to hate it. Just be the source of comfort for them and dad they deserve. They will one day see what mom did and resent her for it
/r/Divorce_Men03/01/26 07:18 PM

YW. Just fyi, last night after 9 months of separation, my oldest 2 daughters came to my room late at night to tell me how much they hate the back and forth and 50% thing. But it took them 9 months to admit. They were strong for mom and acted like they were fine this entire time. But they recognize now mom made the selfish decision and they’re venting to me about it. Doesn’t fix anything, but it’s a huge reward to be the parent they confide in during their struggles

You don’t have to forgive her. But I’ll save you some time, you do need to accept it’s happening and control what you can. Your kids world is about to be blown up and they are the only innocent victims in this. Be the dad they deserve, best version of you. Be steady. Be calm. Don’t trash mom to them. They need 100% support and love from both to get thru. You can do this

Perspective and priority clarity is one of the BEST pros of a divorce. Make your time matter, become better in every way and stop wasting your life.

I wish that was the case here, would’ve made it easier to hate her and give her less. My wife had a mid life identity crisis that I feel her therapist and TikTok guided. Low intelligence sadly

This is the first time my ex has paid bills, ever. She’s learning how expensive this world is. Especially with 4 kids. I know how to make money. It’s what I’m best at, she even put that in her declaration. Funny thing is my only motivation was for her and the kids. Now it’s just for the kids and I’m having a career year. She drained me
/r/Divorce_Men28/12/25 05:10 PM

You think I’m gonna make that mistake again? If the woman I had 4 kids with in this world could decide out of nowhere to flip the switch in year 16…I could never trust again.

Therapists are their own evil empire in this all

Yes sir. My ex convinced the older girls she was going to die young if she stayed. My older girls had no choice but to believe that at first because that scared them for her. 9 months later, they see that was a lie. Now they are watching her life continue to be chaos and I’ve become the steady consistent parent. She really blew it for herself and them. Like I said, I’m the only one really benefiting which is wrong. But I’m just doing the best with what I was given.

Man these replies are all the same. Yes we’re all better fathers once divorced, hopefully. But if the question is about the kids, how are they? I have 4 kids and the mom decided to blow up their world when the youngest was still 6. Not one of my kids is doing better. 2 developed ticks post separation. This wasn’t a house of abuse or fighting. They want mom and dad everyday, it’s all they’ve ever known. They don’t want 2 houses to rotate in between. They hate the back and forth. They now hate sch…

Yeah she may like me too much. Worst part is I’ve been completely honest with her about my situation and where I am with this in my head. And she’s totally fine waiting and being patient. Except she continues to send me videos of her showering. It would really be easier to resist if she wasn’t so beautiful and nice. I missed that. But yeah, it sparked a lot of memories and feelings about my ex I haven’t healed yet

Respect the fact that if this helped you you want to share for me. Just know not every story is the same. Some memories and women can be good and not all lies just so you can move on

Good luck man. It’s scary how they can think we can all just be co parenting friends after what they do to us. Either mental or lying to themselves.

I’m really sorry man. I hear so much of that pain in you that I have. It doesn’t matter how gorgeous and perfect the new girl is, she ain’t her. It really does end our side of the vow subconsciously and that hurts some of us

Married 16 years. The girl pursuing me is 35 and exactly my type (resembles my wife in a weird way) BUT I am scared. I don’t know anything else but my wife. This feels like me closing the door on it before the final papers are signed and it’s made me super emotional. A part of me I thought was healed and over any hope.
/r/Divorce_Men07/12/25 03:10 AM

I just think I had forgotten about this unprocessed emotion because it had been buried so deep for so long. But yeah, it scared me. It made me miss her. And this girl knows it but won’t stop. I just don’t know what I want and yes I know I sound like a little bitch right now 🤣

To answer your questions in bold: yes it does get easier, but the when part can’t be answered. My first 6 months I was a wreck. Grieving. Barely able to get through every day. I asked these questions too. Everyone kept saying time is the only thing that will help and they were right. I will say after 6 months of really focusing on getting better (therapy, gym, reading) it started to ease for me. I don’t know when we’re completely over it. I’m still looking of that moment but I can sense it’s com…

Why are you in a rush to hookup? I’m 9 months separated and am very happy I didn’t yet. Gave me the time to truly just focus on me. Revenge sex/ or just fucking for no reason wasn’t the kind of guy I wanted to be. There’s no set time or standard, but week 4 seems early
/r/Divorce_Men02/12/25 09:11 PM
3

Truth is I think almost everyone of us understand the feeling. And there’s no words that we say that are gonna help the pain, but could help shorten it. You’re gonna feel it, all of it. You won’t die from feeling it. Only time is going to cure it, you can make that time shorter if you get to work on yourself. Don’t fight the grieving, and get yourself into therapy and the gym EVERYDAY right now
/r/Divorce_Men01/12/25 10:54 PM

We spent the day together Saturday. Getting to know her very slowly and without more than hugging so far but I can tell she’s wanting more and I told her I need her to be patient because I’m still not sure I’m there and want to at least be honest
/r/Divorce_Men01/12/25 08:33 PM

I’m not healed fully but at the same time, I wouldn’t take my wife back today if she begged. What she did to the kids, to me, just to escape and justify it was pure evil. My only thought is not to play with this girls head

You didn’t forget, you just haven’t had to use that skill in a long time. You’ll find it again when you’re ready. It’s all related to your confidence

Feel this one. I just left the gym and was like, what now? Where are my kids? Where is my turkey dinner we enjoyed as a family for the last 16 years? Oh that’s right, at her new place that I get to pay for as well. I’m not even angry with her anymore, just extremely disappointed. Like a father to a child. She blew up the family for such selfish reasons. Under the disguise that it was best for the kids. My kids were so happy their entire lives, and hate this new back and forth life. Thanks mom
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/25 06:51 PM
1

Exactly. We can’t help but instantly take blame and try and fix the situation as best we can, even more so for the kids. But time, clarity, and healing has a way of revealing the truth: WE deserve better. And agreeing to a be “coparenting friends” is not an option when they literally hate you and would take everything from you if they could
/r/Divorce_Men26/11/25 04:06 PM
4

That control factor is a thing. Like you, I’m 9 months separated, getting close to being finalized. But since I’ve gone no contact unless kid related, it has seemed to upset her more and more. Did you think we were going to be friends silly girl?

It fluctuates. Some weeks I feel great. Then something can trigger me into a spiral of dark depression like it’s day 1 again. It’s usually something she does.

The look in her eyes when she told me she couldn’t stay with me any longer. Completely checked out, cold, detached, robotic responses. I knew then. Didn’t mean I didn’t try to persuade or fix it, but I knew then.

Time will be your best friend. If you stay the course and fight for your kid. Show up. Quality time. Teens are extremely self aware of reality even when mom ties are close. Be the kind of dad she needs you to be

Doesn’t mean you didn’t make a difference in their lives, think of it for them, you were their source of fatherly comfort they needed

Just do it. Force yourself. Just like you are forcing yourself to eat, force yourself to get to the gym, even if it’s for 20 minutes in the sauna. Being around people working on themselves will give you a peace you can’t find elsewhere during this time
/r/Divorce_Men05/11/25 04:43 PM
8

Yeah we have all been there. It will take time. There’s no words that ease the pain early on. You’ll eventually see you were romanticizing your time with your wife when it was actually terrible. Get in therapy, get to the gym, stay busy making yourself better each day. Eventually you will see the light

A thought that’s been keeping me positive in the same boat as you: there is a woman out there that is going to get the best version of me ever and the excitement of not knowing who it is keeps me working on myself everyday. Not forcing anything, just continuing to focus on me

My attorney emailed hers tonight and basically said that will be my plan going forward. She’s gonna deflect and I’m sure play innocent “I was just trying to protect the kids blah blah blah” She was willing to cripple me and lie in the most disgusting way to get what she wants. And thought I would just be fine? Psycho

I really feel bad for whoever I date first after all this only due to the fact they will be under extra scrutiny from my lenses. Divorce has been such an eye opener for how much I allowed/overlooked simply because I trusted my wife. Trusting again is many years away. Seeing things clearly is a blessing and a curse

I don’t think it’s helpful for me to think of her as a narcissist. That’s usually what women do to us automatically. I’m actually more concerned with her mental stability being able to justify her actions by lying to herself. I still believe she actually thinks she’s doing this all for the kids. Whether true or not. I hate that term sorry lol
/r/Divorce_Men24/10/25 04:51 PM

Very true. It’s sad when you know exactly how you explained and said things, but then she rewrites history to herself, the kids, friends in her own version to make us look worse.

Another divorced dad I know said something that kind of, almost made me make sense of it all. “In her mind, these are her kids only now. She grew them inside her, she nursed them as babies. While you sole provided, she was there all day with them. So in her mind, ONLY she can protect them from this world. And you are now someone she refuses to ever trust again and are the one making her lose her kids 50% of the time. In her mind, again not your fault as she asked for the divorce” It is slightly …

Mind numbing distraction. Yes my wife became a IG reels scroller. Not the typical feminist stuff most guys warn about here but just endless time wasting. She said it helped calm her adhd down. It was all Bs
/r/Divorce_Men24/10/25 03:55 PM
3

Exactly…yeah she at the beginning begged me to do this peacefully. Which, even though I was in my own twilight zone of grief and the world spinning, I agreed and meant. But 8 months later she still refuses to move to mediation and continues to be upset the court gave me 50/50. Because it didn’t go her way she has become vengeful. I won’t even text my kids anything but goodnight or I love you because she has snapped and cutoff messages from me to them to try and spin to her benefit. Innocent dad …

Yeah I never asked permission and the next girl will understand that too 🤣
/r/Divorce_Men24/10/25 03:44 PM

I’m sorry that happened to you, but so happy to hear the outcome. My wife tried about a month ago to make similar false allegations, not to the point of rape, but that my sexual aggression was intensifying and she needed to protect the kids from it. Judge denied every motion she brought to it and said if she tries that again she will have child psych investigations to prove perjury. Disgusting how low they will go.
/r/Divorce_Men24/10/25 03:40 PM
6

Hasn’t stopped. Her order was denied without hearing my side. Judge wasn’t gonna grant anything to her without any actual evidence just hear say,
/r/Divorce_Men19/10/25 12:54 AM
7

They will. I said the same thing a few weeks ago. Been operating 50/50 for 6 months now with no issues but she then decided on a random Friday to try and file for an immediate restraining order, had me drug tested, unleashed years backs declarations of lies out of nowhere. As low as she could go. And I did NOTHING to provoke it. I lay awake at night trying to still figure out what the hell happened

Thank you for this. It’s so true. In the moment I was panicking and wanting to react but once I spoke to my attorney, provided facts and just talked this out loud, it became clear no judge is going to give any of her shit any merit. Just baseless accusations with no proof. But man it makes you upset in the moment because it’s so disgustingly evil
/r/Divorce_Men18/10/25 05:08 PM
3

I’ll just touch on the part I can relate to, besides the 4 beautiful children which I share. Alcohol destroyed our marriage because it destroyed her trust in me as a person. And even with long stints of sobriety, she always expected it to fail eventually. I lost everything because of alcohol and was willing to give it up to get everything back. But she said it was too late. It was ONLY too late for her because my kids, my family, my friends, and even enemies can’t help but forgive me because I’m…
/r/Divorce_Men18/10/25 04:04 PM

Yes sir. This is what they do when they get desperate. Starts with substance abuse and physically dangerous, and when that doesn’t work, they will even go as low to say you’re potentially sexually dangerous to your kids. It’s pure evil but common. Just stay calm and provide facts and evidence to show otherwise
/r/Divorce_Men16/10/25 06:46 PM

That “rule” seems silly. This isn’t a math equation. When you are fully healed and over your ex, only then should you date. Otherwise it’s a rebound and it will end badly

/r/Divorce_Men09/10/25 02:34 AM

Yep. And we’re allowed to be angry. Just not towards them. When I get my kids after a week with their mom I have to hear the same shit and it is gutting. But I can’t control that. Just myself. It does get easier
/r/Divorce_Men09/10/25 12:56 AM
1

So true. Early on I took so much ownership of my share of the blame and saw her in such an appreciative light because I realize how long she put up with my shit, but time has a way of revealing true character because since she has been cold, calculated, and evil. The better I do, the worse she gets. Strange

He’s probably thinking about you more. But the pain of not seeing them, and then feeling like they don’t miss you is the hardest part. But as time goes on you’ll see that’s not true. Make your time with him count. Make memories. Make the best of every opportunity. That will keep you going

/r/Divorce_Men02/10/25 11:17 PM

Upset? Yeah. She quit on us and blew up my kids life. I have learned in the 6 months that I’ll be angry, sad, resentful, forgiving in the same minute when I think about her. It’s not about not taking ownership of my amount of blame in the matter, but we’re allowed to be upset with them. Sometimes I’m more disappointed in her than anything
/r/Divorce_Men02/10/25 02:33 AM

Man your kid is 3 and loves you unconditionally. Just give him your attention and love. Make him feel safe. Take him to parks, on walks, to kids play places. He will remember the time and your attention more than a toy or electronic will
/r/Divorce_Men28/09/25 08:12 PM

At first, it was fear of losing her and never loving again. 6 months later, it’s 100% fearing the effect it’s going to have on my kids. I’ll be ok. They are hurting, and angry, and unsure of what’s to come. And they are the innocent ones in this process. It’s not fair

Same man. I told my soon to be ex just this week that I would take her back this moment, not to what it was, but what it would now be. The kids deserve it as much as we do. She knew that already. She is so detached and in life flight mode that it scares her to think of possibly coming back. I get it. She was unhappy and I didn’t care for her the way she needed. Just so you know, while I’m still heartbroken and miss her, it was the gut punch I needed to be a better man. Everyone including my children, coworkers, friends, church members etc have told me this is the best version of me they have seen in a long time. It does make things clearer as far as priorities and working on yourself, as long as you’re willing to do the work. It doesn’t ease the pain but it does help you trust the plan that you’re doing what’s right

My brother, I am you, was you, and are you. There’s a lot of us. Who would’ve grown old and died faithful to our wives as they were enough for us. Unfortunately women these days seem to feel they “deserve”/“need” more than us. And they think the next guy will do that for them. I begged, pleaded, felt like dying. She had checked out and said there was nothing I could do, so like you, I had to accept that. There are no magic words that have helped, BUT, I will tell you a few big thing that has got…

It’s like being called a fascist honestly for being pro life, I don’t take it personal. I know it’s not true.

I agree but I told her it will be too late at that point for us so if she’s gonna do it, own that it means the end of us because i have accepted the reality that 50/50 of the kids is as good as it gets now for both of us so she better not come crying later

My kids are seeing me grieving this week and I’m having to pretend it’s physical illness. It’s not about ego dude. This is what I knew it was all along and I feel worse for my kids who have no idea and will hate their mom for it one day

Yeah I even called who it was before she admitted to it. Just too many coincidences. I asked why wait at this point and she kept saying because we’re still married. I really think she is hoping I find someone else first so she can look like the good guy to the kids. Not happening. I’m broken

Bro. You talked to her ex husband for advice? Man, you needed out of this marriage. You lost your damn mind. Be happy you’re only 35 and can recover. Also the guy ain’t your friend, don’t forgive him either once your marriage ends. He would do it to the next.

Right? I’ve been where op is. Analyzing my wife’s reel watching after the fact, her therapist, her support group. In the end not the actual issue, just aids maybe to helping her get to the point to leave. Low intelligence

It doesn’t help for sure but in the end if my wife made her choice because of TikTok then she needed out of this house and away from me

A lot of what you shared I have thought about 99% the same way OP. If I look ahead I am incredibly scared and pessimistic about: A. Being loved again B. Being able to trust again C. Dying alone I will just say one thing I can gather from talking to enough divorced men both here and in person, they do seem to recover. The common reply is “it just takes time and one day the right person will come into your life and make you happier than you ever were before” Are those extravagant promises to us wh…

Sorry dad. Dealing with very similar things. Son has been angry and acting out and with no explanation (other than his whole world got blown up) When kids don’t know anything else than having both parents both days they are gonna need time to grieve as well. I notice the better I am doing the better they are doing. They sense me putting them first compared to their mom putting herself first. They still love her just as much, and the older girls are especially supportive of mom because they want …

Well I decided she’s either trying to rile me up, convince herself, or just try and hurt me. Either way I didn’t fall for it

I had to pause. I wanted to either say nothing or kind of go back with what I posted like, “why are you telling me this?” But I decided I have to just keep calm like you said and acknowledge it and not give her what she was hoping for there

Dang my friend. I’m so sorry. I am only on divorce 1 but I too was sole provider to wife of 16 years with 3 kids, and yep, they get money no doubt without a prenup. On your 3rd marriage you didn’t get one? Not attacking at all, just honestly shocked, I will never remarry without one, and that’s if I ever decide to marry again.

Hey bud if it means anything, I was in court yesterday for about 3 hours, and almost every case the woman said the same exact thing, and in every single case, the judge would note the pattern and accusations troubling BUT it did not sway the judge from seeing there was no proof with just her words. Some women flat out cried and told horrifying stories under oath and the judge still while sympathetic said, “BUT…you did stay with him many years after these accusations, never filed a DV report, no …

I looked at her several times kind of like Jim in the office to Pam when certain things were said because…I know she speaks our eye language, but she wouldn’t play along. Was literally doing it to actually be her friend it wasn’t to rekindle but she is still just so cold and detached it’s sad

Dang man been exactly where you were sending a text that you know will either get no response or if it does it’s days later with a cold and terrible excuse. This is what they do. They can’t be human or show any civilness. I told her last week I’ve decided I don’t even want to be her friend so let’s just communicate by email since her emotion level is that of an HR rep anyways. I don’t even want to get back with her at this point yet she thinks showing me kindness would mess with my head? Sad

I went down to our usual anniversary dinner spot and had dinner alone and reflected on it as a sense of closure. The restaurant remembered the date and had flowers and a happy anniversary card on my reserved table for 1 (they figured I accidentally hit 1 instead of 2) not they’re fault at all but wow did that just make the night worse. Good cry on the walk home

I haven’t gotten these sentiments from my soon to be ex yet. BUT, my older daughters have said as much. Now that they see me healing and improving and making this a way of life, they are frustrated. “Why couldn’t you have just fixed this earlier?” And that makes me feel incredibly sad. Because they want both parents together, and they deserved that.
