That is true and understandable. Maybe we should call and offer to volunteer our time for that work? We probably think it is more valuable than them. To me, it is well worth the time and effort.

I live in Toronto. The posters and signs and stickers are all like this. They changed the station announcements to match the updated rules though.

It is really messed up that they don't update the signs. How are the passengers supposed to know that the rule has been updated?

Yes, but they may not be incorrect, just misleading. "50% chance of being physically or sexually abused" means "50% chance of being physically abused, but we threw sexually in there to make the stat seem more scary." Also they fail to mention that boys have the exact same 50% chance stat.

These are great stats, and I would love to use these points, but could anyone link to the StatCAN source?

A video by the Amazing Atheist opened my eyes. He called out the talkers of the View for laughing about a woman mutilating a man's genitals, the people supporting that shop owner who supposedly trapped and raped her male burgler, and the police for arresting a guy because he was naked in his house but was seen by a woman when she cut through his backyard. The View hit me the hardest. It blew my mind that so many people could screech hysterically about the hilarity of drugging a man, carving out …

You are totally right. Until puberty hits, the foreskin is fused like a nail to your finger. No one should defend circumcision without watching the procedure (you can find recordings on YouTube). When you see them scraping the "extra skin" off by shoving the scapel halfway down the penis and working it around, you know something isn't right.

I don't know if that is irony or if it actually qualifies for that thing that I just found out about, something so ironic that it comes full circle and bites itself in the backside. I don't know if there is a proper word for that. Here is something only someone incredibly sexist could say, and so of course it was said by someone attacking the MRM without any restraint.

So many times while using this, you will encounter extreme confusion. Not because articles and titles and comments don't make sense, but because they go against double standards you didn't realize you subscribed to. If these chaps really want the same parenting rights as mothers then maybe they should undergo radical surgery that enables them to bear children. At this rate, yeah, that probably will be the best route to take in the future.

The ultimate goal of a debate isn't to convince the opponent, it is to convince the audience. Your 'enemy' may never sway, but the bystanders will watch, listen, and read. From their unbiased perspective, they will freely move to what is right, what makes sense, and what is less insane.

Last summer, I was groped. The person asked me to pose for a picture, I said yes, and while the photo was taken by their friend, they reached down, grabbed my junk and squeezed. I was totally shocked. I never expected that to happen, let alone to me. I really had no idea how vulnerable I was. Advise your brother to buy it anyway, and instead of trying to hide it actually bring it up. If his potential partner is one that would laugh at him for using sex toys of any sort, then they are not the kind of person that he should be with. Consider it filtering. He shouldn't be ashamed of such things, or be worried about being shamed. I haven't tried a fleshlight, but I've gone through more than my fair share of vibrators. Given that circumcision is legal in most countries, these societies have spoken and said it’s not harm, so therefore stopping it is a violation of constitutionally guaranteed religious rights. Wait, we shouldn't put a ban on circumcision because countries don't have a ban on circumcision?

Egalitarian here. I believe gender should be removed from the laws. Sexual assault definitions should be gender-neutral. Domestic violence protections should be gender-neutral. Genital mutilation protection should be gender-neutral. Compulsory military service should be gender-neutral, (preferably gone). This would set the stage for equality, and equality can not possibly exist until this is done. After that, equality would not have to be enforced with gender quotas and such. Gaps in participati…

That's probably the scariest thing I've read. Ever. I'd say that it would never get to that state, but there already are rapists suing their victims for child support in our world, and murderers getting let off based on their claim of being battered by their partner.

I'm glad for your edit, but it's still too cringe-worthy of a reaction for me. There should be a reasonable way for people to get into this situation that wouldn't drive them to severely harming their abuser. Even if the method for the abortion was completely safe, it would be a serious attack on their right to autonomy. It's violent, full-stop. There's no good solution to the problem, except legal paternal surrender.

Here's a review for the book on Amazon: Hannah Rosin's "The End of Men" is an interesting but not fully satisfying look at the economic progress of women, the relative economic decline of men, and the societal effects of both. While the book treats the first two subjects quite thoughtfully, when she moves to explore the broader implications of this shift a rather obvious and awkward sample bias ends up weakening the author's arguments. Combined with an initial thesis that even the author admits …

I just want to point out that in Canada, it is absolutely legal to audio-record a conversation you are a part of. The rule states that only one participant must know about and consent to the recording, and that means you. This counts for in-person confrontations and phone calls. (This means that wire-tapping someone else's phone line is illegal, for example.) You can record talking to your boss, you can record talking to your partner, and you can record talking to strangers, and you can do it se…

It definitely blew my mind when I discovered it, but soon enough I understood that he is simply a person of unlimited talents. Hardly related: do you know that for one of his movies, he had to fall from a tower to the ground, and he refused to wear restraints or use a net? He wanted the shot to look genuine, so he simply dropped from the tower, and slam. After, he decided the take wasn't good enough, and did the same thing twice more. You might be surprised to find out that more men are being kicked out of school, dropping out of school, failing school, not going to school in the first place, etc. Most graduating rates are close to 60-40 now, with men as the minority. And yet there continues to be women-only grants and women-only student centres in most schools. What I'm trying to say is that situations such as your own family's, with the mother being more educated than the father, are become more and more common - and the ca…

Yup, that's the basis of the 'ad hominem' thing that everyone often talks about. By agreeing with what he said in this video, I agree with what he said in this video. That does not mean that I instantaneously agree with everything that he has ever done. I'm not supporting him I'm supporting this message. A lot of people don't understand that.

That is good news. But aren't the laws in Canada supposed to change when they are proven to be wrong/inconsistent?
/r/MensRights18/12/12 05:45 PM

Well I wasn't saying it was perfect. The age of consent in Canada is often being reformed, and these rules were put in place in 2008. Before then, anyone 14+ could consent to anyone. That means a 14 year old and 41 year old could have legally had sex.

Yup. Basically homosexual males have to wait up to 6 years longer than their heterosexual peers to have legal penetrative sex.
/r/MensRights17/12/12 07:49 PM

Also the age of consent is staggered. 16+: Can consent to people of all ages. 14-15: Can consent to people up to 5 years older. 12-13: Can consent to people up to 2 years older. This incident would have been completely legal here, even if the accused was 20 at the time instead of 17. PS: Scumbag Canada: Only those 18+ can consent to anal sex, regardless of the age of their partner.

I was speaking more along the lines of what I think society should consider rape than what the courts do consider rape now. Hell, you'd be lucky to have any of those things count as rape today even if the man is drugged.

Backing a kickstarter is donating money. Literally giving money away. Each person getting behind a project knows that and is told multiple times by the site. There should be no way to get money returned or sue or anything. It is each person's responsibility to choose what to do with their own money. This isn't like buying a product. This isn't like lending cash. The best you can hope for is a generous favour if the project ends up being completed.

Gay marriage isn't important as other issues, therefore it is bad. It's important to people who want to get married, and to people who want other people to have that ability. Marriage is supposed to be about procreation, therefore those who can't procreate shouldn't be able to marry Sterile people can get married. You do have some good points there, but I think you should change the second last one from "no chance" to "less likely". Men are constantly shamed for sleeping around, at least from my view. Even if there is no evidence, men are seen as cheaters. Men are called pigs and dogs and man-whore and I have indeed heard slut used as an insult against a man. Maybe I hang out with different types of people than you.

Remember that most of those things are 'on average'. I sure as hell am not stronger or bigger than the average woman my age. Just because I'm more likely to be big and strong doesn't mean I have a perk if I'm one of the few who are not big and strong. Also, to play devil's advocate, you could view pregnancy and childbirth as a positive thing, and say that women are blessed to be able to bear children. Men do not have the option to have that experience, and are at a disadvantage.

Hardcore pony fan here. Feminism has helped open up the definition of masculinity over the years, like it or not. I for sure wouldn't be able to publicly annouce that I enjoy it if I didn't have the ideal goals of feminism to fall back on. Is that a reason to need it? Debateable. Even if slowly, it has helped with the whole idea of broadening what men can do/enjoy.

Selective service doesn't mean every person has to go fight, they randomly choose some from the list of available people at a time. Alright, I understand what you're getting at, and I think that there should be a limit. If one doesn't agree with the way taxes are spent, they can contact their mayor or other representative, and perhaps cause some change over time. If someone is sent off to a battlefield, their lives are put at stake, and the dead can't speak for themselves. Imposing personal risk…

Definitely a great improvement, but still fundamentally flawed. Mandating that individuals must go out of their way to do something they don't want any part in is wrong, whether or not the intent is wrong. Imagine this turned down about a hundred notches: The government selects a few people to 'donate' $100 to PETA. Even if 90% of the people in the country thought PETA was a charity worthy of donation, forcing that decision on anyone - even those who would choose to support it on their own - is …

Absolutely. Forcing people into the military is not the way to go about things. There is nothing advantageous about making someone fight for a cause they don't believe in. To force someone to kill others is insanely cruel and completely uncessessary. There are many people who want to fight. Recruit them, subsidize their education, and otherwise encourage them. You want societal pressure, media campaigns, propaganda, indoctrination, fine. Those are all sketchy methods, but they give each person a…

2 women is a pretty terrible sample size, especially when only one officially dropped out due to lacking physical capability. I know what this writer is getting at, but "women can't compete" is very different statement than "these women couldn't compete". Just try to keep that in mind.

I fight for very concrete goals: gender equality in protection against genital mutilation gender equality in protection against domestic violence gender equality in protection against sexual assault gender equality in conscription/draft/selective service For me the last one means removal of such programs, not expanding it to force women into war as well.

In my view, what Long suggested completely derailed the night's debate. Not only was it offensive to assume the authority to change the dynamics of the space, but also deeply unfortunate to take the time and attention away from the artist and her film, and all the people involved. They deserved better. Yes, there is a reason why it is deeply unsettling feeling that comes along with banning an entire group of people from a supposed gender-equal space, it is sexist. Does she not get that? Sexist. …

There's lots to be happy about, if you look! Germany recently extended its genital mutilation ban to overwrite the freedom of religious expression. That's the best victory I've seen! Huggies stopped their "dads are helpless idiots" ads and now feature positive male role models every once in a while thanks to pressure from fathers. I was raised as a feminist, and strongly identified as a feminist up until a few years ago. Now, in many ways, in many situations, I identify as feminist. However it should be said that I've also identified as non-feminist and even anti-feminist in others. Feminism and the women's rights movement taught me to see the world in a way that also let me realize male issues exist. Yeah it sucks that they can't get married but that really can't compare to having your genitals mutilated with no anesthetic or dying 5 years earlier. Oh, excuse me, I must have missed the "I'm gay" checkbox when I was 2 days old that would have made me immune to circumcision.

Of course! There are quite a few gay male issues that need to be adressed. Option to donate blood and organs being denied to MSM due to the age-old fear of HIV tainting the supply. Age of consent of anal sex being always 18 in Canada, meaning straight couples and lesbians can consent to penetrative sex up to 6 years earlier. HPV vaccines - gay men are more vulnerable to the effects of anal and throat cancers caused by the virus, but only girls are given vaccines under Obamacare.

Is there a wage gap between the genders? Absolutely. This is no myth. However, the idea that women receive 70% of what men do for the same work is false. Much less of the gap is due to discrimination and can instead be explained by 'personal choices' of workers, such as choosing to work over time, overnight, on weekends, far from home, dangerous jobs, jobs that are less fulfilling, etc. Another major component is that women are way more likely to devote months or even years of their careers to t…

And now that you exposed yourself as a woman, all of your internalized misogyny has been brought to light! It of course is the only explanation of why a woman would be interested in the rights of men. (/s) Truly though, GWW, I am grateful for your work. I think its safe to say that the majority of people in the movement have a very direct stake in what they are fighting for, while your stated inspiration is more selfless: your children. Say what you want about TJ, but this very video was the tipping point for me. After watching it, my perceptions of the society we live in today changed drastically, and I actually let myself consider gender issues from a male perspective. He opened my eyes, and I am thankful for it. Is TAA a raging idiot that isn't worth listening to over half the time? Maybe. Is he right in this particular video? Absolutely.

Hah! Nice. I hadn't thought of it like that. I'll have to use this at some point. Seriously though, I hear that line a lot. Men are more often victims of murder, for example. No one is denying that more men murder, but that doesn't mean that the gendered issue is erased. It's astounding to me how some people can think in such black and white terms.

I'm not OP, but I altered the image to be a bit more accommodating. Is this any better? (link) If that still didn't do the trick, the main idea is that men are all four left graphs, and women are all four right ones. Interestingly, the idea of not being able to distinguish between the genders here could be pretty metaphoric to those of us who are interested in both sides of the issues. Egalitarianism!

I think this will really surprise them. Many of them will likely work around it inside their head "she was raised in a society dominated by males, so her male-centric views are not her own", and then we'll be able to see them dismiss you in the biased ways they all too often do.

Canada is worried about protecting religious freedom, even if it means mutilating children is part of the ritual. Being seen as anti-Semitic is a huge fear, and understandably so. But thankfully the Supreme court recently stood up for the rights of the child(brutally mutilated by his father) in this specific crime. Hey, if Germany managed to ban circumcision despite the anti-Semitism claims, I think we can do it.

"I do not purchase pornography any more" I'm not sure if this is the most effective approach to the issue. If the industry (like any other industry) changes itself to remain attractive to its market, then absolving yourself as a consumer is just going to erase your voice from the. I think that it is very important to acknowledge the work feminism has done in over many many years in getting people interested in equality. It's not "so horrible", it's that there is a huge gender difference in the consumption of pornography, and it is likely having some effect on our culture. It is possible, for example, that since guys are likely to get off on their own, that they feel less pressure from their own body to get a relationship. If someone is going into a relationship seeking sexual gratification from their partner, they might be more inclined to pressure them, or put up with treatment they otherwise wouldn't in order…

I was there at the protest (trying to get through the blockade), and the two things that really were repeated were: "He said something about date rape being exciting!" and "He said something about saying no shouldn't meant that you should stop!" Obviously these were completely out of context. They were framed in such a way that made Warren Farrell seem like a rapist, and the protesters screamed it at him and everyone else who tried to attend the talk. Here is the proper context of the quotes.

I was told that it addressed the male victims of domestic abuse, and that it indeed stated that domestic abuse was not a gendered issue. I agreed to check it out, and... This is what I find. Comment received! I think the distinction between feminist power and women's rights is very important here. The rights of women are not under attack here. The rights of men are what is important. Because this talk exposed very real issues that men and boys face as males in our society, feminism loses footing on its age-old "men are in power". There are feminists who understand the truth that men are disadvantaged in some ways - and they were inside the talk, having a civil discussion. The femini…

It's cool to see that, but I think at least recently, some forms of feminism are more conservative (look at the Komen Foundation, and Fox News feminists for example), and in ways the mens rights movement is definitely more 'liberal'. The protest was mainly against the university's action to open up a mens centre (which will be the equivalent of the womens centre that it has had for decades). Warren Farrell was pretty much a scapegoat here. The protesters needed a target, so they turned to the speaker. Mis*y should be a noun and mean the hate of (group *) itself. eg: Ted acted with misogyny. Ted's statement was filled with misogyny. Mis*ist should be a noun and mean someone or something that hates (group *). eg: Ted is a misogynist. Mis*istic should be an adjective describing the way someone or something is hateful. eg: Ted's comment was misogynistic. Ted is a misogynistic person.

I really can't give any more context than what I've said in the title. Yahoo provides no explanation of the deletion other than that it goes against the community guidelines. The question was removed before I was able to read it in its entirety, so all we have to work with is the snippet from Google. So, this might not be proof of a big censorship conspiracy, but I feel it is at least noteworthy. In case this helps, here is the URL: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20121116235126AA9Q7…

I would have done exactly what you did, but I'm pretty sure just two days ago the mods here said that we shouldn't crosspost discussions from other subreddits until they are at least 24 hours old. So if you're not a feminist, you're deserving of hate? I didn't say that. I said that feminists don't deserve the hate of feminists. They want the same thing, but are too arrogant to see it. oppressingpresent participle of op·press (Verb) Verb: Keep (someone) in subservience and hardship, esp. by the unjust exercise of authority. Boys are violent because we teach them violence in our media and gender roles. The talk exposed many ways we encourage male disposability, and showed how our culture is moving away from physical based jobs and roles, boys are becoming less inspired and succeeding less in everything from school to work. It covered a lot that I can't really sum up in a few words. He has written like 6 books on mens issues, and they are all worth the read.

Mens rights activism along with womens rights activism is not at all exclusive to egalitarianism. Many people, including myself, identify as all three, and do sincerely want equality for all. There are many who believe in equality that find…

Text: TO THE YOUNG WOMEN OF LONDON Is your "Best Boy" wearing Khaki? If not, don't YOU THINK he should be? If he does not think that you and your country are worth fighting for-- do you think he is WORTHY of you? Don't pity the girl who is alone -- her young man is probably a soldier -- fighting for her and her country, and YOU. Aside from the man usually puts on the condom, how is it the man's reproductive choice (and not a woman's)? His partner can see, feel, and taste the condom. His partner can see and hear him putting it on, as well. Arguably you can even smell some condoms. If his partner is willing to use any of their senses, they can check if a condom is being used, and deny consent if their desires for or against the use of a condom are not met. Condom's are the choice of both parties. The men/penetrators can c…

I was definitely displeased to not see a hint towards physical violence/abuse, but this is still a major step forward. So many men are lacking the realization that they can be victims at all due to a life of being told that women and children are victims, and men are the either the monsters that attack them or the heroes that save them from said monsters. This might look like not a big deal, but for many men, it is mind-blowing, and can open the internal discussion, and open them up a bit more t…

That's why I'm here too :3 Too many times have I heard my male friends say "I do respect women equally! I treat them so much better than men!" It's deserving nothing short of a facepalm. this is an issue only very loosely related to men's rights. To be fair, there are more male prostitutes than you probably have any realization of. Also important is that many, many boys are involved in sex slave trades all over the world, and they are largely ignored. I've heard stats around 40% of child prostitutes are boys. Proper regulation of the sex trades could help both men and women, boys and girls everywhere.

I think that it's important to draw attention to the male-female doctor example, since work pattern "choices" like these offer a huge contribution to the wage gap. Working overtime, on weekends, at night, as well as travelling great distances all greatly boost many men's pay, while women don't tend to make those sacrifices as often. Those differences don't translate linearly. For example someone working 45 hours/week gets a lot more than 10 hours of pay greater than someone working 35 hours per …

it is possible to be anti-feminist and still believe in equal rights for women. The point of view is called "egalitarianism", and it is something of which I am a proponent. I am anti-feminist, but I am not anti-woman. This is by far the most important distinction that has to be made. Assuming your "debate partner" has the will to read through your email, and take it seriously, this line may have opened their eyes to a less black and white world. Of course, there is a difference between a man having trouble finding work on the open job market, and being disallowed from learning the skills to even place himself on the market. If he wants to pay his hard-earned money to start a career in a field he might have difficulty in, that's completely his right. Yay for silicone-based lubricants! Oil-based ones are also waterproof, but I'm pretty sure they can degrade condoms.

Well, if you ever take a walk down that isle, check out all the different kinds. There are quite a selection. However I would like to point out that grocery store/drug store/convenience store condoms are usually pretty low grade, and to get decent ones that are dependable and have more body-safe lubes, check out sex stores instead.

Hey, that's not what I'm saying at all. I don't have to defend the position that every woman is equally as logically focussed as every man. What I'm saying is that it's wrong to take the gaps that do exist - and apply them to every single member of each sex in a general fashion - then exaggerate them to the extreme notion that ALL logic is lost to women and an attempt at a logical argument is going to reduce the potential outcome to an absolute 0. (or at the very least, a result that is worthles…

Men and women are different in many ways, for sure, but until you can show me that "using logic" on any woman is a wasted effort, then I am going to keep defending women en masse - as I would defend any collection of people. However it is not just about defending. Holding women to standards of reason is simply fair. Taking that away absolves them of their autonomy and responsibility for their actions, which is exactly what many of us are trying to fight when we advocate for women earning the sam…

Judging anyone based on their sex in a "general" way is practically the definition of sexism. We have many logical women fighting for our cause, and accusing me of being a white knight just because I'm not misogynistic is pretty childish.

I think GirlWritesWhat's comment is extremely reasonable. Becoming a victim, or fear of becoming a victim does not absolve you of all agency. You can't just go through life without judging risks and blaming all that happens to you on society. Yes, in a better world, none of this would happen, but we all know for a fact we live in a horrible world.

Yup, that's how you feel. Other people would feel the exact opposite. I would shell out thousands of dollars to save me from a beating, let alone multiple. Changing the offence for the example introduces subjectivity into the issue. People can get caught up arguing which is worse, but really that's irrelevant.
/r/MensRights08/09/12 01:29 AM
5

Hey, I knew what you were trying to say, I was just suggesting you realize what you're writing. People instantly saying "that's not okay" to one thing doesn't always mean they'll agree with your point. In fact, creating a difference like this adds space for subjectivity, and can possibly make the original offence look not-as-bad in comparison. It also creates some more room for "He probably did that, and that's why she did what she did. Good on her."
/r/MensRights07/09/12 08:30 PM
16

I just want to point out that beating someone is not an equivalent crime to destroying property. To do the "reverse the genders" to make a comparison, don't go and change the offence. Your example subtly implies that men can't break shit and women can't beat their husbands. Those ideas are the reason I'm in /r/mensrights/ and other gender issues subreddits.

Well, the report does not cover men who are penetrated against their will, or women who are made to penetrate against their will. I estimate that a great and terrible number should come with the first, and the second will be a thankfully shy. While we don't have the stats, possibly because the researchers don't seem to think males can be the victims of rape, or at least find it important, I think it's safe to say there is not parity in victimization - as the study puts it, women are disproportio…

No. It's disgusting so many people press that a mammary gland is the equivalent to the entirety of male genitalia. Removal of the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries would be much closer to the removal of the penis and testes.

This is a pretty messed up question. It is purely based on personal experience, and we all know there are many more children of single mother than children of single fathers around. Even though I was raised by my [sexist, racist, homophobic, etc.] mother alone, I'm not sure if I would be able to answer that I would rather have not known her, because that would have changed my entire life, and I would be a completely different person. It's something I can't even comprehend.

Abortion involves the woman's body, therefore it's her choice. Circumcision involves the baby boy's body, so as far as I'm concerned it's no one's choice but his as to whether or not he should be circumsized, so it shouldn't be done unless he chooses to undergo that procedure as an adult. That's my opinion on the issue.

Hm. I do understand what you're saying. A dictionary should indeed describe the words we use based on how we used them. The words we use are biased based on our own biases, and that is not the fault of the dictionary. I am opposed to the idea of a women's only rape centre. Think about this from a racial standpoint rather than a sexual one. Someone gets beaten by a person of a different skin colour (let's go with black) They become scared of black people, so they are placed in a community where there are no black people - no black victims, and no black volunteers or workers - there are no black positive role models Everyone else in the community has also been hurt by black people Every person in the community …

She really downplays the issue at the end there, and it takes away from her entire rebuttal. The moment you start treating games as social commentary, then you forget what they actually are - mindless entertainment. The same could be said of movies, novels, sitcoms, etc. It's a total cop-out. It's childish to think that just because you enjoy the medium that you should blind yourself to the deeper issues. This author seems to think that circumcision is important to a Jewish male, because if he is not "marked as being Jewish", then he will not be accepted into the community as a Jewish male. I think it's ridiculous that a parent would have any right to decide what religion their child should follow, let alone permanently alter their body to follow that religion's customs. Would they be all for tattooing their child's penis with text that says "I'm a Jew, and always will be"?

All I could hear about after that story was that her long-distance online boyfriend may have wanted to see it done. It's offensive to men that all societal blame would fall on him. Hopefully, one day, they will realise they are one and the same. As long as women are held as victims, men will be held as aggressors. As long as women are held as special, men will be held as expendable. As long as women are held as weak, men will be held as strong. Ending misogyny goes hand in hand with ending misandry, and the childish notion "I do respect women! I respect women even more than men!" is helping no one in the long run.

In Canada it's legal to have videos of yourself and your partners doing sexual acts, as long as it was legal and consensual. It better not exclude trans male rights! All males should be covered. In fact, you'll likely find that many male rights activists are egalitarian, and care about trans womens rights as well, and of course cis womens rights.
/r/MensRights07/05/12 02:07 PM

Even one (unnecessary) circumcision is indeed too much! Don't worry, I'm on your side there :P The ideal rates of this practice should be equal to the rate of the cases where it is needed, probably 1 in a few hundred thousand boys.
/r/MensRights01/05/12 09:05 PM
1

Yup, and I understand that, it's just that the title says that over half the boys in the world are mutilated. In order to have an argument with facts, you should give the correct facts. It would be horrible to misrepresent the issue, because when someone honestly interested in the matter finds out the numbers were false, they can lose sympathy.

I think you'll find that in the relatively civilized countries, it is simply not done. Countries still bent on religion and whatnot practice it regularly, however. http://www.spaceandculture.org/2009/03/27/the-world-circumcised/

"TAKE MY BLOOD"
/r/MensRights23/04/12 12:15 AM

Yes. Similarly, it bothers me that in the grocery industry, women are usually in cash, and men are usually in stock. The women that aren't in cash are working in produce, and the men that aren't working in stock are in the butcher shop. Of course, my experiences come purely from a small backwater town... does anyone else have similar anecdotal "proof" of this pattern?
/r/MensRights23/04/12 12:10 AM
15

The article also says that women disproportionately die of heart problems. You know why? Because that's what is likely to get you at old age! Women are no more likely to be the target of these ailments... in fact the numbers are biased because men disproportionately die earlier of other causes! Every time I see that argument made somewhere, I have to point out its flaws.
/r/MensRights23/04/12 12:06 AM

What? That's horrible! Well at least we can look at the bright side. There are 50% that live longer than the median age! 50% seems low to me. Lets work really hard, and get it to 100%! derp :P

18 years is long enough, apparently. The kid will be free to do what he or she wishes. Of course, that's 18 years of being raised by this mother, so who knows what the kid would feel about their parents....

Absolutely. I could go even further than that. They should be able to sue her for custody of the child, too. Their biology went into this, not hers... If she can sue for child support solely on biology, then that is a valid position. Edit: derp. It was her egg. Still, it was his sperm! On the matter of biology, it should be still 50/50...

I don't really intend to label all of any group. However, I'm not going to lie to the world to protect someone from their own truth. I judge them on an individual level. If a person is a pedophile, nothing else changes that fact. A priest status really shouldn't make them any more or less of a pedophile, and neither should being a pop star.

/r/MensRights21/04/12 08:25 PM

Let's associate circumcision with pedophilia! It may be a poor debating point, but it's most likely a more powerful message to the average person than any sort of meaningful argument. Let's appeal to their hearts rather than their minds! It'll work!

I could babysit as a teen. It quickly got too hard to find work, presumably due to this stereotype. You know what also bugs me? A few months ago, a woman was caught "teaching sex-ed" to her daughter by raping her. She didn't get in that much trouble by most people, but her boyfriend on the other side of the world was blamed for 'forcing' her to do it. What the hell?
/r/MensRights19/04/12 07:42 AM

You bet. It happened a lot while I was in high school, too. I babysat, and that was the source of a lot of the remarks. They came from people my age, and adults. Teachers were the most shocking.

I'd just like to say that if I'm walking without shoes, there's not a chance I'd be walking in socks. I'll take them off and put them in my pocket, or even trash them before walking in them outside ... especially if it's any sort of wet out there!
/r/MensRights19/04/12 05:59 AM

I agree with what you're saying, but thinking socialization is the "only" reason is completely false. Women, like everyone else, make their own choices. It's called agency. Men are apparently pressured to give up their shoes, and men make the choice to do it. Society isn't completely to blame for this, but if we remove the pressures of society, then the behaviour will change as well. Society pressures, and society conforms. That's the current state. The alternative is to have people not cave in …

From the comments: I certainly don't think that pregnancy-by-deception is kosher, but I don't see how one could pass a law making it illegal. If that were the case, dead beat dads would claim their partner deceived them to get out of child support. If men don't want to produce offspring, they should get sterilized. Let's reverse the roles and tell pregnant rape victims that if they didn't want to get pregnant, they should have had their tubes tied - no matter their age. Edit: Let's not actually …

Dating, no. Getting married? Maybe. Biology isn't the only thing that makes fathers dads, you know. Pick a good partner, don't have sex, or end up in poverty with a child and no help. Holy fuck. Then again, its a shaky and delicate issue. No kidding. I don't think that could ever be expected in law. Advancement is the same as progress and would require change, and even then it's subjective. Yup! Any body modifications should be done at the request of the person who owns the body. There are rare cases that circumcision is necessary for the baby's health, and that is understandable. Though that procedure isn't comparable to the regular extreme extent of it.

I designed it specifically for the father gets his choice directly after. Do you think that the father's choice supersedes hers? If so, she would have to accept his role in the child's life even if he was a rapist or otherwise abusive to her.
/r/MensRights18/03/12 01:58 AM

Important issues that I tried to cover: Under any sort of action that results in pregnancy, the female has equal opportunity and absolute right to choose how to deal with her body until birth. The father should have every right to surrender his relationship to the child, but also can't expect to visit it after - all the same rules as when donating sperm to a bank. If the mother chooses to give the child up for adoption, the father should be notified and adopt the child. After birth, all partners…

From what I understand, they move to bring attention to sexist, racist, and other prejudiced posts and comments and encourage people to criticise those who speak without considering their privilege. While the idea is nice, their definitions of sexism, racism, and privilege are not open to debate, and are very sexist, racist, etc themselves. From my experience there, they are very anti-male, anti-white, anti-straight, etc everything that they deem to be on top. Beyond that, the subreddit is inten…

Sorry, it's just pretty frustrating to be labelled as something you disagree with. I've been "called out" on it a few times now. Any reddit user has the ability to go through my posts and see how I should be judged, but some just find it easier to believe what they've been told without any effort. It's really disheartening to think that a place like this that's trying to aim for equality would go for ad hominem tools so easily.

I reaaally hope you fools don't start ignoring users because they maybe once had a debate on a board that you don't like. I have 18 comment karma on one of the SRS boards for writing something I don't even remember. I'm willing to bet it was something most people here would agree with. Even if I was an active SRS poster, that has absolutely nothing to do with the point of this video, now does it? Making closed-minded judgements like that is idiotic. Learn to think for yourself.

This sort of thinking is very dangerous, and it explains how there is so much sexism out there. If a person murders, then they are a murderer. Until then, they are innocent. If a person murders, it doesn't matter what gender they are - they aren't more or less likely to be a murderer at that point, they're a murderer!

I linked to her source in one of my comments. Apparently that statistic is true, and the definition of rape they used is quite a bit more gender neutral than I expected. However, it doesn't differentiate between rape and attempted rape, and it is purely self-reported. I am an egalitarian as well. Some feminists do want equal rights, and some want nothing but advantages. Those two kinds seem to be the fringes. What I think is most common is this in-between state where they value equality, but they don't really think about it, and are taught that equality is one-sided. Feminism does fight for equality in a lot of ways, it just sadly comes hand in hand with sexism more often than I'd like.

Which is fine by me if they go by their word of wanting to reach gender equality. Hell, that's even fine by me if they admit that they are in it with the goal of female supremacy. At that time, I didn't know it was common for ex-wives to go back to court when a former spouse got married and get an increase in alimony if the new wife added income to the marriage. I also discovered that the lower-earning spouse needed to be supported to the standard of the lifestyle of the marriage -- and that judges could not put an end date to alimony, even for short-term marriages. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy! It kind of reminds me that when you define rape as a penis force-entering into a vagina without consent, it turns out that the vast majority of rapists seem to be male and the vast majority of rape victims seem to be female.

I'm not done reading the article yet but: For example, one woman told me she's afraid of becoming homeless if her ex-husband invokes the new law to stop her alimony payments. She gave up a career in banking to stay at home and raise the couple's child. When that child went off to college, the husband filed for divorce. She is surviving on a modest alimony payment, but under the new law, payments will stop in two years. Having left a profession, she stands no chance at being hired for a well-payi…

because only one side of the dichotomy can be a victim at a time. That is exactly the problem. I was debating with someone over the last 3 days, and I've never wrote so much in my life. In the end, they "refute" my entire argument with an article that claimed exactly that. Advantage and disadvantage are absolutely linear, and women are disadvantaged, so it is therefore impossible for men to ever have a disadvantage.

It is a positive message, but it is sexist by only including males as the possible rapists. It did go out of its way for offering that a male can be the victim of rape, (albeit by a male rapist) which very few people seem to acknowledge. Can we get gender neutral additions to these posters? All we need is more posters to make this inclusive. There are two major points missing here: Males can be the victim of a female rapist. Females can be the victims of a female rapist.

Be suspicious all you want, but change isn't inherently something to look down upon. People want the community to reflect what the community is in their eyes. It's completely understandable. Subreddits are run by the people that make it up, so it should be able to adapt to the needs of the majority.
/r/MensRights03/03/12 09:35 PM

Well I and many others don't want that on our reputation. Ideally, people fighting for womens rights and people fighting for mens rights should not be filled with scorn for eachother. Such a subtitle defines both this movement and the other movement in negative ways. We should be looking toward a brighter future.

[/r/masculism](r/masculism) is a small but growing subreddit. A community to discuss men's rights. We are concerned about ways that men experience sexism, gender discrimination, inequal treatment, double standards, and rigid gender roles in our society. Our goal is to help bring Men's Rights to the mainstream. We want to make the movement big! Men's issues are invisible - too many people don't see that men experience discrimination at all. This needs to change.

Perhaps fighting some parts of feminism is a big part of the cause for mensrights, but it is not the only part. MensRights should be broad and unassuming. Anti-feminism should be assumed only in r/antifeminism.

I find it hilarious how they both seem to think that this is a freedom of speech issue. This is exactly what the occupy movement is fighting. Corporations and institutions are NOT people and should not have the right to "speak up" against the government in this way. If you are against birth control, then don't take it! 60%? The fact that your comment is on the bottom of the page says otherwise. I don't know about you, but I come here to do my part for gender equality and destruction of stereotypes. I very much see gender as a social construct. In different countries, women and men behave differently. That's proof enough. In others, there are third and fourth genders. How can this not be a structure of society?

She's declaring that she will disregard all male's opinion on the matter, and in a public way, which could encourage other females and males to follow her lead. If she said something like "You're (of a certain ethnicity) so you can't say anything about this!" or "You're (of a certain sexuality) so I'm not listening to you!" it would be an issue. Maybe not as intense as what you normally find here, but remember society's views are just a collection of people, this person included.
/r/MensRights02/03/12 05:44 AM

Well the truth is that the average person is about a hundred steps behind anyone who actively thinks about these issues on a daily basis. There has to be a target audience for a message and the message has to be tailored to that audience for the message to work. Ideally, the poster wouldn't have to explain that men specifically are raped, but I'm willing to bet the majority hasn't even thought of the possibility in there entire lives.
/r/MensRights29/02/12 03:03 AM
3

I'm sure they put the "real" there because without it, the average person thinks, "Sure, men can be raped, but they aren't men." It's worded a bit strangely, but the intent is there if you look for it. Sadly that's not the way you want to make a tagline.

Realize that male circumcision in other places is done just as uncleanly. When we fight against male circumcision, we fight against it everywhere. Also realize that the "entire clitoris" is not removed. The majority of the clitoris in inside of the body, both going inwards, surrounding the urethra and also splitting in two, travelling down both inner labia. Well after reading through a hell of a lot of this thing, I found something pretty interesting: Women and men can be perpetrators and/or victims of sexual assault and domestic and family violence, but statistics and research overwhelmingly show that most incidents are perpetrated by men against women and children. I, at least, have absolutely nothing against women. I'm sure that you'll find that the majority of MRAs are non-sexist. That is simply not the issue at all. Our goal is simply to work towards getting equal rights. That includes protection from domestic violence, genital mutilation, etc. We also move to destroy gender stereotypes and sexism. Since feminism is a broadly accepted movement, a lot of us try to piggyback on it, and use its momentum to earn the rights where males deserve them too. The …

OP, this poster is absolutely right. The National Council Plan for Australia to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children is absolutely terrifying. as the name suggests, it gives women almost full ownership of the children, and moves to destroy the father's right to them, despite any relationship they may share it gender-sensitizes laws that are already in place, greatly increasing the protection for women, but virtually erasing the little protection that was already in place for men excl…

Hey, I just want to point out that I posted this video to show that I was mocking this guy, not that I was in support of his claims. He says that sucking a boy's severed penis with the dirtiness of a human mouth rather than new, proper tools is absolutely necessary for the full spiritual effect of the ritual. Seriously.

Unfortunately I'd have to me an american citizen to sign this petition... But I wholly support the cause!

Skyrim does indeed deserve credit for that. I was quite impressed!

You put up very good points! I've made these all in the past. There sheer number of faceless men that get killed is crazy when you really think about it. Male characters are usually expendable and the targets of violence. It's important to realize that there is a sliding scale of objectification, from lego minifigs to Ares in God of War or the main character in the new game Asura's Wrath. The over-the-top masculinity is so intense it almost makes it feel like the objectified joke Lara Croft orig…

Ah, I see. That's understandable.

Ah, cool. I didn't know that was the case. That's a pretty jerkish thing to do. Risking pregnancy, STIs, etc against their will...

That's what they claimed, anyway. I'm pretty sure it counts as the man is a rapist if he has sex without a condom (and the couple isn't married) over there.

Above all else, I want men and women to treat each other as human beings, and for society to acknowledge that we all have the same rights. Yes, and I and many others are right behind you! Keep up the great work~

I think they meant the kind of people that read cosmo are their enemy. At least that's what I'm hoping :P

Yup, I find it disgusting! Call me sensitive, but I'm very offended by all of this. Also: Males -> not capable of being attractive, so their prettiness isn't even called into question

Granted, its one that we have to move past as a civilized society.

Are you speaking out for all males when you say that? Also, are you implying that all women -do- take that sort of thing personally?
/r/MensRights16/01/12 07:08 PM

I find this pretty offensive to men. I don't know what you're talking about.

Did you even read my reply to someone else that posted the same thing? "What the hell, man? This poster isn't against lies and the burden of proof and failing consent laws, this is against the freedom for women to wear what they like without being assaulted. Where are you from -the middle east? Smarten up, for all our sakes." The same applies to you. Open your eyes.

Sweet! It's a hell of a lot of work, so thank you. Keep in mind that I made the survey editable. Be my guest to make any changes!
/r/MensRights15/01/12 07:05 AM

I mean making a new one, because altering the one that is already out really messes with the results.
/r/MensRights15/01/12 06:45 AM

Wow, okay ... I completely understand that. With google docs, I can make a survey that others can edit. Would you like to help me out in making a new one?
/r/MensRights15/01/12 06:33 AM

I totally concede to that. Should I just make them say yes/no, then let them choose their reasons?
/r/MensRights15/01/12 05:38 AM

Heh I was also trying to push their positions to help them look better? Maybe that's the opposite idea of a survey?

Yeah, that was my fault. Due to the nature of google docs I had to make everyone able to edit it to see the resuslts... I'm hoping no one will be a jerk and tamper with the responses.
/r/MensRights15/01/12 05:20 AM

Okay, I'll make a copy and give them the same survey, then we can look at the results.
/r/MensRights15/01/12 05:19 AM

For the male rights issue, I asked "Do you think this is X valid issue?" then if they say no, it asks "Why not?" and it lets them check their reason or come up with their own.

I had -NO- idea /feminisms was a thing. It has more people, too! should I submit the survey to them as well?

Okay as of when I'm posting it, there is only one response. If you want them to give more responses, please follow this link : the survey post on Feminism and upvote it to the top of the subreddit! I want as many results as I can! Please do what you can to help! Please refrain from filling out the survey yourself, unless you also identify as a feminist. I'm going for accuracy here.

I'm barely over 17 years old myself. I can't imagine, all those years of my life that I was able to meet friends, go to school, take walks in nature, this man was held in a hole in the ground because of a lie.

I completely agree with this. What the hell does he think single fathers should do with their daughters? Or single mothers with their sons? Or either parent with intersexed kids!? This kind of thinking only stresses the gender divide...

Anyone who claims that feminism is the solution to men's issues needs to see what's going on in Australia right now. That's all that I have to say...

I'm just glad the resolution was so high. The image was pretty blurry though. My phone does the same thing. It captures huge image files, but it doesn't affect the quality.

No, because that money was supposed to go to the kid. It's (defined as) child support, dude. It can come from her after the biological father pays it to her, if that makes you feel better.

That's the only time it should be acceptable. In fact, that's the only time a lot of instances of physical pain (and pleasure) should ever be given - with consent!
/r/MensRights08/01/12 06:49 AM

Wow, that's extremely terrible! I don't even know if there's anything you could do to fix this. I've only been kicked there squarely once. I somehow took it like a boss, but I can't believe it's something that someone would do to someone, let alone find funny...
/r/MensRights08/01/12 06:30 AM

Hitting males in the groin is a socially acceptable practice that's pushed into our minds when we are kids that not only is it okay, but that it is funny. Remember all those movies, cartoons, etc? It takes a while to recognize the systematic sexism on men's side, but it's there.

So... they can criminalize the natural results of sex, but not when achieved using different methods? Both people might as well claim they had sex, then. There's nothing the FDA can do about that.
