I live in Toronto. In Toronto, our public transit system is called the 'Toronto Transit Commission' or 'TTC'. In the aforesaid TTC lies a policy; this policy is posted inside the vehicles and on the bus stops. The policy works as follows:

"Women who are travelling alone by bus, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., can take advantage of the TTC’s Request Stop Program. Request Stop allows a female rider to exit the bus at a location between regular TTC stops."

So, in our bus system, safety is being taken care of!... If you are a woman.

If I stay late at my high school at this time of the year, it is very dark when I come home and I feel very uncomfortable walking the streets alone. I have been robbed and threatened with violence in broad daylight... The threat is so much greater when no one is around.

Does your Transit system have any similar policies?
