Toiletries, believe it or not, I forgot all my beard trimming stuff, and basic bathroom stuff at the house when I left.

Man, you are not alone. We were married 10 years and now have been separated since April 9, ‘26. She still talks to my parents, goes to breakfast and all that. Don’t think she goes to their house but the phone calls and breakfast is bad enough. No, you are not being ridiculous

Therapy can be a game changer, I’m am going through my 2nd divorce. Therapy has helped me a lot. I’ve learned how to healthily handle my feelings, handle stress and luckily my therapist has been through a similar situation that I have. You are not alone.

I’ve been separated since April ‘26, I still don’t sleep well. I have sleep meds but they don’t seem to help. Like the OP, I don’t get much sleep. I hate taking prescription medication as much as the next guy. But, give the anxiety meds a solid try. The doctor may get the right dosage or may not, you may have to adjust or even change the meds itself. I take anxiety meds and it helps me a lot, I’m able to focus more and not be freaking out over stuff that I really have no control over. Best of lu…

I’m just 4 months into our divorce, still waiting on judge to sign final papers. I’m 54 and can’t bring myself to even attempt to date or even talk to other women. It just doesn’t feel right. We were only married for 10 years but I still feel like she is a part of me somehow. I don’t know if I will ever date again.

When you get a divorce the kids feel they are being abandoned, at least mine did. Talking to them, prove you will be there for them. Carry on, as much as you can, like you did when married i.e. go to their sports game, gymnastics meet, whatever it is. I tried to make it my kids extracurricular stuff. I would make it a point to raise their spirits as much as I can. My efforts paid off, now they are adults and I have an excellent relationship with them. It will get better, it’s just a fresh raw fe…

You hit a major “must” for those of us divorced and separated. Learning to cook is huge. It’s difficult to live off frozen meals all the time, and not very healthy. I’m cooking more than I ever did while married. There are a lot of prepped meals that just require a little water a few other additions and a few minutes on the stove. I’m no Betty Crocker, never will be, but I can cook well enough to sustain myself.

I am with you OP, I am waiting on the judge to sign off on the divorce, but been separated for 4 months. I’ve never been a social butterfly and now, I wish I were, at least a little bit. Because, other than my adult daughters, I don’t have anyone to talk to. It’s just an empty house with my pets. I have been forcing myself out of the house to go do more things with family and a couple groups I am a member of. It feels good to mingle, but there is that void still there. It bothers me when I see c…

I know that feeling. I am about 3 months into my separation, we were inseparable. Her moving out has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to endure. Additionally she has cut our text communication down to nothing for days. It’s hard as hell. But we must be resilient and keep our chin up.

I’m with you, my marriage was 10 years and she moved out 2 days before our 10th anniversary. The loneliness is real, I am still battling that feeling myself. Plus still being madly in love with her. Things will get better, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Get out amongst folks, with it being summer there are festivals, and stuff like that. Don’t let her leaving keep you down.

I kept some pictures of my ex, kept more nick nacks that she had around the house and she gave to me.

Her name or your name, it shouldn't matter. She (or you) can't make the other leave.

Dating after divorce is very uneasy, awkward feeling. Almost guilty feeling because I am still used to being with my ex. Not really sure if I even want to date.

Both of my daughters, my 6mo grandson and daughters fiancé spent the day at a local festival with a drone and fireworks show to top it off. Definitely a great day

You need to get rid of her. Despite the other stuff, if she is causing you that much mental anguish, she needs to go.

Been exactly where you are and it is a rough patch, but I came out ahead, you can do the same. There is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise.

She gave me the choice between my daughters and her. I chose my daughters.

In the back of my mind, I think there is another reason for the divorce. I think she has a "real" reason, but she is using this argument between my daughter and her as a front or excuse. I can't put my finger on it, at the beginning of this year, something changed with her. She was different, and she acted differently towards me. I seriously doubt it is another person. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

My heart goes out to you, I hate that she is turning to this kind of BS and making the divorce more about her instead of the issue at hand, the end of a relationship. Keep your chin up, man. Don’t let her get you down.

Currently, we are still married; however, the ink on the divorce papers is drying as we speak. We have been separated for about 2 months. I was reluctant to take mine off until I noticed she had already taken her's off. So I guess the answer to the question is about a month after she moved out.

I’ve thought the same, she only used the kids as an excuse.

There was a riff, the kids didn’t like the wife after we were married. The kids say she was mean and verbally abusive. Then the icing on the cake happened end of 2025 when one of them wrote a letter to the wife. The letter was just expressing feelings. But the wife took it wrong and went psycho. Since the letter it was toxic. I tried to get to reconcile but there was none of that. So we had a discussion and I chose my kids.

Thanks. You are 100% right about the last load. I was ok during the loading, but afterwards I was crushed.

Staying together could be just as harmful to the kids as separating and divorcing. The kids come first, but that doesn’t mean you have to be in a situation that is miserable. Do what is best for you and the kids.

With the market the way it is, the house should sell pretty quick, if it’s priced right. If the house is the only thing, count your blessings and call it a day.

I am right there with you. I am about 3 weeks into our separation and it’s really weird the first few nights. But it gets better over time. One thing I do is have some music playing or the tv on, helps me a lot. I’m a huge music lover anyway so it’s a given for me. My daughter told me this - you got to have a flashlight because if you don’t, you can’t find the light at the end of the tunnel. So get your “flashlight” and hold on to it. You’re going to need it. But there always is light at the end…

Daughters and the wife never really had that great of a relationship. The letter was an attempt to tell her without doing a face to face, which may have been worse. I did try to stop the letter from being sent, I held it off for about 2 months but one day my daughter pushed send without me really knowing it.
