I started biking semi-long distance, put a lot of energy into growing my business so I can make it my full time gig and eventually leave my 8-5, I started traveling solo more, being more intentional about time with my female friends, focusing on buying a house and other things I want regardless of if a partner is in my life.

I do this too! I will also get on my phone, act super disinterested in the convo and make him repeat basic things he just told me minutes prior…basically act like a scrote 😂

SAME! My ex would spend ALL DAY Sunday literally from 1-8pm watching football on the red zone which is basically 20 second clips of all the major plays of ALL the games that day because “fantasy football”. It was appalling to me. He wouldn’t even go for a walk with HIS DOG with me if it was even close to 1pm. When I brought this up with our mutual friends (the husband also does fantasy football) he said, bro you can just watch it online or watch the recording.

I definitely resonate with your second paragraph. Do I really not want to get married or have I just not met anyone that I was like YEA MARRIAGE.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/01/22 12:08 AM

Same, OP! I’m also child free so I don’t feel the need to get married. Everyone in my family has basically been divorced so I don’t really see the point in being legally bonded to someone. Marriage does not mean they won’t cheat on you or treat you like shit. I’d rather have a long term partner and if it’s no longer working out then we end things.

He said that I didn’t compliment him enough on his hair cut and that’s why he was texting another girl. Best part! His texts said that he couldn’t come to HER house because his car didn’t have insurance, ya know, not the fact he had a GF or anything 😂

My ex bought me these black knee high boots that I ended up not getting myself because they were too expensive. I found another style cheaper elsewhere the very next day - WEEKS before Christmas and wore them constantly. So when I opened another pair of knee high black boots I was a little thrown off. It was the only thing he got me and at the time I had mentioned several other things I wanted like a hydro flask. I didn’t have a fire stick at the time but he did and kept saying how I needed one …

I’m conflicted on this because I absolutely love cooking and I love those little cooking gadgets you find at homegoods or tj maxx. I had an ex buy me this really big wooden cutting board that had cacti etched into the wood and I loved it especially bc I needed a new one.

Pets are such a huge deal! I dated two men who were very bad dog dads 🚩The first one would never take his dog on walks and I was always the one to initiate taking her out or doing stuff with her. My other exes dog was a super reactive-fearful aggressive 70lb female German shepherd, who desperately needed REAL professional training with mental stimulation. When I brought this up he did not believe me. I was not able to trust his dog with my cat because of how he viewed her behavior as a non issue…

He is so LV. I was fuming when he got mad at Issa for what Lawrence did, then he completely shut down when dropping her off and just ghosted her, THEN, to show up weeks later at her birthday party to clear the air? Hell no!

YUP, my ex had a car but refused to get it fixed and it sat in our complex parking lot for 8 MONTHS!! I had to do everything that involved the car and he has the audacity to criticize my driving. I would respond back “feel free to use your car and you can drive” UGH what was I thinking!!

It is the best feeling going into the grocery store and not having to look at the price for an item. I have worked so hard to feel this type of financial security.

I feel the same way. I dated a guy recently who had a roommate for the first 4ish months of our rship and I felt no privacy over there. He was helping his friend temporarily out so I knew when it would end and that’s why I continued dating him but in general I’m not a fan of roomies.

He walked in on me masturbating under the covers and told me how disgusting I was. He also told me a I was fat and ugly. I just looked at him and said “I’ll never be good enough for you, I’m done, move out.” I ended up breaking my arm days later and he bailed on me for my surgery, he called me after the surgery to talk about his friend. That was the end of that.

One time I asked my ex LVM to do me a “favor” so I could get some house chores done before my friend came to visit. The favor? Him cooking dinner…from a prepared food box (like hellofresh) he grumbled so much that I said “I would and I’ve done it for you!” And he said “you don’t have to guilt trip me” I was like “well I wouldn’t have to guilt trip you if your reaction was more supportive and less inconvenienced.” And then he wondered why I would never ask him to do things for me. If that is some…

I asked my ex if he could “do me a favor” by cooking us dinner while I vacuumed, finished laundry etc before my friend came for a weekend visit. He grumbled so fucking about it and when I said “what? I’ve done it for you so many times!” He said, you don’t have to guilt me. Ok?? So why was your gut/immediate response to grumble and get annoyed then? HVM men don’t need to be begged into helping.

I broke up with my ex this week, you can see my previous post history for more info. It’s been 2 days since we broke up and he’s like “living his best life”, posting on social media how he’s gonna be traveling to Vegas and don’t have regrets in life. I know he’s just trying to make me jealous and second guess my decision but it’s so extra and petty.

Thank you for this! I think what I’m struggling with is that he doesn’t have a typical job anymore because of COVID. He was in the middle of buying a business when COVID happened and the owner backed out. It was a restaurant he spent the last 5 years managing and saving for with the intention of owning it - the agreement between him and owner. He is still looking for a business to buy and/or invest in. So now he’s doing stock investments and started doing resale of limited edition shoes. Obvious…

I’ve learned through FDS that not everyone deserves your energy. My ex depleted my energy because I gave and gave and gave. I have not cooked for a man since then - unless you count heating up leftovers 🤣 in fact, one guy I’m seeing even took out MY trash. Save your energy for those who show you they deserve to have access to you 👑

So I know FDS has taught me a lot of value in vetting a guy 6 months to a year, except FDS also says that after a year or so you should be on the way to marriage. I recently noticed this timeline so I am genuinely unsure/confused if the marriage-move in talk should be happening at the year mark if you need to vet for 6months to a year, it doesn’t feel like enough time has passed between vetting and then serious commitment like marriage. Hopefully that makes sense.

Love is not enough. Respect, effort, understanding, honesty, communication are what’s important. You can love someone all you want, but do they deserve your love? Are they doing things that warrant your love? It can’t all revolve around “love.”

I never understand this logic? That we aren’t feminist or we’re XYZ. Is having standards being anti-feminist? Does that mean the women who fought for our rights to vote aren’t feminists? That was their standard for their LIVES, to be able to vote and have a voice. Me wanting a guy who treats me with respect, is loving/caring, makes effort, doesn’t cheat/use me, isn’t anti-feminist. I do agree with this, but how does that factor if I was the one who asked him out? I still think he should have paid even if I asked him out because I still spent that time getting ready and not to mention I had to pick the place with no assistance from him, he couldn’t even say what part of town he wanted to meet.

While in line I was going back and forth about saying anything about paying because I was like maybe I should just pay for his stupid ice cream, but then I was like no, I can tell he’s trying to get me to cover it and I’m not down with that. I realize my comment does come off a bit passive aggressive, I just wanted it to be clear he didn’t have to “worry” about paying for my ice cream 😂

Yeah I actually don’t take her advice often because she’s only been in 2 serious rships (8 years and now 4/married) she has never really dated because most of her dating years were spent in her 8 year rship. I’ve been on hundreds of dates, I think I have the most representative sample of guys and experience 😂 I actually thought she would find it funny and cheap like my cousin did. I’m definitely not pressed for a free meal! Plenty of times I’ve ordered take out for myself!! And I meal prep weekly. She just kept referring to it’s the 21st century and that if I was having a good time then why does it matter I should just split it. I told her, the fact that this really has never happened to me shows that this is uncommon and weird. I’m not into it. I appreciate when my MAN takes me out to dinner. Honestly, it’s hard to “defend” the equality comments. Because I clearly do believe in equality and equity, but to me this is a date! It’s the gentlemanly thing to do especially in the beginning of courtship. It made him come off cheap and unattractive. I planned this date as well! Like contribute somehow?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy29/11/20 04:32 PM
32

Yeah I don’t NEED a man to sustain me with dinners. I meal prep and I have a job, yes I could have easily provided the $20-25 to split with him but men really don’t provide shit and taking me out and paying for dinner is the bare minimum. If this is how it is after 3 dates what will it be like down the road? Is he gonna make me split anniversary gifts too?

If it’s one thing FDS taught me is, a LVM man is the easiest thing to get, truly, I could easily text 10 guys in my phone and they’d want to be with me - and that’s not even on some cocky shit - they are LOW VALUE - why would I want a guy who puts no effort in, doesn’t take initiative, holds sexist views or acts like a jackass? Agree. I actually enjoy playing video games with my partner because I like playing video games. I’ve always been a gamer girl with RPGs and now recently with FPS. I like working through challenges and completing missions and cooperating with my partner. For example, my sister and her fiancé play and there is a lot of yelling and arguing. When me and my ex would play we worked together, actually made a pretty good team and ironically he communicated. Too bad he couldn’t do that in other parts of …

I wish I could find the cute video of the guy picking up his girlfriend who caught the flowers and being happy. Kind of sad that there’s so many videos of men running or freaking out and there’s probably only one video of the man being happy

Seriously the “don’t take yourself too seriously” always boggles my mind what does that even mean exactly by saying that? It’s so fucking bizarre. Like yeah I take myself seriously I take pride in who I am and my goals in life and furthering those goals. I don’t get it.

Ex spent every Sunday from 1-8pm watching sPoRtZ. Wouldn’t even go on a walk with me and HIS dog between 12:30-1:30 because he would miss sPoRtZ time. Sometimes when he would kiss me he would say “yum, make up.” Told me I didn’t season my food enough in front of his sister. Would call me out in front of friends and family about smoking weed - even though they already know and most of them smoke as well. Sounds like my ex. His ex before me was controlling, mean, abusive, treated him horribly and ultimately cheated on him with his friend for 6+ months while they were engaged (this info came from people who knew her and him for 4+ years). Here I am, loving, caring, sweet, kind, nurturing, ambitious, loyal, fam/friends love me - the works and he didn’t see me as someone he could be with long term. Whack ass - guess his ex was more his type.

I saw this episode after me and my ex narc broke up and it really helped me to see the truth. Wanda is an amazing character and has some really good truth bombs for BoJack.

thank you for posting this and thank you for the reminder. My ex has made me feel so irrelevant and so replaceable. He made me feel not good enough during our relationship because he didn’t put enough effort in towards the end and through the whole break up he’s made me feel as if I never existed and then I never mattered. I am working so hard to bring back my radiant spirit and dignity.

Saving! 💕 after a year with my ex he started to do bare minimum effort. We’d go all day without speaking sometimes. I cOmMuNiCaTeD and he told me he would do better. 4 days later he broke up with me. He was great in the beginning but only because he was excited to have me but had no intentions of working to keep me. Piggy backing off #9; women are so much more interesting than men. They can hold conversations better and switch between a multitude of topics with a wide range of depth. Talking to most men, is like talking to a potato. They lack depth.

Anything I expect of myself, I expect of a partner. Whether that is having a good job, car or place all the way to communicating, being affectionate, loving caring and considerate. I never understand where they get off saying FDS is not genuine or shameful or whatever else they come up with. If anything I see women here posting about how they want to make the rships work with their scrotes but have just completely hit a wall and don’t know what to do. Literally begging for the bare minimum effort. Women try for so fucking long and give so many excuses for LVM behavior. We try to be understanding but everyone has a breaking point. FDS just helps you realize it sooner.

3 years with my ex narc. We were having so many problems at the end including sex or severe lack thereof. He told me I was fat and didn’t have a good body, I’m embarrassed to say that didn’t even make me leave. What was the final straw was when I wanted to get intimate, he didn’t. So I went into the bedroom and started masturbating. Under the covers, door shut. He came in and tried to lay down with me so I acted like I was scratching my leg and stopped. He got up, and started saying how disgusti…

This is truly amazing. Thank you for writing this. I really feel like this is my ex. Especially acting like an asshole. I feel like he wanted me to break up with him so he could play victim, but I held on bc I loved him, explaining how his behavior hurts me. He knew I wasn’t going to end it but he wasn’t willing to put effort into our rship, so he ultimately broke up with me in the most cowardly way possible. It’s true, he’s such an insecure person. You need to be more firm in your exit strategy. My exit strategy is always “I actually have plans with my GF after this” or “I actually really have to run some errands”. IMO, I think this was too much for a first date, I would have just stuck with one of the options.

Wow that is honestly so sad about your co worker. It just reeks desperation. As for the last half of your post, I totally agree. They should be focused on their kids not dating apps, but they want to find a replacement mommy ASAP so they can get the same deal as your co worker. Someone here also mentioned that they want you to become invested and bonded to the child so it’s harder to leave and I agree with that too.

Thanks girl. My breakup was blindsighting and I have been struggling so bad to understand if he was LVM, NVM, HVM. I joined this sub and I believe he is a LVM based on what he did. But I see all the trash on dating apps and all these horror stories and it makes me believe he was a HVM and that I miss out on something great, even though he broke up with me. I learn everyday from this sub to be better and recognize I deserve better. It is a process though. Healing isn’t linear fo shoooo.

My ex would make subtle comments about my make up. Like after he kissed me on my cheek he would be like “yum make up” - not that it matters but I don’t even wear that much make up. He would also comment on my acne - my acne started changing to adult cyst recently. I noticed he would make comments to his sister too, pointing out her eyebrows or something. He was so judgemental in other ways too. Meanwhile, he was 5’7, clef palette and a bit overweight.

One time he told his sister in front of me that I don’t season my food enough. It really starts an internal complex thinking what you really enjoy doing isn’t up to par/standards.

I used to cook all the time with my ex. One time he told his sister, in front of me, that I don’t season my food well enough. I said, “well feel free to make us dinner whenever you’d like - other than stir fry and steaks.” Bitch.

My most recent ex crushed me. I don’t know what was lies or truth. I honestly don’t know if I could ever love someone so fully again. I gave it all and he just threw it in my face. I can’t go through that again.

I really struggle with this - I don’t feel like I look like other women I would consider beautiful or successful. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it’s really difficult to not compare myself to them. Comparison is the thief of happiness, ugh.

I guess I wouldn’t really consider it a date, it’s more of a, “let me even see if I want to see you a second time” type of thing so I’m not wasting my time on a lame ass dinner date with the person. I would say it’s me, not the guy offering. I have dinner offers but I usually recommend something more simpler. I’ve been in countless horrible dates involving dinner or something more extravagant. I have done them in public places like our downtown area and have felt safe but that’s just my own pers…

I know this is probably against the FDS way but I like park/walk/coffee dates. I actually prefer it because I can have more of a conversation with them to spot any red flags. Plus I can easily get out of one if I know the vibe is not right. I feel more in control with those types of meet ups. I can usually tell within 15-30 minutes if I’m interested in seeing someone again. Then I expect actual dates.

This is so fucking disgusting. Not everyone has had the same opportunities and yes most of us have student debt. Shocker. It’s disgusting that a LVM like this has no ounce of empathy or sympathy for a future partner that comes with debt. Well guess what buddy, you come with sweaty, gross, hairy balls.

Forgive yourself! Don’t be so hard on yourself either. If this was your friend, what would you say to her? Probably “he ain’t shit” “he doesn’t deserve you” “be kind to yourself” - you are always going to be your best friend and #1 fan!

Girl, I totally feel this. While I was only with mine for about a year - I was a kind, loving, dependable and consistent GF. Cooked, cleaned, took care of his dog. Everything. Regardless I got dumped too, because I wanted more effort, more initiative, to feel wanted. Everything over the last year meant nothing and he chalked it up to a “compatibility issue.” Oh I’m sorry I guess we aren’t compatible anymore bc I wanted more. 4 days before he broke up with me he was saying he loved me and was com…

Agree. My non-negotiables for dating are 1. I do not message first 2. I do not ask the guy on a date. I’m committed to finding someone who takes initiative and puts forth the effort first. I don’t want to date a guy who will not do that bare minimum - if that’s not how the guy is naturally then I don’t want him.

I have never won being a pickmeisha - I’m in recovery tho from being apart of FDS. It has ALWAYS bit me in the ass. Did everything for my ex and he still dumped me thinking the grass is greener on the other side. It feels like shit, but never again will I be that girl. I am the prize.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/05/20 03:43 PM

Kinda like being broken up with 4 days after being told “I love you, I’m committed to you, I can communicate better.” Actions not words! Words mean shit.

I wasn’t cheated so this isn’t exactly the same but I was left abruptly/completely blindsided. I keep thinking my ex will move on and find someone so great, since he was back on the apps in no time but he’s just going to find another person who has issues (we all do) and that no person is perfect. He’s in for a rude awakening.

He broke up with me 4 days later. Good riddance prick. Reminds me of the quote “If having a conversation about expectations, standards or communication with your partner ends your relationship then it wasn’t that strong to begin with.”
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy22/05/20 11:06 PM

Since when do women only judge based on looks? My ex had a clef palette, was chubby and short - his personality and vibe was what drew me in (he ended up being a LVM and dumped me tho so fuck him). I feel like women overlook looks A LOT bc we realize that personality and compatibility are just as important. Also have you seen those comparisons of beautiful girls with ugly dudes? Yeah, no, looks is something we definitely cast aside, but we should be more picky about looks - just like men!

I really wanna hear more HVM stories as well. It’s really depressing and hopeless to see/hear about LVM. I keep thinking I should have just compromised with my exes flaws so I didn’t have to deal with all these LVM/dating again. It feels hopeless to find a decent partner.

Ugh fuck, that sucks. I’m sorry sis. Our exes sound similar. Ironically I never once kept him from friends or doing his own thing but he still craved that independence. You’re right - why be with someone if you’re so damn independent. I’m independent too (whoopdy-doo) but I’m not so afraid of losing it because I know it will always be there. I just prefer to spend time with ya know...my partner...kinda the bare minimum.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/05/20 07:35 PM

For real. Even though my ex told me he loved me first, every time after that was like pulling teeth. I want someone who is all about me god damnit! AND shows it!

Not exactly similar (no vomiting) but on my birthday night my ex ended up getting wasted and I had to put him to bed too.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/05/20 04:54 PM
5

Yeah this is definitely relatable. I keep wondering if my ex was a true LVM - compared to the horror stories here he was a freaking gem. I feel like he’s just going to treat his next gf so wonderfully, communicate with her and let himself love deeply.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/05/20 04:48 PM
11

This is kinda what I struggle with. My ex, who I think is an LVM, has a very take it or leave it mentality. He doesn’t “need” anyone. He values his independence over anything else. In fact, I’ve never been with someone who is so afraid to “losing” their independence. Looking back on our breakup it feels like he was emotionally unavailable and unwilling to commit. The moment I asked for more effort, he bailed on me 4 days later.

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/05/20 04:34 PM

Honestly, I’m so glad you posted this. I’m tired of being called co-dependent when I’m only expecting the bare minimum out of a partner. I can be quite pickme, but I do things for people I love and care about. It pisses me off that everything has to be related back to co-dependency. I have a life, I do my own shit and I’m happy, but I prefer to be with a partner to share experiences with.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/05/20 04:32 PM
12

Why do guys think bitch is even offensive anymore? It’s been said/called so many times it’s lost it’s effect. Come up with something new, you’re boring me LVM.

Sis is fire. My closet is bigger than your apt 😂
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/05/20 04:27 PM

Completely agree. Historically I have never put my needs first. This was the first time I was saying what I wanted, more effort from him and to move in together. I am proud for doing that bc in the past I would accept bread crumbs.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy18/05/20 05:41 PM
9

That’s what I came to say! They can’t live without a woman taking care of them or being truly single so the idea that someone could be happy without a man just boggles their little LVM brain.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy18/05/20 05:10 PM
8

Ironic that they expect us to give our time to them but as sooooon as we expect a similar crumb in return they bail.

I (28F) was with my ex (30m) for almost a year. I wanted to move in (well I thought we both wanted to) at which time it would have been over a year together. When he asked me why we should move in I said that I wanted to grow together and take the next step for our rship and obv I loved him. I also wanted to know I wasn’t wasting my time. I’m not old and I’ve never been one to have the “oh I’m gonna be 30” blues but what woman wants to sit around waiting for some guy to come around? What if I ha…

Same. My ex and I used to split - he paid most of the time because he made more than me, but sometimes I’d cover here and there. However, one time we were running errands and he suggested we go grab a beer. I said “sure no problem but if we do, then it’s on you.” (I didn’t feel like spending money.) He decided we weren’t gonna go hahah.

My LVM ex use to critic me on make up. I don’t even wear that much - don’t contour and I’m not very good at eye shadow so just wisp it on (kudos to the women who can do that). Sometimes after he would kiss me he’d be like “oh yum...make up” - men really know nothing about make up. They think a natural look doesn’t consist of any make up.

Same girl. At first I was like I’m not a pickme, now I realized I’ve always been a pickme. Doing everything for a boyfriend in hopes they’ll see value in me and choose me. Yes, realizing I was a total pickme in my last rship. Literally did everything! I told myself I didn’t mind bc I loved him and was happy to do all these things, which some of that is true bc I do enjoy doing things for people I love and care about, but the moment it came time for him to step up and do some effort for me, he bailed. Oh my godddd that last paragraph is fire. This all makes so much sense! My recent ex made me feel like I was I inferior to him, as if I also didn’t have a lot going for me. I’m on the god damn news presenting to City Council on homelessness, I’m being recognized as a “woman to watch” in our local magazine - yet he made me feel like he was so much better than me in every way, even when I would beat him in games! I feel those are traits that would have manifested into my ex as well if we had stayed together. He was always receptive to my feelings when I would bring up issues up and be open to changing and there were even times he did actually change behavior. Yet when I asked for more effort and initiative, it lasted for 4 days and then he broke up with me. I always had to connect the dots for him - it felt like explaining things to a brick wall. Jeez how unfair is that? Men are most likely blaming women (blaming others) while women are also blaming themselves. It’s like a double whammy of blaming on women. It’s bullshit.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy13/05/20 05:09 PM

I love that mentality bc it really shifts the focus and power. I guess I’m realIzing I’m a real pickme - believing if I showed all the good things I bring to the table I’d be chosen. It’s a hard mentality to break.

Thanks for this post. I’ve been struggling lately because my ex seemed like a HVM (or at least medium) compared to some of the horror stories I’m seeing on here. After almost a year together he really turned out to be a LVM. He was still not as toxic as some of these other ones but he couldn’t communicate, is selfish, his way or the highway, stubborn, resistant, lazy and judgmental. I don’t know how I could have done things differently or vetted him better.

Don’t settle for a crusty moldy hotdog. But honestly I get it. When I was with my ex I was like “yessss no more dating, so happy I found my person, dating sucks!” blah blah blah. Now that I’m single it still sucks. Sorry I don’t have any good advice, but know that you ain’t alone girl!

I honestly do think it’s weird when guys explicitly state comments like this on their profiles. It’s almost like if you have to explicitly state it, is it even true? My ex even wrote “I only invest in people I truly want to know for a long time.” Like no shit???? No one wants to invest in someone who won’t be around????? tha fuccck.

I love how OP brought up the love languages. I’ve never thought of it that way but it makes a lot of sense, he would be showing her his love language by doing something but literally he’s not doing anything. His love language is lazy AF.

Found FDS after my ex broke up with me. It’s been a real struggle bc I was totally blindsided and then I found his dating profile where he is basically lying about who he is (can see a full post of my comment history). I love the positive comments and seeing so many women thriving and standing up for what they deserve out of a rship. I have been trying to focus on that myself. Cooked, cleaned, took care of his dog, BJs all the time, love, affection, etc. I was trying to show him that I’m worth it, that I’m a good woman he should want to be with. YEP. My ex has a clef palette that I knew he was insecure about. I always tried to make him feel confident and secure by giving him affection, PDA, telling him he was so handsome, sexy etc. Of course I meant everything at the time bc I loved him but he let his insecurities and fear drive his decision to break up with me and treat me like dirt. It completely bit me in the ass.

My ex actually has on his dating profile his strength is communication. This is the same boy who told me 4 days before breaking up with me that he loved and was committed to me. And the same boy who laughed at me saying I was just trying to start a fight. Great communication skills brooooo.
