The best thing I've learned in dealing with this, is simply saying 'thank you.' And then leave a pause. Either let them continue the conversation elsewhere, or bring up conversation yourself. Simply accepting a compliment shows a lot of confidence, and it is interesting how a simple 'thank you' really throws people off

Absolutely a big part I think. It's early so I forgot to include all the details. Before approaching, I had certainly picked up initial IOIs from her. I have only met the friend once before, and it is possible she is flirting with me. It is also possible she is acting as a spy, but I was careful in speaking to her to disqualify this scenario, and feel fairly confident she isn't doing the spy thing. Just because she isn't into you know doesnt mean its over. In the present you need to move on, flirt with other girls.
