Exactly my experience, too. Just last week I told my mother I couldn't watch the latest iteration because it dawned on me not so long ago that watching SATC during my mid adolescent years really shaped the dysfunctional attitudes towards sex and relationships that caused me so much grief in my late teens/early twenties.

Yep. Vetted a colleague online who was making overtures. Had in his FB interests 'bimbos'. That told me all I needed to know about him and I ignored him thereafter. We were both doing PhDs at the time so I'm certainly no bimbo, plus it's disgusting for any man to think he can judge women in that way.

Correct for the most part in my experience of studying philosophy to PhD level. However, it tends to be data free sub-disciplines, such as epistemology and ethics. I'm a dual philosopher and psychologist and find male philosophers who actually work with the empirical sciences much more intellectually mature and humble about the limitations of their methodology. I could be biased though, as my aversion to more traditional philosophy was mostly down to often being the only woman around the philoso…

Well, he isn't even a philosopher. He has an MS.c in product management. I see this all the time, as an actual philosopher with a doctorate and actively publishing in the discipline. He's a fraud all the way down

I used to think I wanted prospective partners to be educated to the same level as me (I'm a PhD). But no, they're just the worst Jordan Peterson fanboys and LVMs I've ever met. Intellectual curiosity and openness, ambition, commitment are much more important irrespective of career/education.

Reminds me of the scrote who was also my first sexual experience. He scrutinised my body to the nth degree, despite the fact he was overweight, severe overbite, bad hygiene and PIED. Well before my FDS days, as you can tell.

Gross. I remember watching a Witcher interview with Cavill, Allen and the actress who plays Yennifer. I watched it specifically to hear her as I was amazed by her portrayal of this character and every time she spoke he was looking at her so dismissively, when it was clear she’s new to interviewing and seemed nervous. But she clearly understood her character and had a deep appreciation for her. I was so pissed by this, as when Allen spoke he looked at her with this creepy adoring gaze. Then later…

Funny, I feel the exact same about him. I first saw him in Jurassic World and since then I just have this ‘off’ feeling when I’ve seen him ever since. I also remember his ex- wife making a suggestive dig at him for not having her back around the time of their break up, insinuating he wasn’t fully supportive of her when their young son was going through treatments for congenital illness.

I’ve seen loads of malebeards on Twitter saying they’re feminists because why wouldn’t they be? Feminism is about supporting the rights of everyone. Er no, it’s in the name sunshine. Feminism is for biological women, not everyone. They’re also the first to preach and police what womanhood is to women. The audacity...I remember o e guy telling a woman she should take a gender studies class, like he was doing, to better understand womanhood. She was like “I am a woman, so why the f*** would I need…

I know, right. What they don’t realise is that once a woman gets to that level she’s beyond caring about the opinions of men, who by and large are incomparable intellectually, emotionally and behaviourally. There were guys in my research group in their 40s who behaved like toddlers when they didn’t get the affirmation they wanted. They looked pathetic. There was a large gulf between my men and women colleagues. The women were generally more supportive and collaborative, whereas the ‘men’ were sn…

Sure thing - I use 200ml low sugar mango juice/300ml water; small cube of ginger; lime juice; handful of fresh mango; 2 large handfuls of spinach (sometimes kale); 2tbsp seeds & tsp MCT oil. It’s honestly so refreshing, so much so I literally crave it in the morning. That’s the only smoothie I have now for the past 7 months as I’ve perfected it to my preferences

Dating: No goals. For two reasons: 1) my mental health is not quite where it needs to be and dating would pull me back; 2) I wouldn’t be good dating material either for this reason. No one needs my shot while I’m getting it together. Habits: Stop ruminating. I’ve been working on getting well again mentally for the past year-and-a-half and intend to carry on for as long as I need to. Rumination about past abuse is still a major hurdle I need to overcome. Keep exercising. I started the walk-jog-wa…

Yep - took me years to learn this lesson. Being desired doesn’t mean you’ll be viewed, respected or treated as a human being and person with distinct traits, wants, needs, insecurities, and everything else. You are the harbinger of his (desired) traits in you and whatever other labels he puts on you like pin the donkey.

I was thinking the same. I’m from a working class Scottish background and swearing is an integral part of our language. We’re infamous for using swear words as terms of endearment! The only people who policed it was my ‘Catholic’ grandparents who would act oh-so-offended when any of their kids and grandkids swore, only they turned out to be monumental hypocrites.

Yeeeeees! Our local authority had women only sessions at our local pool and gym. I only ever used the pool, but the atmosphere was amaazing! I absolutely loved it and felt so much more comfortable knowing my body wasn’t being scanned. I loved the series. I was at high school and it was the talk of the week amongst us girls and our gay male friends. Then the movies came out by the time I was at uni 5 years later and I was horrified. Could not get over the pick me vibes, nor the condescension of Muslim women in the 2nd movie.

What happened to her and Emma Watson (the tabloid countdown until she was “legal”) is despicable. What’s come out about the depravity in Hollywood is only the beginning. The discovery afterward of the fact she signed the letter in favour of Roman Polanski was majorly disappointing, but apparently she has been one of the very few who has retracted and apologised. Thank goodness.

Totally, plus “niceness” has been used as a tool to manipulate women into compliance with men’s expectations of them and tolerate their bullshit since ever. Whenever a guy I’ve turned down then turns around and says I’m not “nice” it’s always meant “not compliant” or “not willing to look past my shitty behaviour”. Every. Single. Effing. Time. Learned this the hard way. I’m the first woman in my family to be university educated and virtually don’t speak to any of my family save for my parents. They absolutely couldn’t stand it that it was a much younger woman of the family got herself educated. And the abuse was primarily from the men.

That is indeed a sad situation where anal sex is so normalised when it’s not pleasurable for women and risks so much internal damage/rupture. And for what? The approval of man children. Makes me so angry. I can somewhat relate to your background. Yep. Many a time they told me, without knowing me, that I was so “sweet and innocent” and “a clever girl”, but it wasn’t a compliment. It was their proclamation that I was naive, vulnerable and not too bright, even though I was way more educated and self-aware than them (not saying education = intelligence), but the disparity in intellect maturity was vast. Gross. Pre lockdown I took my laptop to the main library in my home city to write and my eyes well were and truly opened. So true. I was reading the case files for the Chris Watts case, his mistress was googling ‘how to prepare for anal sex’ and a woman he met on Tinder for a one night stand 6 months before he murdered his wife and daughters told police how he was very aggressive with her, accidentally on purpose sodomised her without her consent, and repeatedly choked and slapped her. She said he ‘carried out a rape fantasy on her’ and it was so obvious by her description that he was porn sick

Not so much a different light; more like wiping the dust off the clouded lens I already viewed men through that was tarnished by years within the higher education system (at least where I live). Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m happy to say I’m well on my way to levelling up 🥳🥳 You’re absolutely right. So much we read about when it comes to narcissism is the charismatic social butterfly. Not this guy - he was a sly introvert and a massive manipulator. I’m aware of that general principle and subscribe to it myself as I’m a philosopher myself, but my comments made in a specific context. Hence why I’m unimpressed. I see this all the time. What I’m saying is I’d be cautious about his comments on feminism because of his past behaviour regarding sexual harassment. Hmm I’d be cautious. He was one of several influential academics who wrote a character reference for a female academic accused of sexual harassment, going as far as insinuating the victim was an attention seeker and liar and using the standing of the academic to argue that it’s therefore impossible for her to have done what she was accused of. You’re right, it’s totally archaic by appealing to age-old gendered stereotypes about how women should appear and behave. It’s so contrived and basically teaches women to suppress themselves and curate a mirage that will appease men. I can sympathise a lot. You’re doing some fine straw manning yourself with your characterisation of basic responsible parenting in terms of “pickmeishaing”. You’re projecting your frustrations on sub members, being dismissive and shaming. Enough. Make your point- but we’re not here to shoulder your attitude problem.

Exactly - there’s nothing “pickmeisha” about taking on and prioritising you’re childs’ well-being. It’s about personal responsibility towards the welfare of your child regardless of the fathers input.
