Military officer with ex military officer husband here; thank goodness we are stationed 100’s of miles apart and I have the children 78% of the year (I did a sweet spreadsheet for the courts when he tried to eradicate his child support payments).

I wholeheartedly agree with the above posters. I’ve seen countless men go on and on about how their children are their lives and they devote everything to them as single dads, but being a single dad is having them one Wednesday per week and every other weekend then they don’t stick to that once they have a regular girlfriend or get busy with other things, lol.

I’ve sacrificed a lot to keep the children in a stable, family-oriented career and don’t regret it!

Let me go ahead and step in here with my experience * as a former family law attorney:

Dads don’t want even 50/50 custody of the children in 95% of divorces. And in the 5% they request it, it’s because mom has a new boyfriend and dad is resentful about her “playing house” and being a family. Dads might bitch and moan about getting fucked over in family court, but they love getting their bachelorhood back and being daddy only 4-6 days out of the month plus fun daddy on Xmas and Thanksgiving alternatively.

Moms feel they have to take the standard Sunday night - Friday after school arrangement because they fear for the children if left long term with their fathers, because dad usually doesn’t know how to care for them. I’m talking: can’t help with homework, can’t cook, won’t make them go to bed, can’t administer medications, forgetful about activities, etc.

I agree there’s nothing wrong with it, but practically, I’ve only seen weekend custody (every other weekend) for mom 2x. Once because she got married to a semi-wealthy businessman out of state, dad wouldn’t let her take the kids away from their families and schools, so she flew them out 2-3x a month to visit. Once because she had multiple DUIs with the daughter in the car, her interlock device was activated a couple times, and she had to go to rehab; and even then, that was a temp arrangement until she got her life together and dad could shove the girl back onto her. Like, imagine your husband is an extraordinary danger to your child in that way and you’re chomping at the bit to pass the kid back over literally 3 days out of rehab because you need alone time. You can’t. Because men are pathologically selfish and only take care of their kids until penalty of contempt of court.

Also, I might add that if one parent dies, it is perfectly natural for the remaining parent to do what needs to be done. If your children's other parent is a complete disaster who disrupts their lives and harms their emotional and educational development, it seems to make sense to train yourself to continue life as though you've been widowed, leaving no duty to the other parent that you wouldn't leave to a literal dead person. That's not pickme behaviour, that's taking your kids and getting on with your lives so that you can all be a relatively unscarred family together.

The meme mixed with the particular emoji you used as the title reads very tone deaf. There’s nothing wrong with someone who’s a good dad having majority custody, or women with a demanding job full of travel to have the lower custody.

The nail painting emoji implies that not having your kids makes a woman cool and fly, which ain’t cute.
