Get a lawyer as soon as possible. Document everything. Who goes to doctors appointments, who takes care of the kids for the most part, how often do you attend extra curriculars, etc etc. Being a dad in divorce and custody court means you are already working at a disadvantage. You need to document everything you can to show you play an active role in your children's lives everyday. If she said the kids can live with you in a text that's great if not, you need to record every second of every conve…

Document everything. Take nothing from her and for God sake don't let her come back home. Make your own accounts and empty your half out of the shared accounts.

If you put that much money into the home there is a strong argument for you getting some sort of financial benefit from the property. Also, get an attorney. A good one too. Document everything and everything. Especially when it comes to parenting. Who goes to doctors appointments, who does bed time routine usually, who does extra curriculars, who does volunteering at the school and how often. Documentation helps, go back as far back as you can to show you play a consistent and important role in …

Three years ago I lost all of my savings and military retirement and my home. My attorney got 30k from valuables I sold and money I got from family members. I defaulted on 42k in loans. And my credit score went from nearly 800 to high 400s. The judge said it was a fair division of assets. I got the kids and primary custody and she got all the money and stuff. I got my kids about 80% of the time which already felt like a win then. Now, about 3 years in with budgeting every single day and being ve…

I was a single dad with a 6.5 year old daughter and 6 month daughter, and it is great! Be patient with yourself. Remember to be patient not only with yourself but with your baby. Get counseling.

I went through an extremely similar situation. The only difference was my ex wife is also an addict. I was told the same thing and felt torn because on one side I know it might help the kids but on the other side I knew I would struggle to sit there and act like friends when inside I would like to do to her what Hans Landa did to Bridget Von Hammersmark. In the end I decided to try it one time and if it didn't go well then that would be a line I wouldn't cross again. I learned there's a differen…

I appreciate you guys so much. In the back of my mind I was worried about missing having them, but hearing all of you having already deleted your painful pictures and moved on is inspirational. Thank you so much.

I'm trying to take this all day by day. I guess I need to learn to accept things as they are and move on.

Well she cheated and basically walked out for several months. So me having the kids and doing everything for them was the status quo and the judge I got doesn't like to change that if it isn't necessary. So I went after her for child abandonment and neglect. Plus there was a bit of a drug problem, doctor shopping, and general self destructive behavior. I documented everything and wrote a very detailed affidavit with a timeline and the effect her actions have had.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
