It’s all about your kid. You only focus on what’s going to make that child grow up to be a strong person. The rest is a shit show, but be there for your kid. Ground yourself in that mantra. The rest doesn’t matter. And they will thank you for that.

Going through it right now. Same length of marriage but with 2 minors. You both know it’s inevitable whether you’ve said it out loud or not. So someone should take the first step forward and file. Multiple lawyers should be consulted. I only paid for one of my 4 consults and ended up going with that firm because they stood out as the best option. You’re going to enter a new world that is divorce, and you need guidance. It’s expensive as hell, so research/read as much as you can on the divorce pr…

Assume every response could be used in court. Only say things that protect you and your time with your kid.

If things are starting to look like crazy town, make sure you are going gray rock and watch your responses. I use Chat GPT to analyze her texts and put together a neutral response (or decide what to respond to or not). For her text, I might not respond to an accusation.

The stress you feel when your partner is spending irresponsibly is immense. I know first hand and am living it with you, brother. Start the process and remove yourself from the toxic behavior

It’s the constant fear I have that this is going to happen to me

If she gets it in her head that she could get more, of course she’ll go for it. She’s already concerned about her financial future and is thinking about her comfort. The lawyer wants to turn this into a contest. You might want to or need to lawyer up.

You ripped the bandaid off first. It was the first step towards the process and whether she can accept it or not is not your problem. Your problem might be down the road when she claims DV to get you thrown out of the house. I would record everything. There was a couple posts I’ve seen on here for an Amazon recorder. Might be worth the investment if she keeps accelerating her behavior.

I think we need more information. It sounds amicable. Are you asking if you need a lawyer?

OP is in for a ride. Hopefully that house sells and you land on your feet. Which is wishing a lot lol

All texts are potential court documents. I journal every night about my involvement with the kids and how I spend time with them, take them to school, Dr. appointments. We’ve settled into a calm, I won’t escalate if you don’t escalate way of communicating, but to be honest I use chatGPT to analyze text messages and advice on how to respond. I assume that every text might be used against me. And I assume she is doing the same with me. I’m sure ChatGPT is giving her advice on how to screw me. War …

Posting in my own post. A lawyer just sent me this and I thought I'd share: https://www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/app/selfsuffcalc/

I thank you. I’ve read this post over and over and am trying to process the fucked through and through comment. I am still looking at this like it’s something I can fix. I think it’s time to put my big-boy pants and start doing the hard work.

I’ve put a lot of thought into what you’ve all said. The more I think about it, I believe I’m completely fucked. She is sending me texts accusing me of drinking every day, that I stole our money, that I’ve made all these purchases without talking to her. She is clearly setting me up and from what I can research, it is clear that I am fucked. Holy shit

Edit again - the advice is great. The cards are in her name, I’ve been canceling our joint cards one by one and I think there’s only one left. So I should let her drown in her own debt before filing?

She just got a storage unit, 25 storage bins, shelving, and rented a UHaul. She says she needs the room. I say it’s spending money on a monthly storage rental while allowing her to buy more shit to hoard. Just wasting more cash

I’m in a no-fault state with a community property law. Everything I’ve read online and in this sub has been telling me I’m screwed financially.

I took some money out, opened up my own checking and savings, and have been keeping us afloat for now. If the money is in an account she can get to, she will use it to pay the minimum on the cards. I’m not trying to strategize, I just want to hold on as long as I can for the kids sake. But it’s good to know that the cards in her name might help. I feel like I should take some of the money I have left and get a lawyer. Edit to add that she’s already ruined her credit (I don’t know how credit comp…
