Sort of... it varies by location. Generally you need to claim you feared death or grievous bodily harm was imminent when you acted. Self defense claims are always subjective to some degree. Not for self defense. You are literally defending yourself from injury. That absolutely doesn't need a fear of death. You can lose an eye or teeth, break a jaw by getting hit in the face. Also once assaulted there is a higher probability the assault will continue.

The IRR does not last for life. The contract you signed when you enlisted was for a specific amount of time, and after that time the government has no claim to you apart from an actual draft. I love going heavy, but as I get older I fear injury and the inevitable changes I will have to make to my lifting in the future. Starting Strength is the name of a very specific barbell training program. I did it and the program did not have box jumps. Also squats always come first in Rip's program but it doesn't matter when you do them. SS is meant to take advantage of noob gains. It is not a sustainable long term program.
