Humbert, the protagonist, admits what he did was illegal (and eventually he admits to its immorality), but he does claim that the kid seduced him. Which is part of the reason why he's so unlikeable. But it's important to remember that it's not some omniscient narrator telling the story, it's Humbert. Writing to us. And he is expecting us to judge him (he frequently refers to his audience as "the jury"). And even if he did get seduced by a 12-year-old, that's no excuse. tl,dr: Dude Lolita is so g…

Not entirely a good point. Sure, comparing Mario to someone from Street Fighter, there's obviously a huge stylistic difference, but Assassin's Creed, GTA, LA Noire, and Left 4 Dead all have strong similarities in how they approach the human shape-- that is, they tend towards more realistic proportions. And in that you can see the diversity of the male protagonists' body shapes (with the Left 4 Dead series having some great variety in-universe-- starring Old Guy, Muscles Biker, Office Worker, Fat…

Depends on the girl. Generally though women prefer guys who are leaders. This means that, as the guy, one of your jobs is to make plans and do the initial action to get something to happen.

Not sure how to approach a guy. People you sit with on a bus, make new friends a pub, talk to people when at events.

It's a somewhat legit fear, college campuses are often a hotbed of feminist thought and not always the most receptive to your type of behvaior. That said, instead of just approaching women, why not strike up a conversation with anyone, man or woman. Go in looking to make friends, not just pick up chicks. It'll help cement your reputation as more a friendly guy than the guy who hits on all the girls.

This absolutely. And nobody is suggesting total nihilism. We all come here with our own values and whatnot. It is perfectly acceptable (and even necessary!) to give a fuck about things you can change. You don't try to play an instrument, fail, and just go "I don't give a fuck". The situation is entirely in your control. However, detachment from results when there are outside factors is important. Hit on a chick, if she rejects you, don't take it personally. She may be having a bad day, or in a r…

You need to relax a bit, there isn't one single perscriptive way of approaching this sort of thing, it's more a series of guidelines. You're overthinking. Try to go with the flow. As a socially awkward guy, I understand that this can be tricky since flow is hard to calculate or quantify. Personally, I try to stick to Open, Demonstrate Value, Physical Connection, Emotional Connection (I think this was Neil Strauss's method). Four very general steps that more-or-less follow how a conversation shou…

Don't bother trying to stay with her. You've known each other for like a week you said, that's not enoug time to develop a real emotional connection (generally speaking). Even long-term relationships have huge complications when someone is deployed. There's no chance that a week-long one will be able to handle it. Sorry. There are plenty of other really sweet girls out there. Good luck with your deployment. Edit: Some would say that the moral thing to do would be to tell her and don't lead her o…

Hey mate. Couple of things first off: I don't think leaving a large tip was a good idea since you may be attracting a gold digger or something, and personally I wouldn't invite someone whom I've met once as a date to a wedding. Seems too personal and fast-paced for most. That said, going out for drinks is a perfectly standard first date. Loads of people do that. You just need to remember to escalate, demonstrate value, etc. Don't worry if this one ends up not working out. As long as you're learn…

I generally get a bit of shit for pumping up ballroom dance and "proper" club dances in these threads, but whatever. You should look up how to hustle. It's fun, very easy to lead, and very easy for ladies to follow. And everyone loves a fun dance like hustle, with all its spins and dips. Feminism as an academic philosophical movement has certain strong ties to Marxism, with patriarchy theory essentially being Marxist class warfare but with gender. Now, think of it in terms of a Marxist. The haves, the bourgeois and upper class, versus the proletariat. If the proletariat, the class with nothing, complains, their poor economic circumstance makes them deserving of sympathy. If the bourgeois complains? Laughable, as if the rich have legit problems. How do a lot of more liberal peopl…

Yeah, as I think I said in another comment, it's ok for a preliminary screening since false negatives are uncommon, but if it isn't followed up with slightly more analysis, it's useless.

BMI is really cheap to calculate and hypothetically you are unlikely to get a "false negative" with it. I'd say it's good for preliminary screening as long as a different measure and/or common sense is used as a followup.

Jesus, I've only taken a couple of health classes at my university but I have never heard that the BMI was anything other than slightly inaccurate (but so cheap that it's worth it usually). And none of them have argued that being obese is healthy. Mind you, one of the professors was an Asian-American self-described "flaming liberal". She said that fat people face some discrimination and are mocked by society, but being in an unfortunate group like that doesn't make obesity healthy.

He didn't. There's a difference between understanding why someone would do something bad, and even being fine with the motive, versus condoning doing something bad. If someone screws me over big time, I have a right to be mad, and it may be understandable and appropriate to be mad. But if I kill the person who wronged me, it's the action, while understandable, that is wrong.

The problem that people seem to have is that she's making claims from a gynocentric viewpoint without a proper understanding of prison culture. Her claim that prison rape is a mirror of rape outside of prison is, as many other commenters explained, something of a false analogy. Coupled with this is her assertment that being the bitch is being the woman. Again, a false analogy stemming from an apparent misunderstanding of prison culture. If she displayed a greater understanding about the culture …

I really like your argument, especially the herion example. It reminded me about how in Portugal, drug use went down after drug posession was decriminalized (I think sale is still illegal though) (I can cite this source later). Maybe this is a false equivalency, but I view it as similar to passing in a report to a someone, and when asked "This bit of information is interesting, what's your source on it?" replying with, "It's true, look it up yourself." The value of citing your own sources is that you can ensure yourself that your data is coming from what you consider to be a valid source. Good devil's advocate, but prison isn't a "him or me" thing. People are found not guilty all the time. This doesn't mean that the person is innocent, just that the amount of doubt present is such that there is enough chance that the person is innocent, thus he or she should not be convicted. False accusations on the other hand are perjury, which as I understand it, requires knowingly stating false information under oath. And that is a difficult thing to prove in court. This is why most "not guil…

Hey, passion about issues is a good thing. I just personally think the American criminal justice system is exceptionally harsh ([highest rate of incarceration per 1000 people in the world] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate)) and I doubt that's only because Americans are naturally more prone to crime, so I tend to err on the side of leniency. That's a legit point that I neglected, but can't that be generalized to any perjury that acts towards convicting the suspect? That is, should perjury count more or less depending on whether the lies spoken are made to suggest one is guilty or not guilty?

Mandatory sentencing is a tricky thing, and what you're proposing would almost definitely violate the 8th Amendment (assuming you're 'Murican). The punishment should fir the crime. What's the crime of knowingly filing a false police report? Perjury. Just a guess, but I don't think perjury carries a life sentence even if someone is wrongfully convicted. I agree with your sentiments, filing a knowingly false police report should result in greater punishment due to its chances of making someone's l…

As someone who supports the court's ruling, the misinformation here is really annoying. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ruling essentially states that if you're doing something in public in plain view (e.g., sitting on a bus in a skirt with your legs spread), because it is legal to photograph anyone in public in the States, photographing a person exposing him- or herself is thus not a crime. It would still be a crime to photograph somebody upskirt by holding a camera under her skirt, since that…

Every month or so, the RAs in my building put up a board with information about stuff: fashion, getting more sleep, ironing clothes, etc. Last month he put up a poster about sexual assault and how to avoid it. Are you kidding? At least in America, many hospitals are understaffed. Now imagine if 95% of nurses didn't show up to work (figure from my first source). I'm not arguing that men don't do essential jobs, or that men don't work important jobs that women statistically avoid. The top 10 deadliest jobs in America are stereotypically men's jobs. /u/SpecialFester is correct that the definition for rape is too broad, but simutaniously it's too narrow. We never hear about men getting raped in the mainstream media because, legally speaking, the rapist must penitrate the victim, by definition. This means straddling an unconscious man and sticking his penis into one's oriface is, legally speaking, not rape, but rather just sexual assault. Indeed, if being forced to penetrate against one's wishes were legally considered rape, there would be fa…

With little context to go on, I'd assume you get into some foul mood because of either a frequently occuring trigger or by many triggers. What makes you upset, and why? Do you have a need to fight everything that disturbes or evokes disagreement? Do you get worked up over little things? A good life lesson is to only pick important battles. It's pointless to waste time and energy worring about or fighting some meaningless slight. Save it for the stuff you find significant.

There's sidebar stuff on this but here's my thoughts. Some people are more emotional, some more rational. Both are fine, please ignore the connotations of the words. Rational people (like myself) can overcome the fear of "What if I'm not liked" by remembering that these people whom one doesn't know don't matter. It's only important to care how friends and family think of one. Emotional people need a different approach, one of discovering how to appreciate oneself over others. A feeling of, "If p…

There are many barriers for men on dating websites; you basically have your profile picture for your first impression. If you fail to look good, you'll be ignored. Validation is when an outside entity affirms that some subject has value. Here is an example: Man says to woman, "I just got back from swimming." Woman says, "Oh, you swim? That's awesome." For starters, kino is good. You'll want to see about escalating quicker though, if possible. You have to somehow make your intention clear (your intention being "I want us to have romantic interactions"), and you have to do it early on. Think of it this way, when you first meet a girl, you're uncategorized. Everyone compartmentalizes, and quickly, so you need to demonstrate that she should put you in the "date material" category instead of the "friend" category. The easiest way to do that is to …

I'm part of the Ballroom Dance Club at my university, so I'm probably biased. Nevertheless, the following are great partner dances: Hustle, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Salsa/Mambo, Cha Cha, and Rhumba. You probably don't need a coach. First step should be reading the sidebar for some basics and a bit of direction as to where to start. With that sort of grounding, the next thing you have to do is go out and try to pick up girls. As you fail (and you'll fail, nobody just starts off good) and succeed a little, you'll notice patterns specific to you. Learn from those. Nevertheless, you can always go to your town's Seddit page and try to meet up with people.

A couple notes. Creepy is subjective and depends on both parties as well as context. Daygame street approaches do not have to be creepy, just watch some Sasha Daygame for evidence to the contrary. I think practicing street approaches is perfectly acceptable. Even if it makes people uncomfortable. Why? Because practice makes perfect, and approached does not equal being harrassed. As a selfish person, that mindset actually bugs me. Why is someone else's comfort more important than my honing of my …

People who claim that they are "InCel" just seem lazy to me. They strike me more as sometimes scared to a pitiful degree or (in my case before /r/Seduction) not socially aware enough to make the right moves. Not to sound like one of the whiney MRAs, but look at culture and the media. There are very few positive male role models for children. Disney princes are often literally perfect and do nothing to win the heart of the princess other than stab the villain to death and say "m'lady". So what do…

In the States, shrooms are illegal, Schedule I (though there might be some religious exceptions). Nonetheless, there are viable ways to obtain some if you go to college or want to spend some time searching through .onion sites and paying for items with Bitcoins. Additionally, the spores do not contain the drug and thus technically are legal to own in most states. Not many health risks, shrooms are pretty safe compares to most drugs. Sauce.

I value a legit friendship* with anybody, male or female. Ladies offer different perspectives on things than men and I enjoy the dissent, if only to consider an alternative I may not have thought of. Women more than men I've noticed (and this is anecdotal, don't quote me) are more open to talking about their feelings and stuff. You don't need to make fun of other people at the bar to make yourself look better. It shows that your confidence is only skin deep and that you're looking for validation. I disagree somewhat. Granted, saying "ugh Mr. Smith over there is a lumbering retard, what a stupid fatass cake-eater" is an example of weak game and poor social awareness. Psychology undergrad here! For experiments, the standard I learned in statistics is thus: Ask question. Formulate hypothesis and (of course) null hypothesis. Collect data. Does the data disprove the null hypothesis? If not, change the hypothesis and repeat. Null hypothesis must be rejected since you can't "prove" stuff, only disprove it, hopefully with a low chance of statistical error.

AFAIK, a woman's sexual market value (SMV) is dictated primarily by her looks, whereas men it is dictated by power, wealth, confidence, etc. Basically being alpha. As a woman ages, she hits "The Wall" at which her SMV decreases (because very few older women become MILFs). Often, you see women wanting to "settle down" as she approaches "The Wall" because she knows her SMV is on the decline. On the flip side, if a man keeps himself in shape, well groomed, and does a good job with his career, his S…

This research article doesn't necessarily answer your question perfectly, but it may help. It's very interesting. For gays and lesbians, go to Table 6 (page 11 of the PDF, "95" of the journal it was taken from). tl;dr, 29.1% of gay men claim to desire sexual variety in the next month compared to 5.5% of lesbians (though interestingly, while 30.1% of bi men want more variety in the next month, 15.6% of bi women desire sexual variety in the next month. Wowie-zowie!).

Confidence displays power. Power can result from good genes and it can lead to a good life for offspring. In a similar vein, I would suggest taking a dance class where you dance with a partner (like Ballroom or Latin style). In this environment, you accomplish three things: You become comfortable around women whom you don't know. You begin to trust women to do as you lead them to do, and to not fight back in an abusive way. Because you as the man would be the leader of the dance, everything you as a dancing couple is up to you. And when you get into that position of power, trust me, you don't fear w…

That was mighty interesting, and modestly valuable. A couple of points stuck out to me. 5:50, that was clever. Remember, make comments about your surroundings. 6:27, notice how fearless he was when he made that comment. how deterimental to attraction is being 'weird'? Depends. I view "weird" as having potentially creepy connotations. You don't want to be saying "stupid (immature?) things" to someone whom you're hitting on.
