I am not a political scientist, but I am very interested in the claim that nearly half of peace agreements fail because women aren't involved. This seems like a ridiculous claim. Surely the reason a war is started (or in this case restarted) cannot be summed up in one word or phrase. I think peace agreements fail because they often are lopsided or only say "ok, let's stop shooting now" without addressing why they were shooting in the first place.

I was just kind of having a little fun with this thread. Then you hit me with this. The haircuts are not a terrible analogy. The man is expected (generally) to be the breadwinner. That's a haircut. In many countries a draft or selective service type thing (not Canada, thank God). That's a haircut. Lower performance for one reason or another in school. That's a haircut. How short the man's hair is, and how long the woman's by the end of this.

I understand there was a huge 'why UBC needs feminism' event. Some of the male students felt emasculated by what was happening, and organized an event where they would do things that are over-the top manly (in their opinion) to feel better and just generally hang out with some dudes. The issue probably stemmed from the big pro-feminism event. People who attended would have been 'primed' to see misogyny wherever they looked. They happened to look at this.

Well, to be fair, allegedly asking if he should "suck out the blood" is kind of creepy, in a horror movie kind of way. Assuming that is accurate and there is no context that might make it more reasonable (wound being dirty and worries of blood poisoning for instance.)

I read CBD shooting survivor Kara Douglas says Victoria should bring back the death penalty for those convicted of murdering women. I agree with what you have stated here. However, the poster says the person stood up and 'checked in' simply because she was leaving with someone else, and that this 'checking in' stopped a rape. This scenario suggests that the man the woman was leaving with is a rapist, for no other reason than that they left the bar together.

Exactly. I mean, if you had some reason to believe that she may have been drugged, or is otherwise being coerced, sure, say something. Suggesting that the female here is going to get raped because she left with someone while drunk is counterproductive to everyone. It suggests that every man is going to rape every drunk woman, as well as suggesting that you are not going to be raped if you are not drunk. Both of those suggestions are dangerous.

I am curious what factors would result in this disparity. Is it a difference in the types of courses being taken by each gender, generally? Because I would expect it would cost the same to educate a male or female engineer, and you would get the same return out of them both.

Well, with all new drugs there is a certain lack of long-term research by necessity. However, I would use this drug after discussion with my girlfriend. I am looking forward to getting the choice.
