I saw one thread of comments in the original imgur which began "Defend rights for everybody." OP follows up "Said this before: Tell me in what country men are considered property of women, and we'll go protest in that country together." Other comments in this thread "straight white male, has better everything yet gets all defensive when people complain about their lack of rights"
I would like to make two points here (and hope that they are read before discussion). First, why does such a well established group like Amnesty International feel the need to exclude any men who may be tortured etc. Second, from the comment threads, what about males who aren't straight or white? Does a homosexual afro-Canadian not deserve protection? For that mater, why not a straight white male?

Comments like those are quite disparaging because they are contradictory. How can you both simultaneously say you want equality for all people but then turn around and silence someone that mentions a group in need.
But I'll bet you the first time a celebrity were to take pic that said "End violence against men" they would either scream the bloodiest of murder or try to hijack it like they came up with the idea.

Just an FYI: Patrick Stewart's father had PTSD (before it had that title) and was frequently abusive to his mother. It makes perfect sense that his lens would lead him to become a feminist.

Agreed, everyone has personal experiences that lead to the stances we take on issues. However, is it an excuse to ignore half the population?
Most people are unaware of the problems men face. Being unaware of a problem is not the same as ignoring it, and I would wager that people who self-identify as feminist that are not writing/following feminist blogs online would tend to stay unaware.

Lets be fair, Amnesty International do set out to protect and promote the human rights of men as well. They have campaigns for various issues one of which is women's rights, supporting this does not mean that you don't support the rights of men. This poster is not meant to be exhaustive, it merely acknowledges that rights for women are, in some parts of the world much poorer than the rights of men (who also usually have it pretty shitty).
