I get you're trying to hold on to the person she once was. I understand that fully. But as bad as it hurts and it hurts like hell, you need to reconcile in your mind and heart this is not the case anymore. One of two things are possible if you think about it. Either this is always who she was and she finally took off the mask or she flipped a switch and has changed. Regardless if it is peer pressure or social media comparison or whatever it is, this is your life now. It sucks and like I said I w…

Quit giving her outs. What she is doing you wrong and yes it is cheating. You can try and twist it any way you want but it is cheating. What she is doing is wrong, period. Of course you have your flaws and so does she. The difference is you didn't decide to abandon your marriage, she did. There is no justification unless you were cheating or abusing her or something like that. People are flawed you work through each others flaws. Don't make excuses for her. I did after 35 years of marriage only …

Don't believe that for a minute. They lie like they breath, it is that natural. I thought the same thing only to find mine is just an outright slut. They get tired of the status quo and want to feel like they still got it and when the find out how easy it is to get laid they run with it. I am sorry you're going through all this. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. But I am here to tell you man she is lying to you.

I know I’m divorced. You don’t have to point that out to me and I’ve already said I was a fool for acting like it. You don’t have to point that shit out to me either. I understand all of that I know it was me keeping myself tethered to her, but she took advantage of it. I get it and I am moving on. I was using this to warn others not to allow themselves to be trapped in this little circle. That’s all it was and yeah, it feels fresh because she took advantage of it. Nothing more I can do about th…

There is absolutely no way I will ever be in a relationship again much less remarry. Why would I do this to myself again?

I am moving on now. Did you miss what I said? She kept me involved in her life for two years then cut me off abruptly. That door is now closed but it feels raw now because she kept it going. Mine was more a cautionary tale for others who might be getting strung along like I was.

Oh brother, I will never marry again. I will never put forth the kind of effort. I will not take the chance of being kicked to the curb because they’re not happy and be perfectly honest I don’t want to put in the work. I’m 56 years old and I don’t wanna start over again at that age.

You got that right. Like I said I was a fool! Learn from my mistake! They don't care about you, it is all self serving and they will let you bleed until you have given your last ounce of blood.

Thanks brother, I have learned this one the hard way. I guess you're right, the level of deception it takes to do this maybe she should be a politician.

I understand what you are saying, but the sting of how all this was handled makes me feel cheap and dirty. I would not have done this to her. I do not understand how you could do this to someone you used to love. Especially over such a long life shared together. All of our adult life we were together with the exception of the last two years and three months. I don't know maybe I live a sheltered life.

This helps I suppose but the sting of being used like that still hurts. How can you do someone like this that you shared a life time with? It is a rhetorical question really as there would be no satisfactory answer.

If I knew then what I know now, she would not have gotten of my help. And for the record I never used her. It was all one way, she did this knowing how I felt about her. I never asked for anything in return when I helped her out.

Brother I am just a little younger than you (56) and after 35 years my wife dropped the bomb on me. I felt the same way you do now and all I can say is don't do it, please! I know what this feels like and if you need someone to talk to please DM me. You matter to other people even if you don't think you do. This is not the end of your story.

It could be worse you could be an idiot like me. 35 year marriage, got told I don't love you and I am not happy. Divorced a little over two years now and because she still reached out to me for help an made me think she cared about my wellbeing I helped thinking maybe she would see I am a good reliable man and that my love for her was still there. Don't do it! After my divorce I told my ex I would help her and be there for her as long as she is not seeing other men. Well, she was seeing other men and taking money from me for help. I was a fool! Now she has cut me off completely and she bled me dry. Trust me no contact and no help. She is not your responsibility anymore. This will be hard for you but it will keep her from toying with you.

When mine started I told a close friend it would have been easier to deal with death. The mind job that it does when you're told "I'm not happy and I don't love you" is something mulled over for a very long time. Especially if you are told just a couple of months prior that she is happily married to you, by her. Neither one are a good option but I could have at least live with the illusion that I mattered to her. And then there's the whole imagining her with another man. That is something I stru…

You just summed up everything I have been feeling but have not been able to put into words, at least not a well as you have. I will say it is getting a little better for me but I still have days where I deal with all of these and those days are hard. The biggest thing for me was trying to understand what was real and what wasn't. Are my memories a lie? And the point you make about grieving someone who is still alive. I will be 56 in a couple of months. My wife of 35 years one day told me she does not love me anymore, is not happy and wants out. This was about two and a half years ago. I am better but I still have periods where if I am not carful I can spiral out of control and get caught up in the why's, how's and where did this go wrong. I have to remind myself that even if I did have the answers to these questions it would not matter. The one thing that I latch on to as far as getting through this is remin…

I wish I could get a clear answer to this question. All I got after 35 years together is that she was not happy. No details nothing. But my ex is a very self righteous person who is quick to anger and slow to forgive if at all. I have seen her hold grudges against people for years. We once had an argument and she brought into that argument something I did 10 years earlier. Once she hit her 50's she got worse. I will never be in a relationship again. I don't need the trauma and heartache she brou…

Wow! This resonates with me. I had abandonment issues when I was a boy and I realize now that my identity was in my wife. I wanted her to need me as much as I needed her and after looking back I see that I created situations unintentionally that perpetuated the need for her to need me. Eventually, it was more than she could handle. There was never any abuse or infidelity on either side but as you stated I smothered her. As she started moving into her 50's she had reached a breaking point. Be…

I’m 54 and I have no desire for dating much less putting in the work to sustain a relationship. I don’t really have a problem being celibate either. I don’t know if I’m the only one who feels that way or not but that’s how I feel. My marriage was work and stressful especially the last few years and I just don’t want to dedicate that kind of time and effort again only to fall short.

If you don't understand that getting guidance from others who have previously walked the road your currently walking then you are either obtuse or your trolling. You genuinely don't see the value of gleaning information from others experiences? You have offered nothing of value other than trying to invalidate what I have said, so in saying that thank you for finally leaving me alone.

If I knew the answer to your question I would not be looking for other men to chime in with their experiences and prospective. I believe I answered your question when I stated this was not who I was before my marriage of 35 years was kicked to the curb this year. See above reply for the answer to your question.

I find myself getting angry about everything. It doesn't seem to have a pattern. It started a few days ago. Before that I seemed to be at peace, enjoying not having the drama my wife introduced in our home. Now this seems to have flipped. This doesn't make sense to me and I am looking for guidance and to see if any other man went through this after their divorce was final.

Honestly, if the only thing you have to contribute, is pointing out a “contradiction”in my statement, then why are you here and why did you reply? everyone else here seems to understand what I was talking about. I’m looking for advice on how to help move away from this anger that is ramping up in me and if anyone else went through the same thing but so you will be satisfied. My statement was intended to say my divorce is final that part is closed thus closure it was a misstatement on my part.

There’s two problems with your comment the first being your attributing logic to the female thought process while logic may exist with some women. It is certainly not the norm they go based on feelings and emotion. Second women who get divorced have a tendency to paint the picture rosie making women jealous especially later in life thinking that maybe they’ve missed out on something because they’ve been a wife and a mother so while you are partially correct, I think stating that if the marriage …

That was one of the things my wife told me before the divorce final. You never helped me do anything she said. She left out the fact that I worked multiple jobs so she could stay home with our daughter and all of the other things I did.

I agree. I am an older man and whether its depression or something else what I am stating has absolutely nothing to do with sex. As a matter of fact I really don't even mean that. I am talking about non sexual intimacy. The day to day moments and connections that cam natural. I miss that sometimes so bad that it hurts. Now like I said I am coming over the hump of total despair and love my peace and quiet and the lack of drama in my life that she introduced. But after 35 years of marriage those t…

The best way is to realize you will never fully understand and to be honest I am not sure it would make it any better if you did know. The sooner you come to grips with this the better. Women are driven by emotion and what have you done for me lately mentality. Everything you ever did that she considered negative will outweigh anything you did that was positive. They create a narrative in their mind that it was all bad and no good. Most men I know look at the relationship as mostly good with onl…

This is why I don't even want to be in a relationship again. No part of me wants to give myself to another woman only to be told I don't make her happy or other stupid crap like that. Also this is my personal opinion but something happens to a woman as she gets older. I don't know if they are just good at hiding it when they are younger or if they actually just lose their ever loving mind.

Honestly, it just kind of clicked with me one day on the way home from work. It was probably about six weeks post divorce and as I was pulling into the driveway, I realized I’m not about to walk into drama. I’m going home to a peaceful house and then I got to thinking I’m going go have breakfast with a friend Saturday morning before I go to an odd job for another friend and I don’t have to ask do we have plans or is it OK with you if I do This, I just did it, and it felt good, and I’ve kind of l…

Don't text her unless its about your son. Don't try to show her how much you love her. And when you are around her don't cry and don't make yourself look sad or pitiful. This will only make her despise you. It will not make her think "oh my what have I done" this will only solidify her decision in her mind. Yes, in my experience when the woman seems indifferent like they have checked out it usually means they did this a while back. In my case she just went through the motions for years and I later found out from her that she was just waiting for our daughter to finish school. I of course sensed that something was not right so I started pushing this issue and that's when she dropped the bomb on me. Regrettably the divorce card might not be the card you think it is. When women start acting like that they are already done. She is just waiting for her moment. I hope I am wrong but that is how mine went and a few other men I know. She probably started this process months ago and now she is holding you off until the right time for her. Again, I hope I am wrong but this seems to be the M. O. for a great deal of women.

It helps to not look back on everything through the lens of nostalgia. It makes everything seem a lot more rosy and it lies about how good things were. Don't demonize the past but look at it with honest criticism. I was only focusing on how I remembered feeling and it was a kick in the nuts every time I did. When I started taking an honest evaluation of my 34 year marriage I realized this woman wanted out even during our engagement period. But because I was "in love" I talked her out when I shou…

While I agree with your analogy abut grieving her like a death I think a death would be easier to handle. I am getting there like you but sometimes I think if it would've been a death I could have lived with the illusion she died loving me. I DO NOT WISH HER DEAD OR WANT ANY HARM TO COME TO HER. Now she sees the financial burdens and she hates her job but can’t quit it because she can’t afford it. She is in her 50’s and the job is breaking her down physically. Even though I feel bad for her I am not going to make it easier on her. I don’t go out of my way to make it harder either but I told her I have things I have to do for myself now

I agree with you completely. You stated it better than I did but that was the point I was trying to make about my friends avoiding me now. People can only take so much. The counseling has done a lot to point me in the right direction but this process requires work on your part and its hard work.

Okay bud, I understand how you feel as my wife of 34 years up and left me too but you need to realize you have made an idol out of your wife and what you used to have. Take your thoughts captive and quit wallowing in what used to be. That life is not your reality anymore, this is. As so many on here say, go to counseling, find a divorce care group. Do the work to get out of this rut because that's what it is and it won't get better until you change your trajectory.

Man, I am sorry your going through this, I would tread carefully with this. I would video record, voice record, journal and at least make a police report. I think you can do this without pressing charges but I don't know. I would make sure you watch your back too. I have seen those crime of passion shows and it can go wrong quickly. After being married as long as I was and getting burned as bad as I did I will not be doing this again. More power to all the guys that want to be in a relationship again but not me. It’s too hard and there is too much work involved and to be honest at thi…

So, this is only meant to be a partial Joke but are most women insane? I feel the same way most men on here do. The "I don't know who this person is" seems to be the general consensus here. My conclusion is that something flips in their head or they are expert liars and masters of deception. Literally two months before I got the bomb dropped on me I heard from my wife "I am happily married" you know that same crap most of you guys have heard. Sorry you are going through this brother. It was 34 y…

I don’t know why this is but the term narcissism seems to be the flavor of the year women use it as an excuse to get out of a marriage don’t wanna be in any longer instead of working through the tough times. You might have contributed to hard times in the marriage but your not the one who walked away, she is. This is something I am coming to grips with in my situation.

Oh I know she didn’t just end it she has been planing this for years. I get all that, this post was about me venting my feelings and my prospective. I said in my original post. I get all that. Just venting and expressing my feelings in all this.

We are amicable. I am old enough to realize in most cases begging, pleading and getting angry only makes things worse. I agree the marriage has been dead for years as she told me so. There is not fighting that either. I am trying to move forward but such a large chunk of my life is intertwined with this woman. This is why it feels so violent to me. I only have memories of my entire adult life with her. We lived, loved, laughed and cried together for decades upon decades. To be honest I see this …

This! I fell like I wasted not only my 30's but my 20's and 40's too. I fell like she used me for the 3 1/2 decades we were together and then just tossed me aside like spent chewing gum. I am getting better but some days I feel like a sledge hammer has hit me between the eyes again. I heard someone say once the divorce is worse than death because with death you have a service, burial and grief and eventually closure. This feels like groundhog day where I have to relive the death over and over ag…

Oh I realize she will move on. I’m under no illusions about that at all. The cold way she is doing this is just astonishing to me though.

To be honest, I don’t want to have to do this again. Being married is hard work and I don’t want to have to work this hard again only to have the other person say, that’s it I’m done. Well I’m done and have no interest in even trying.
