Virtually every career in the civilian world has a military equivalent and the government pays for the training and the training is generally pretty thorough if somewhat specialized. If you want to be an A & P you may need some supplemental training in some obsolete area of the industry in order to get the license, but you will have so much more practical experience that it is well worth it.
