I’m experiencing this too. He asked me “so what are we doing tomorrow?” And all my friends here (Sweden) say there’s nothing wrong with that and men and women should be equally planning dates. Hard not having any like minded friends

I’m born here in Sweden and raised in CA. America has its downsides but holy molly I miss the men there and men who actually act like… men? Every guy I’ve been involved in there, while certainly not everyone was a HVM, has pursued me from the beginning, treated me like a lady, planned dates etc. Here it’s very 50/50. Im expected to look beautiful, groomed, smell good, be in shape, but also be a man in the sense that I plan and pay for dates and it’s common knowledge here that women are often exp…

Thanks, that’s exactly what I normally do and have men literally unmatch which makes me laugh. Like is meeting for dinner such an ordeal for you that you have to interview women for the honour? In that case, move along…. This particular guy seemed great and then today hits me with “I normally ask for Instagram or a voice message to peak my interest.” I replied and said thanks for sharing how you feel, but I’m not auditioning to meet you for dinner. I would absolutely love to find someone, can’t …

Ok thanks for the input. I’ll try to put myself in her shoes and do more reading. I grew up with an emotionally abusive parent but we all handle it differently.

Is it normal I just feel annoyed reading this? You’re a grown woman not a child and this man is smashing you over the head with red flags.. can’t say I even feel sympathy with this one. A man tells you to stop doing what you care about and then you not only listen to him, but think it’s normal? Sometimes wonder how some of these women get through life, at risk of sounding harsh

I only dated men 10-12 years old my entire life until recently. It’s too big of a gap.. they’re in an entire different part of their lives and they’re normally a certain kind of guy. They like us for our age, beauty and are emotionally immature on many levels. I need to work through why I seem to on my be attracted to men that much older than me.

Seeing sooooo much of this on OLD lately. I have hideous men send me msgs asking if I’d be happy being a side piece to him in an open relationship. I’m pretty attractive (toot toot - my own horn) and these men are disgusting, overweight etc... The audacity
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/01/22 05:54 PM

I’d feel the same way. I get it’s a huge shock for him and maybe his response is a result of that but I deeply feel that if a man is having sex with you; he should be prepared for the potential consequences. But you did ask, and at least he was honest now rather than when the kid is a few years old. Who you have a child with is the biggest decision you’ll ever make as a woman. It should, ideally, be discussed and planned for.

Here in Sweden people tell me “once you’ve been together a number of months, bf/gf is just assumed. Many men don’t ask” yeah, no. That’s not going to work for me. After 3 months of talking dating (not even sleeping together) and there’s no discussion on his part, he doesn’t care

Yeah I think I’m also just bummed and almost feel like my self esteem has taken a hit due to some weird dates. I moved to Sweden from the US and men do not ever approach or initiate here, its a big shock so I’ve felt pushed to try OLD but rethinking it now. I’m becoming comfortable being alone which is both exhilarating and scary for me as someone who always wanted to settle down fairly young. Thanks for your answer

Idk girl my bf was 36 (I was 24 ew) and I remember how often he would go soft during sex and ask me to suck him off which then escalated to literally anal, peeing in my mouth, really disgusting and degrading dirty walk…. I felt empowering at the time but looking back makes me really sad. I’m an in shape, very cute girl and if I wasn’t enough… idk 🤷🏼‍♀️

Funny when men treat their nasty sex issues as a woman’s job to fulfil. Sorry you can’t cum and you’re in your 20s: that’s a you issue

Because law makers don’t give a sh*t as long as they don’t have to see it. Anything to allow them to abuse women but make sure those women reap zero profits and remain powerless.

Hahahaha omg same. I used to always, as in up to last year, date 10 years older, and this guy (37) I was seeing literally BRAGGED about dating a 20 year old. He seriously said it and looked at me like I should be jealous. I straight up said “that’s kind of embarrassing”

Was just thinking of this today!!! Why do men use OLD dating when they’re somewhere for the weekend or traveling? I’ve seen so many that don’t even mention it or something along her lines of “here a good time not a long time, show me your favorite spots” …… what.. and for gods sake WHY would I?

For me, even being in contact with their ex is a no-no. I’m not jealous, at all actually, but if you’re not romantically involved anymore, why are they still in your life? I maintain respect with an ex and would smile if I see them in public but they no longer have the privilege of being part of my life, knowing what goes on it etc. They get deleted off all social, and I pretend they died. 😅 Even with the ones that ended well. Nothing good comes from keeping contact in any way.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy05/12/21 01:24 PM

Divorced I might consider but I’m very firm about no children. You’ll never be their top priority, and rightfully so as children should always come first. Also their ex will always be in the picture. Three (or more) is a crowd. Some of my friends say I’m selfish but I don’t agree, I just know that wouldn’t work for me.

Genuinely makes me sad that there are women in relationships with men like this. Many think it’s normal to be belittled, and to constantly feel shame, sadness and frustration. Single never looked so good

I seem to only have eyes for men 10-15 years older, I’m 28 so obviously not a child anymore but not sure why I’m like this. I literally am not attracted to men my age at all, not sure how to break out of this cycle..

Anytime a man mentions money or things being expensive in terms of outings or dates, it’s a turn off to me. Listen I get not everyone is wealthy or has money to blow, that’s fine. I just don’t find it tasteful to bring up and discuss especially to me as someone you’re pursuing.

Agreed. I used to date a guy in a different country (I live in Europe) and he always paid for my ticket, Uber to airport and was waiting to get me when I arrived. He continuously made a victim of himself in life. Complaining about his parents, how he wished he went to college but no effort to better himself. It was the biggest the off. He was (of course) 10 years older and as someone in my early 20s I felt like his psychologist. I was dumb in my young years, ok. I would have unprotected sex with guys I was “serious” with. Aka they weren’t fucking other girls that I knew of, after them telling me how better it felt for them. Looking back it’s shocking how little guys give a shit as long as their dick feels good. They could’ve gotten me pregnant and stuck paying child support, gotten an STD (they never seemed to think of it until I insisted on them getting tested first) or anything! Definitely. Embarrassed to say but having such a difficult time being alone/single lately. Never felt it this intensely before which is a huge sign I NEED to be alone. I live in a foreign city and don’t feel a strong connection with most of the friends I’ve made here so being “alone” is tough.

Even if you have to force yourself.... I have a habit of catching feelings (on the DL but still) for a guy and canceling on other men I have lined up and I refuse to continue that cycle. Even if you think you’ve found the damn one, go 👏🏼 out 👏🏼 with 👏🏼 more 👏🏼 men 👏🏼 EVEN IF it’s the last thing you want to do. Do not invest in a man until he’s proven his worth and recognized yours.

Sounds about right. The funny thing is we chatted back and forth very briefly and when I didn’t answer within a few hours he said “maybe this isn’t the best medium to chat on would you like to meet instead?” And I said sure but would like to hear a bit more about you first, so he was super keen to meet and quickly... then when we are about to, he’s “sick.” Whatever. Bores me trying to psychoanalyze these men
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy02/03/20 06:09 PM

Haha nope! And I was dating a psychologist... I remember before we starting having sex I told him “it’s important to me that you know I personally don’t plan on ever having an abortion” (perhaps strange to mention, but I think men should know and also puts things in perspective for them that wow-e I could actually get her pregnant..) I followed up with personal info that I’d never told any other man about a super traumatic abortion someone in my life experienced when we lived together and how it…

Chivalry here is non existent. Men do not open doors, take initiative(from my experience) and it’s very well known that the playing field in dating is considered more than even... ie women are as welcome to make first move as men and certainly expected to split costs of dates. Perhaps claiming they act like women is extreme (and in fact a compliment to them..) but coming from another country, it can be a bit of a shock, the gender roles seem very blurred. Even things like men walking in front of…

Yes! I’ve struggled a lot with mental health issues and they got much worse after a bad breakup a few months back. I think for us it’s even more crucial we implement self care and healthy boundaries because, I’m not sure about you, but I certainly used to use men as a distraction esp during times I was struggling ... although I don’t let them know it I got attached quickly and super anxious when I like a guy, and can fall into people pleasing habits as I’m so afraid of loosing them and that natu…

Even if it’s not his intention to hurt you... he will leave. Never need them more than they need you. I always ask myself, “if this man left me at this moment, would I be ok?” And if the answer is no, you shouldn’t be dating. Took me several failed relationships to realize that.

When he called me he asked “are you ok?” and I said “... are YOU ok? You just tried to sleep with me two days ago. Take care.” Then deleted and blocked. I wanted to say more but not worth my time or energy.

It doesn’t matter but I’m curious. I dated someone I considered a HVM for several months and definitely did not follow FDS guidelines (sadly didn’t know of it at that point) anyways this man and I went on a date as usual, he tried to initiate sex and I wasn’t interested that day so we just slept next to one another instead... I heard nothing from him for two days and then hours before we were supposed to meet up that Friday, he calls and simply says “I think we need to stop seeing each other I h…

Amen. Also what about men who write absolutely nothing? That’s incredibly common where I live, especially the better looking a man is. I can’t tell if that automatically translates to “I’m just here to fuck” or what

I have a few “basic” friends but no one super close unfortunately. Making good friends in your 20s is almost as hard as dating apparently 😂 I just got home from several weeks at home and it feels so hard being back but I’ll be damned if I let this man make me even think about moving home..

I actually moved here on my own but met him just weeks after so I definitely feel I made the mistake of spending too much time with him and not enough forging my own identity here, making friends and following hobbies etc. I was born here (Scandinavian country) but raised in the US from the time I was a baby. So although I speak the language, it feels very foreign. Especially the people... they are quite cold and wow the men do not make an effort... it’s 50/50 equality land here which has it’s d…

The planning days in advance is so important to me... most men will text hours before and that’s almost a dealbreaker for me, anyways have fun and let us know how it goes ❤️

This was the hardest lesson for me to learn in my first relationship on a more intense scale.. I did not set the pace and allowed him to make me his girlfriend after three dates... within two months he started bringing up the idea of getting me pregnant. This man began building us a summer house.. I don’t know what I was thinking believing this was normal but I had just moved to a new country and think I almost felt relieved being smothered by his “love.” And then literally out of the blue six m…

Amen! I have a confession. I was having unprotected sex with a man before we even became exclusive earlier in the year because he of course didn’t like condoms. Sometimes I look back on my choices and think “who the hell are you and what are you thinking....” cringeworthy

To be blunt if nice dinners etc are important to you (as they should be) don’t date someone studying or not established in their careers. Feel a man out before moving forward and see if they can/are willing to provide what you need.

Don’t just listen to his words, watch his ACTIONS. That tells you who he is. Don’t be so damn afraid of being alone... be your own best friend and “home.” Only add a man in to supplement an already full and happy life Stop questioning your feelings. That nagging sadness you feel every time you’ve seen him means something Do not not raise a goddamn finger to keep his interest or chase him. If he is not fighting everyday to keep you in his life, walk the hell out of it. The list goes on....

All I do is remind myself how lucky this man is to be spending time with me. I suffer from pretty bad (though not social) anxiety and can get worked up myself but going into it with that mentality really helps. Also without expectation, all you are there to do is feel this guy out. HE is the one who should be impressing YOU and not vice versa. Either he proves himself worthy, you get a good feeling and have fun, or not and then on to the next one. That is all I focus on for first dates. Red flag…

Living in a Scandinavian country myself and find it very difficult with men here. We are all about equality and men, in my opinion, act like women here. It is more than expected to split costs of dates, men rarely approach you unless they are super drunk (which makes OLD the seemingly only option) and the gender roles are very blurred. It seems common to just fuck around and “slip” into a relationship without the man making his intentions clear and taking charge of communication in that regard, …

Hahahaha, I had a guy tell me over an app the other day that he wouldn’t meet unless I sent a picture first to “prove” I was “real.” These men really think they’re doing us a service 😂

Show, don't tell. Wisest advice. Make a man come to conclusions about your value on his own, not by screaming "other guys talk to me!" in his face.
