As a recent experience, this is true. You would not believe some of the stories friends and family make up to gain money from you. Also, find out what the maximum amount is you can sue for at the small claims court - and never lend more than that. Recovering your money can be an expensive and time-consuming process. Small claims court make the process much easier.

I read all these comments before posting. One thing I would like to point out OP (and community) is that money, once you're making above 70K, is just a way to keep score. If your income is the same for more than 4 years, you might need fresh goals.
