Yeah, I actually had a lot of success on Tantan using English when I was in Beijing last year. I completely agree about the "just wanting to chat" issue and I got around that by just opening with some shitty joke about going on a date - 75% wouldn't send back but the few that did were down to meet. The problem is I'm living in a much lower tier city now and nobody here really speaks English (plus I don't want to speak English, I'm here to study Chinese :P), so I'm reliant on my Chinese and I gue…

Lol yeah, I'm just gonna see what I can manage with it. I'll post my experiences on here and hopefully it can help out any other blokes who head over. Yeah it's insane how well they actually learn English lol. One of my mates who moved to Sydney from over there, I reckon his vocabulary is wider than mine and I was a fucking law student for a while :/. Haha in looks mate. 5/10 with girls I'd be absolutely stoked! Indeed, along with Tiananmen Square it's in the 'don't talk about this basket' :/. L…

I'm trash with formatting but I'll try and reply to each of your points. Yeah, to clarify I am still quite a noob with the cold approach. I only started cold approaching when I was actually in Beijing so I'll keep practicing the next time I'm over there I reckon. This was sort of something I noticed. When I was at touristy places e.g. Forbidden City or a section of the Great Wall, you could tell they were way more receptive. Without fail girls would come ask me for photos, one even ran up yellin…

Yeah the materialistic point is definitely relevant here in Australia. It's something a lot of my HK mates talk shit about lol.

Did you go to uni in China? Or somewhere else in Asia? Yeah Idk man, I reckon it's the same with all demographics, good ones and bad ones everywhere.

Sweet, cheers for the reply mate. I'm gonna be in one of the smaller cities for a year next year studying mandarin on a scholarship. Any more tips you can give me? Is cold approaching on the street worth it or should I just stick to situational stuff?
