I'm just so fucking stunned every time I see the studies that "show" it has no effect. Does it matter? Absolutely the fuck not. Even if the foreskin had absolutely zero function and was purely cosmetic, it's still violating someone's rights to remove it without consent. The lack of empathy on this issue is mind-boggling and completely staggering.

Ugh, my ex loooooved to make comments about how feminists were morally superior to men's rights anything, and how you'd never see a feminist go into a male space and try to stir shit like guys did in woman's spaces. I went to MensRights for one day and the feminist shit stirring is everywhere. I'm not an anti-feminist like many of the guys there but damn do feminists try to cultivate a culture where they feel morally superior despite often being just as toxic as any extremist

Well that was a fucking disgusting read. "Male victims of DV and sexual assault don't exist, because they can't be victims because men aren't victimized because of their gender alone" Like, how lacking in empathy do you have to be to make that argument? Even if it were true it still doesn't hold weight.

If men cared about men then we wouldn't have circumcision, we wouldn't have men working their whole lives instead of being with their children and spouses, we wouldn't see men falling behind in school. There's a big false assumption that because men are in power they advance male interests. That's largely false. They advance their own interests, and the interests of their religions. Generally.

I'd counter to this that it's a bit deeper than that. Most feminists I've met who tout this line have, unfortunately, been victimized by men in the past. They seem to genuinely want the victimization to stop, but they focus a lot more on how society "allows" bad male behavior rather than how to fix it. So to them, any statistic showing men are perpetrating violence is something they feel you should be equally galvanized by. People who retort that men face most violence by other men tend to want …

I think the APA released some guidance to avoid language like this when working with male patients because they can be easily loaded terms.

Man, I hate this effect. My girlfriend was like this despite being a staunch feminist. I remember one time when we were together a very drunk and belligerent homeless guy came up to us and started doing the line of "hey beautiful" questioning. At that point I had no fucking clue what to do. Do I escalate the situation and "fight for her honor"? Well, prior to that I'd had endless discussions about white knighting and how toxic it was that men escalate things and fight all the time. Do I just let…

Shoot, I can't wait until this question becomes a non-starter, but it's so hard to see how that could even be possible. I mean, it's not like we spend a whole heck of a lot of time asking women what it means to be a woman? They just are, like men should be.

The main issue I see with this is that most people pull the "by other men!" thing not to immediately victim-blame folks, but as a stop-gap to try to sell an ideology. People who say it want you to jump on the bandwagon that men need to be taught to not be violent or whatever

I'm not sure if I morally agree with strategically withholding support for legitimate issues, but I agree about the intersectionality approach

Because they are actively making it harder to discuss male issues because they keep hyping up the gender war aspect of everything. Right now the pump is primed to make actual meaningful change for women but people like this are abusing that to make it seem like the only virtuous way to think is in ways that devalue men. It would be nice to ignore them if they weren't making everything worse for anyone who isn't their definition of a woman.

I truly don't understand what you're trying to push here. Are you legitimately saying that we should fear feminism because it's undemocratic and if given free reign feminists will institute gender quotas in all aspects of life? I can see it not being far fetched in business, but come on, it's kind of a stretch to assume that the American electorate wouldn't be completely up in arms about something like that.

I agree if you don't like the term you have every right to criticize it and ask that it not be used. But it's pretty damn clear to me that a lot of people will rage quit a discussion if they feel you are attacking any of the "base tenets" of their belief - and toxic masculinity is one of those for a lot of feminists. Why quibble on whether it's fair to put the word toxic next to masculinity when you can just say "toxic gender norms" and move on? It's knowing when to choose your battles, that's a…

By pushing for change regarding the views of women as leaders? I don't know about you but I know a lot of conservatives who still hang onto the notion that women are poor leaders who can't get anything done. Stating that feminists are pushing for gender quotas is putting the cart before the horse. I feel like most people want this change to happen organically.

I agree with their comments and line of reasoning. I see a lot of feminists coming in hot about how 50% of the government should be women but I hardly see them come out and say that we should not allow men to run or have "women-only" seats. If you want something to be angry about this is something I've seen a lot more in private business and they have every right to institute quotas there. I just don't see how everyone here is jumping from "feminists want equal representation of women in governm…

Stating "there should be more women in government" does not a quota make, and to my knowledge that's where most feminism sits. I also don't think "there should be a proportionate amount of women in office as the electorate" is so much of a quota as it is a statement that if everything was equal, we would see an equal number of qualified candidates from across ethnicities and genders.

I appreciate this not attacking toxic masculinity but rather subverting it. You lose a lot of people that otherwise would agree with your points as soon as you threaten the language that's used to talk about these things (no matter how much you understand the terms in their academic usage). I can't tell but it seems like some of these were highlighted off numbers themselves and not percentage of people interviewed, and some might attack that. I thought it was really crazy to see the last line th…

I've always thought that's interesting because I feel like it's always highly dependent on the character and I haven't reasoned through why. The idea of a black spiderman sounds awesome and I think the Miles Morales movie knocked it out of the park, but I can't really imagine a black Luke Skywalker for some reason. Not to say that couldn't or shouldn't happen though. Oddly enough I think this is one thing that will eventually only become more commonplace. Because of streaming Hollywood is taking…

Man, I completely don't understand why 25% of the user overlap is from freaking trollxchromosomes. There are SO many better feminist places to be on the internet then there. That place is FDS-lite for sure. I'd read twoxchromosomes any day over it - trollx gets proud misandrist memes every day. My ex-gf also posts a lot there - fun times! If you think I'm overreacting, take a look over there and imagine any similar thing being said about women. There's a difference between memeing social comment…

That concept of having to "play nice" utterly infuriates me and I don't think most feminists have any concept of how shitty it is to be held to higher standards all the fucking time. Sure, you might not get respect if you go out on a major tirade about how you hate men and masculinity but at least people will listen and feel like some of that anger is justified. You can say incredibly hateful things and people will assume you're just bitter. Do the same as a man and you are a threat, plain and s…

I have such mixed feelings about the whole "default gender" argument. Not with you, of course, just it's existence. Because it feels true about half the time. Sure, I can see that a lot of society and careers are thought of in terms of men as the default, but women also have their own categories where women are overwhelmingly assumed to be the default. For every policeman you have a nurse and all that. It's starting to get to the point where I feel like people are intentionally blinding themselv…

Gross. But she's probably right. Men will always treat women like saints. I think that's wrong. Women should be held to the same standards as men. Women aren't special. The only problem I have with this is that men are held to some pretty shitty standards and not all of those are worth carrying over. I imagine that goes without saying though. You can only imagine the true motivations behind this clip. Sorry, they don't get it. It's like "oh shit we've fucked up" but they don't truly care beyond …

I skimmed this and I hate how shocking it is to see women respond like this to men. I'm so used to an attitude of cold indifference, one that completely ignores any internal state of men and says "fix your broken shit and don't expect anyone to care about you while you do it". It shouldn't be shocking to have someone speak to men empathetically and acknowledging that a lot of hate/misogyny comes from a place of hurt and that kicking men while they are down may not be the best solution. It's a pa…

I get where you're coming from but it still comes off as dismissive. Like, no offense, but I'm definitely going to "believe women" when they are close trusted friends and have no reason to lie to me. These people weren't interested in court cases or jaded ex lovers, they are rape victims. Treating every guy at a bar as a threat is absolutely wrong, but taking precautions for yourself (not accepting drinks you didn't see the bartender pour, lids on drinks, stuff like that) is absolutely fair. Bot…

Those are separate statements. I'm saying just because a drug is legal doesn't mean it can't be abused or used nefariously. There's a huge gulf between "date rape is a big problem" and "the majority of the time people claim date rape and weren't actually drugged, so this seems overblown" I'm not sure if you are taking the stance of the latter sentiment, but it's a bit difficult to tell

So I'm absolutely not an expert in this but a trend I noticed on detransitioning spaces is that a very high number of detrans FtMtF people are on the autism spectrum. I think what can often happen is that women who don't act like women "should" are told "well maybe you're a man" and that can guide some of it. Other people I see there tend to have bought into the privilege arguments and see becoming a man as a way to escape misogyny and expectations of womanhood. Those people usually get a painfu…

You vastly underestimate how easily illegal drugs are obtained. I can assure you that within an hour you can obtain the funds, make an account, and place an order with an online distributor that will have a quarter pound of heroin at your doorstep by next week. The illegality of certain drugs does not hinder someone who wishes to use them.

no offense but as someone who's had several friends roofied before... this sounds real close to victim blaming. It's definitely possible that people get liquored up in unsavory manners or under pressure as well. This isn't a protest about how men are the worst and need to be taught not to do whatever, it's a protest about how the issue of being drugged needs to be taken seriously and we should have more protections against it. I've been told my whole life to watch my drinks at parties, I don't t…

I think what I'm trying to say is that biology is fixed but we've attributed social constructs, in general, to biologic trends. Like 200 years from now if there's no line drawn as to what's "manly" or "womanly", I think that trans people would absolutely exist and still transition. But because in our day and age the social constructs are heavily tied to biology part of a transition is socially adopting the behaviors expected of the transitioned sex

I think there's a difference between gender abolitionism and TERFs. Feeling dysphoria and that your brain doesn't match up to your body doesn't necessarily mean that the mannerisms and interests we've codified as masculine and feminine are a result of biology. To put it another way, if all of a sudden it was considered womanly to wear legwarmers then a lot of trans women would get dysphoria about it. In that case it's pretty evident that legwarmers are a social change associated with gender and …

Honestly I find that all difficult to deal with. Sometimes it feels like as a guy the expectations from you are to always think about others and their feelings (despite how much it's assumed that men don't have to do that, ever). So many feminists politicize their trauma... because they are allowed to. Not that that's a bad thing in and of itself, but I've noticed these people are often the type to neglect their own mental health and substitute more activism as a way to give themselves some reli…

I guess that's fair. It does feel a little weird at times that homosexuality took 50+ years to become marginally accepted by society and then transgender issues got integrated into the mainstream within 20. Not that I'm complaining about either, but it's interesting that technology may be spurring these kinds of movements from inception to completion much more quickly than they historically have gone. But agreed, at least on anecdotal examples. It's easy to repeat stuff that gets you social just…

That's... actually a really interesting take. Especially considering the actual radical parts of radical feminism are the ones that tend to garner the most criticism from other feminist groups. I'm curious though, how would you explain how the marketed "good" feminism accepts transfolk? That's a belief that absolutely challenges the status quo. While TERFs have certainly not failed at recruiting people, it seems they are losing the war on their views being espoused in the mainstream.

That's actually a huge frustration of mine and something that's ruined past relationships of mine. Try as I might people seem to mistake "bro code" as this weird male bias when it's really not that, and refuse to believe that there's not a big in-group bias among men. Someone posted a good comment here saying the men at the top of the system literally rely on the men below them to tear each other down so that they can stay at the top. Being male is essentially a life of proving yourself, not nec…
