Tangentially related: I had an ex that was upset that I urinated faster than him. I’m not kidding. If we were at an event and I came out of the bathroom before him he would accuse me of not washing my hands (ew). Then he tried to tell me it was impossible for a woman to pee faster because of physics, math, and urethra length.

When I started dating my first husband I would spend time at his apartment. I am naturally a night owl, and he would go to bed at a reasonable hour. So, I would just go to bed when he did. It’s really that simple.

I definitely agree with doing a phone date first. Doing that has saved me from two (probably) psychopaths. The first one wanted me to come over to his house for a first date while I was waiting for Covid test results. When I said no he told me he had at least forty first dates over to his house and hadn’t murdered any of them. The second guy started out funny, but outed himself as a soulless, racist finance bro when he told me teachers should try to get in at private schools because “ghettos don…

You don’t owe anyone an explanation. I got guilt tripped into attempting it with a previous partner and it was AWFUL. And he didn’t stand by the agreements we made and lied anyway, repeatedly. Echoing what other posters said— it’s a way to shortcut having to be vulnerable because there’s always someone else waiting. And there are only so many minutes in a day. I like to spend my small amount of free time with my partner. I choose monogamy because I refuse to share my life with a man who’s greate…

I’m loving these! • His highest aspiration in life was to be community dick, and he guilt tripped me whenever I pushed back on being poly. • Had the most disgusting house I have ever seen. Let his teenage children do all the cleaning and blamed them for the mess. • Hung up on exes that refused to talk to him but didn’t understand why (I’m an ex that blocked and deleted him, I totally get why). • Had tons of money- did all his shopping at grocery liquidation places. • proposed to me with no ring …

Well well well, if it isn’t the consequences of the patriarchy’s own actions. The men didn’t get socialized, taught to feel their feelings, or connect with other humans. Instead they’ve been performing masculinity for each other and they’re trash.

I haven’t come up with a sure fire test for it. It’s just constant vetting. Like I dated a guy that talked a big game about how he made space for women to speak at his job and “passing the mic” but he interrupted me constantly. Mostly actions not matching words.

They’re hideous (either physically or mentally) so they had to develop an extra manipulative personality to get what they wanted. Then they realized they couldn’t keep up the lovebombing facade past six months, so the next logical step is to churn through a constant supply. I have yet to meet a securely attached mentally stable poly dude. ETA: this actually might explain why so many of them are narcs.

Portland men are trash. Portland OLD men are extra trash. Case in point: met a guy on OLD who wanted to “spoil me” and make me dinner at his house before we even met in person. When I demurred and said I wasn’t comfortable with it this man CALLED ME, explained that he had been on bad dates too and stuck them out (one time a woman showed up less slender than her picture! gasp). When I reiterated my safety concern he told me he has had at least 30-40 women over on first dates and “didn’t murder an…

I’ve been single for almost a year. Three months ago I decided to try dating again — that lasted a month. The quality of people on OLD is just awful. It was a huge drain and felt like work, so I just stopped. Personally, I’ve realized I have everything I need. I make good money, I have great friends, and I have interesting hobbies. Just realizing that has been really freeing.

So ask yourself if your high sex drive is really a high emotional intimacy drive and has society conditioned you to get that through physical intimacy? I too thought I had a high sex drive and tried keeping a roster of hook-ups and found it very unfulfilling. When I started unpacking my shit and doing the work I found that it was more society conditioning me to seek intimacy from men, and the only intimacy most men know is sex. Seek fulfilling friendships, keep doing the work on yourself. Invest…

The faux woke anti-capitalism that comes out when it’s time to spend money on other people is a major red flag. If a dude “doesn’t do” holidays and birthdays and gives some bullshit about it being made up- that’s a no from me. Literally everything is “made up.” That’s what humans do. We collectively decide to celebrate something. No holidays are “real” in the sense these dudes complain about. I think it’s a sign of someone who is way too self-involved to get why it might be important to someone …

Yup. They will destroy the relationship, and you if you let them. A HVM is one that has done the work and has an appropriate sense of their self-worth. And they should derive this sense of self worth from the inside. People that don’t have this leave trails of hurt partners and destroyed relationships.

I had a revelation about the mind-blowing sex with narcs thing: it’s not them, it’s me. I bring the mind-blowing part by being attached and in love with my partner. They aren’t doing anything special, I’m just feeling things intensely.

Poly is a scam. I’ve written about my experience with it before but basically he had crazy commitment issues, liked having the benefit of my time and attention but still wanted to sleep around. He used some serious word salad to shame me for wanting to be monogamous, tried to institute a one penis policy, flew into jealous rages and then denied that’s what it was. I have yet to meet a 10 year poly couple. Or a 5 year one for that matter. It’s always a train wreck.

This is giving me flashbacks to an ex that once went on a bathroom rampage and combined all the various soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and face washes into one mega container because he thought his teenage daughter was too conceited about her hair and looks. He combined my hair/face products I had left there into it as well.

Asking a man how he would care for a sick person could be a good vetting question. First husband was high value in this area. I had surgery in my early 20s with a long recovery and he absolutely doted on me and took care of everything. Since then I’ve had men who: *did zero postpartum house help *wouldn’t come home from work to take care of our children when the entire house (except him) had the flu. *believed that a sick family member should be confined to their room and left alone (ie not fed …

The thing about OLD is you lack social context for this other person. You can only see what they are presenting or pretending to be. Are there good men on OLD? Maybe. Probably not right now though.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy03/02/21 04:14 PM
20

Not using OLD was one of the FDS rules I was most skeptical of in the beginning, but now I agree wholeheartedly. My “good” (and great) relationships came from meeting someone in real life. OLD got me an abusive narcissist dressed up like a nice guy. Every now and then I log into OLD and it’s a dumpster fire of low quality men. No one worth having is dating during a pandemic.

You should never be afraid to lose anyone to the point that you become someone you’re not, that part is true. However, some of us have trauma and might feel this all the time because of how we grew up or what we experienced in life. If I ended a relationship every time I felt that I wouldn’t have had any. The key, for me at least, is not acting on it, and working to recognize what a healthy relationship dynamic is.

Like had a bad day that had nothing to do with me and wouldn’t look at me or acknowledge me. - he lied to me So yeah, in retrospect I should have just fucking left the first time because that shit didn’t change.

I would. I did with my ex. And it was a point of contention because he didn’t want me looking at his stuff. And on his stuff there turned out to be a bunch of lying about shit- other women. Openly complaining about me to other people. He the code to my phone from several months in and could just pick it up and look at whatever. I never got “caught” because I wasn’t hiding anything.

Had an ex that would get pissed if I was too “interested” in what was going on on his screens. Guess what happened? Caught him lying to me about three other women. Caught him complaining about me to family members.

My opinion is they’re not doing the hard work to figure out why the last relationship ended and instead tromping right into repeating the same pattern with a new person. The poor new person has no idea about the baggage they are dragging into the relationship. These men (and women) should be avoided.

My biggest pet peeve is men who try to negotiate me out of things that I believe by showing me what I “really” believe. For instance I’m monogamous so that must be because I have a deep need to be irreplaceable and the center of someone’s world and am somehow damaged and letting trauma rule me. So, to negotiate me out of that belief he shows me how selfish and wrong it is and then offered some poor substitute for it like social media selfies together. So much wasted energy.

I once told an ex that I went two years in between relationships without any sex. From the look on his face you would have thought I admitted to something utterly horrific and impossible.

It’s my copay. What my insurance was putting out was much, much more. On the bright side therapy is eventually what led me to assert my boundaries more firmly and say “fuck this shit”.

I doesn't even count the cost of clothes, makeup, shoes. I'm sure there are other things I've forgotten too.

It's funny you posted this - I've been thinking on this same thing. I spent the past few days thinking about how I spend my time now that I'm single. I came to the conclusion that I am so much less *stressed* these days. I started thinking about it in terms of my free time. How much of my actual physical time and mental time (and my financial time) I gave to my ex. Looking back on it - he got a LOT of it and my life, as well as my inner life got neglected. I've had time to slow down and think ab…

This is wildly, sadly accurate. Had one ex try to use my sexuality as a guilt tool because I wouldn't accept a non-monogamous relationship. He thought that non-monogamous was his "orientation" like bisexual was mine. Thought it was a pass for him to be a lech in public and point out women he thought I would like. It grossed me the eff out. Thought it meant that he could ask to date another woman together with me and have threesomes. I recently (pre FDS) disclosed it to a man I went on a date wit…

I’m a working mother. I’m also halfway through a degree I have paid for my own damn self. I’ve promoted three times in the past two years.

This was great! I think this is really applicable to anyone looking for a partner. Mutual respect and holding emotional space for each other is important.

Oof. That sounds like my ex being emotionally manipulative by insinuating he thought I was really close to being emotionally abusive when I’d react “badly” to some shitty behavior he had. I hear ya. I’m having a hard time with it too. Like, am I crazy? Did I misinterpret everything? But the further away I get from the relationship the more emotionally sober I feel. Having a journal really helps as well. The hardest part is accepting they’re never going to see how shitty they were because they we…

I recently broke up with someone I think at the very least had narcissist tendencies or was a vulnerable narc. It’s been like waking up from a nightmare I didn’t know I was having. The relationship was bewildering. He’s spun this narrative of the breakup where he’s the victim of me thinking that he’s the worst all the time and he’s so exhausted by it. I broke up with him because he repeatedly lied to me and was a weak whiny little bitch when confronted about it. This is why block and delete is s…

Came across my ex’s OLD. In addition to being FULL of pictures I took of him on significant dates in our relationship (anniversary, Christmas, vacations), he has his height being listed as 6’4”. He’s 6’3”. Like... why???? He lied about so many things when we were together by basically putting a spin on the thing he was telling me. His kids were “free range” = he was too wrapped up in himself to pay attention to them.

You know, I’ve always kind of feministly rolled my eyes at “happy wife, happy life” - but... yeah. Most of the long, happy relationships I’ve observed really do live by the motto. Some of the men make good natured jokes about it, but they really do want to make their wives happy by pleasing them.

kickhimout2020 update: Broke up with my LVM fiancé a few weeks ago. I had found FDS a few months prior and realizing I was being SO pickme with him and the entire relationship ruined it for me. He masqueraded as a HVM for the first 6 months or so- planned dates, prioritized my pleasure in bed, but it was all in pursuit of getting me to agree to be non-monogamous. When I refused the sex got very low effort and he started having insane mood swings. He had the most disgusting house I’ve ever seen. …

I dated this, got engaged to it even. He stole a year of my life and I felt bewildered and stressed out the entire time. He blamed me for our relationship being an emotional roller coaster. Thankfully, towards the end I found FDS and started to put together that it was bullshit. Then I caught his ass on Tinder and he tried to blame me for not listening to his needs. Never again.
