No no no. Codecademy just gets you started on the super low-level basics. From there you can branch out to more tutorials and try to build something actually robust, modular, and scalable. Codecademy won't teach you design patterns and software architecture. That comes with diving into professional projects, reading theory, and best practices, etc. Codecademy is like showing you how to hammer a nail, doesn't mean you can build a house. You kind of have to be passionate about it, right? Instead of asking how long does it take, as if you're asking about the line at the DMV, just tell yourself you're going to take 5 minutes and start learning Javascript. Start learning it, don't get frustrated when you can't figure something out, find the answer, keep going. If you don't enjoy it, whether it's the process or the end result, find something else.

So I really digged at College here only because it's the biggest excuse I hear from lack of success. You really don't need it. BUT that's not to say it doesn't help. I would say unfortunately that it definitely does help to have a degree for whatever reason on your resume. But a good portfolio/network can trump that pretty easily. A real company with good tech HR's know to look for talent and a good portfolio. I'd recommend college for those who were like myself, solely for the social aspect. I …

I'm a web developer and I google shit all day for specific answers. But googling something as broad as "healthy meal plan" or "how to be a web developer" will get you nowhere near the answers from a certified professional. I'm going to ask the guy who does it every day. Of course, he doesn't have to and I don't expect him to, but someone that likes what they do typically enjoys talking about it and teaching others. He offered that one guy, right? Knowledge is power. Worth a shot.

Do you think you could start a thread about diet? We all typically learn a lifting routine, strong lifts, etc. but every PT knows how important diet is and the average lay person never seems to be on the same page (or any page.) An example meal plan for a week for instance would be great. Bulking vs cutting diets, etc.
