Could you link or DM it? Isn’t that arrest the one he’s referring to in his suicide note? Edit: oh wait, I forgot his note said this happened two weeks ago, not in September.

How long ago was he arrested for DV? This is another arrest?

My boyfriend brought me to an expensive restaurant for our first date. And we’re still together. Another guy took me to a fast food place once. That didn’t last. It’s not about money. It’s about the thought.

I understand there are protections, and thank you for your concern. I expected the backlash when I commented this. I was just trying to say I don’t think all women are brainwashed. He and I have each other in our life insurance policies and are writing wills, and we will likely elope one day when I’m not dealing with pregnancy. I just don’t necessarily agree that women who choose to have babies out of wedlock are desperate for the man to propose or anything. He proposed and I told him I wanted t…

Thank you for your concern, but both of our parents are going to be helping us in town, and our families are close. He’s 40 and runs a business and is extremely loyal to me. I vetted him for years before even deciding to get pregnant, and we’re on each other’s life insurance plans and are writing wills. I’ll just elope when I feel like I’m ready to. He wants to get married, and my point was that I’m not brainwashed just because I’m having a kid out of wedlock.

I’m pregnant and living with my boyfriend, but he’s already proposed and I’ve said no. We have been together for years. He pays all of the bills and is a clean freak and is very loving toward me. I might be the exception, but I don’t see marriage as a bigger commitment than having a baby. I’m just not religious and I don’t want a wedding because I hate the spotlight. I probably sound like an idiot, but I’m in my mid 30s and the idea of marriage has never really interested me. Who knows, maybe I’…

Yay! :) :) Yes, I think I want to wait until I feel like that time is right for me, to be married to him. I hate planning parties! To me, it's more about our connection than everyone else I know.

Two years. I know him pretty well and we do get along, but sometimes we miscommunicate, and I want to go to some therapy first before we tie ourselves to each other for life.

My boyfriend proposed in January and I said we weren’t ready. I’m not interested in having a wedding. Maybe eloping. So for me, I’d rather just wait until the moment we’re ready to elope. Maybe I’m nuts, but my parents have been fighting for 30 years and I want to make sure my boyfriend and I have solid communication skills before we make that commitment. I’m either afraid of divorce or afraid of becoming my parents, I guess.

My boyfriend proposed on our 2nd year anniversary but I told him we need more time. Just because someone isn’t engaged doesn’t mean the man hasn’t proposed before? I am just someone who really wants to thinks something through before making big decisions.

Yeah, I know, I wasn’t really into him which is why I didn’t care what I said. I think I just didn’t want him to take it personally because I was essentially breaking it off. If he had tried to say anything manipulative about the abuse, I wasn’t that interested to make it work.

I said this to one guy because I was nervous dating again. We had gone on a few dates and I finally admitted to him that I’d been through an abusive relationship and wasn’t ready yet because I was scared of men. What did he do? Jumped out of the car and literally STOMPED away like a toddler. It was weird. He texted to apologize later, but whatever, I haven’t seen him since.

Honestly, I think if men can write tons of songs about relationships without criticism, women shouldn’t get criticized for writing about their relationships. Plus, she makes a shit ton of money doing so.

I know you wrote this months ago, but I just came across it. I'm about to turn 34 and met someone who is financially stable, as am I, and he has many nephews and nieces that he takes care of and is caring toward. We've been together for two years. But I'm worried about getting married and being legally tied to someone. Reading FDS makes me feel like an idiot for feeling this way, and I worry that I am getting myself into a bad situation if I get pregnant without being married, but your comment m…

I understand, thank you. He said he wants to get married, but I'm scared to after seeing my parents fight for 34 years. He is definitely the one who cleans and cooks and pays for everything, and he never pressures me to have sex if I'm not feeling well. I've lived with another boyfriend before who was awful, so I was really skittish to live with one again, but he is really truly a wonderful guy.

Oh I didn’t mean it that way, oops. He’s never asked. He just said he would feel bad if I paid and refuses to let me if I offer.

Thank you. Yeah, he doesn’t want me paying for anything and feels bad asking. We’ve discussed eloping but haven’t done it yet. I read FDS and get paranoid that if I don’t get married I can’t trust him (even though he’s shown time and time again that I can trust him). Just trying not to worry!

Okay. I don’t really want to get married, but he has thoroughly expressed his commitment to me in a multitude of ways. I feel weird getting married just so I know he won’t leave me… when I don’t really like the idea of marriage myself.

I definitely have friends whose husbands are zero help at home, and I think instead of just saying no to marriage, women need to be more careful before accepting a proposal. There are some decent guys out there, and it's too bad they're so rare nowadays. Luckily, I'm with a man who goes above and beyond cleaning, caring for his mom and sisters, and giving more to me than I always give back. I understand, thank you. I've spent time on the wrong guys, and I totally get why women on here feel discouraged. I have felt that way for a long time, and fortunately I've found someone who's proven he can be trusted. I just feel sad thinking that if I get married to him, I'm shooting myself in the foot or something. I'll check that out, thank you!

I want to have children, and my boyfriend is very respectful and kind toward me, so these kind of posts make me feel confused about what to do. Do I avoid getting married? Do I have children unwed? Do I just not have kids? I feel like I can’t win either way.

My boyfriend’s nephew is 18 and is meeting 18 year old women on Tinder to go “stargazing” and he brings condoms. These women send him “tit and ass” pictures before even meeting him. My boyfriend, who is 39, tried to talk to him about respecting women and taking things slow, but his nephew just laughs him off. I posted this because it irked me to see what some of the male customers said as the bartender was snooping. One guy said she wanted him to look because she didn't have a passcode on her phone. Ugh! I immediately thought of FDS. Be careful of who you trust!

When we broke up, he flaunted his new relationship all over social media, so he probably thinks I’m single because I made everything private and don’t brag like he does. I’m in love with someone else now... it’s been 2 freaking years!! My ex is broke, bald, and an alcoholic. I wasn’t heartbroken that someone else started taking care of him! 😂

I was dating a guy for 6 months, and he brought up politics at dinner. I disagreed with his viewpoint about Elizabeth Warren and started explaining why I think she'd be an excellent candidate, and he told me to stop screaming in the restaurant and that everyone was staring. I’ve been in a situation like this. It will get worse. You can find someone who loves you exactly the way you are. He is out there, and this guy is not him. The right man will love every part of you. This show has affected my self-image. The contestants used to be over 30 and have careers, but now they are 20-year-old “content creators,” whatever that means, and some will call slightly older contestants cougars. If women that young want to get Botox and fillers, fine, but seeing them has certainly made me feel worse about myself. Then the men choose the hottest one, not necessarily the one who is best for him. Peter’s season (the Peter who still lives with his parents) was especially hard to…

Break up with him instead. My ex-boyfriend snooped through my phone and then threw it across the room when I caught him. There was nothing on it. I wasn't cheating. I was pissed that he was looking without asking.

Men on Reddit love to say that everyone in FDS are "incels" without even reading our posts. The problem is that we get abused and used for sex, not that we are starving for sex.

Reading this comment about our subreddit was very frustrating: https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/hi3oht/update_to_our_content_policy/fwea3r1/ I believe this subreddit praises men who treat their girlfriends/wives with respect. It just also points out when men are jerks, and unfortunately they are jerks all too often. Pointing out someone's behavior does not mean we are spreading hate. And encouraging women to date men who have a proven track record of being responsible and hard-w…

The video is from YouTube and is his Instagram Live that was streamed yesterday. First, he elbows her in the side and then continues to snap at her the whole time in front of a live audience. I’ve been in an abusive relationship before and wouldn’t be surprised if he was rough with her off camera. I thought it would be helpful for women to see those subtle cues that a man uses to control his wife. I'm not finding it attractive either, and it's bothering me because he's such a nice guy. He's taking me on dates and paying for everything and got me flowers, etc. etc. I have a history of dating jerks, so I'm trying to stick it out and see what happens, but it's getting harder.

I’m getting annoyed with all the “libfem” posts. I’m liberal and a feminist and am not doing this act nor condoning it. Can we stop using these labels to bash people with certain political views? One can believe women should have equal rights without masturbating to gross porn. This feels like a way to bash women, but we should be looking out for each other and lifting each other up. A lot of this sexual freedom stems from men making us feel like we’re only good for that.

I find it annoying that he’s blaming his alcoholism for his divorce with Jen Garner, yet it was his cheating that led to their split. She put up with a lot of his addictions before that. She stayed way longer than she should have, and she’s still taking care of him now. He should take responsibility for cheating on her for years!

I did this with two old men who were trying to flirt with me at the grocery store today. I just was super cold and didn't answer them and then walked away. I think a lot of women feel pressure to be "polite" and will just go with it even if men are weird or creepy or annoying.

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy20/02/20 10:51 PM

I understand, but this was my way of saying no. I wasn’t trying to teach him how to score, I was just trying to explain that I wasn’t buying it. His response “Fair enough” shows me he knew exactly what he was doing.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy20/02/20 05:57 PM

And seriously, he said “hope we can meet” like three other times already. I’ll reply “Sure, what do you have in mind?” and I’ll get back “Hi again, hope we can meet sometime! When will you be up in my area?” Dear lord. I unmatched him.

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy28/01/20 07:49 PM

I’m not saying I want to get back together with him. I don’t even live near him. I’m just wondering if he was mad at me that day over the lack of sex, not dishes. Dishes just seemed like an absurd thing to get mad about (sex is too).
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy28/01/20 02:22 PM
12

Thanks. I’ve dated a few guys since then and got over him quickly, so I guess I was feeling guilty that I blocked him and thought I was overreacting. I was also probably curious what he was up to. Big mistake I know now!
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy28/01/20 02:06 PM
27

I think he was upset I didn’t show up and throw myself all over him. We’re both kind of on the shy side, so I’m wondering if he used dishes as an excuse to be mad at me but was actually mad I wasn’t living up to his expectations in other ways.

My ex posted a private mushy handwritten note from me to him RIGHT AWAY on Facebook, and I was so embarrassed. I asked him to take it down and he got pissed. Later he cheated on me with someone else and posted about her immediately on FB calling her the love of his life. Ew.

I would like that, too, honestly.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy28/01/20 03:39 AM

Beck was right to feel trapped and smothered by him, as any sane person would be. I could tell right away that Love might be obsessive like him based on the fact that she kissed him first several times and was really putting the pressure on him to date her. I knew that she'd be revealed to be a nut by the end.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy26/01/20 06:54 PM

That sucks. She should leave him home next time.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy26/01/20 02:46 AM

Thank you. I do think it's inconsiderate for her to say that in front of me when I'm making zero advances on her LVM.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/01/20 11:36 PM
2

Thanks, that makes sense. The worst part was that it wasn’t her house, it was our other co-worker’s. That’s why it was so awkward because none of us knew how to get them to go home besides keep offering rides. They just kept fighting and wouldn’t leave lol
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/01/20 06:14 PM
2

Okay thank you. I’ll just try to avoid this in the future and let her figure it out.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/01/20 05:52 PM
1

I’m 32 and have been teaching for ten years, so I’m not too new to this stuff. I’ve never encountered a couple fighting in front of me though, so maybe I’ll just make an excuse to leave next time they do it. Usually us girls just play trivia games and keep it pretty low key. What’s nice about our staff is that it’s very close and we don’t have the political backstabbing going on.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/01/20 05:43 PM
2

Just curious, why do you say that? I do see my co-workers a lot outside of work... just my female co-workers that I teach in the same hallway with. We tend to go to trivia and game nights together, and it's been fine until this started.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/01/20 05:00 PM
7

Thanks for the advice. I hang out with her about 2-4 times a week, so I'd say we're becoming closer than co-workers, but I don't know if I'm close enough to say "Um, the fighting in front of everyone is getting out of control. If you're this unhappy, break up with him." I'll just have to keep my mouth shut I guess. I can tell this is hard on all of our co-worker group, not just me. It's very awkward when they start bickering in front of us.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/01/20 04:57 PM
6

Oh yes, thanks. I only see him when I'm with her, and we don't spend time alone together. He's also quiet most of the time and just lets her do most of the talking, so I'm not too concerned about him coming onto me. She will say things like "Oh, do you want to go home with her tonight instead of me?" if he even acknowledges me, so it's a little tense. I usually only see them with all of our work friend group, not just them alone.

yes, it was one of the most awkward evenings I've experienced. And I have to go back to work with these people on Monday.

Thanks, that makes sense. They were fighting about me, too, because she's suspicious when he's around other girls (even though he hasn't hit on me), so I'm starting to feel incredibly awkward when I hang out with them because I don't want to be dragged into their disputes. I want to help her because I've been through this kind of toxic relationship before, but I also don't want her accusing me of trying to steal her boyfriend.

It says: “‘The connection was so strong that he made me feel seductive, and he spoke about sex and my body in a way that made me feel powerful, at least physically. [But] I constantly worried that I wasn’t smart enough for him.’ The pop star was at the time known as being a 'dumb blonde' due to her reality series, Newlyweds, where a clip asking if her tuna was ‘chicken or fish’ made her the butt of endless jokes. ‘He was so clever and treated conversation like a friendly competition that he had …

This sort of happened to me. A guy asked me to come back to his house after a first date to pet his dog. I politely said no and never went out on a second date with him. Months later, he tried to ask me out again, and I explained why I didn’t want to, and he flipped out. He told me I must have imagined that because he’d never ask a girl to pet his dog. Right, sir.

I just ended someone who sounds soooooo similar to this guy. It’s hard because I wonder if I’m being too critical, but I have to remind myself that if he’s showing these qualities now it’s just going to be ten times worse later.

I just broke up with a guy who has a PhD but hasn’t had a job related to his field since he graduated. He just does handyman work and lives rent free with an older lady and sleeps all the time. I was like wtf is this.

This will not hurt him. It’ll show him you care about him because you’re taking the time to get his clothes back to him and to write him a letter. Cutting off all contact will hurt him.

I would 100% not leave him a letter. I’ve done this before and it doesn’t work. The guy just doesn’t care, and you’ll feel embarrassed later that you went through that effort. It’s more powerful to cut off contact and just be cordial if you see him.

I just blocked a guy so I wouldn’t sit around waiting for him to text me. I figured it would be easier to move on that way. If I didn’t block him, I’d wonder why he wasn’t texting to make up and then probably get anxious about the whole thing.

A few years ago, I met someone who wanted to take selfies with me right away. Then he posted one a month into dating me. The dude I just broke up with always goes on about his neglectful and critical parents every chance he gets, yet he’s also very critical of me. He also complains about being bullied a lot in school yet puts down everyone he knows, including friends. After awhile, the negativity was too much. I can’t be with someone who bitches all the time and then takes his anger out on me.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy30/12/19 09:57 AM

I think he just wanted a kid because all of his friends were having one. I doubt he even pays child support or anything to the woman he impregnated. He’s very narcissistic and probably convinced her that they’re friends and co-parenting. She seems like an idiot.

I went backpacking in Europe, and the day I left, my boyfriend at the time was spending time at the beach with a new girl he had just met (even though he had just told me that he loved me as I got onto the airplane). This is such a good definition of gaslighting.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy28/12/19 02:05 AM

I told my ex over and over that I didn’t want to videotape us having sex. I also didn’t send him any nude photos when he kept asking. What did he do? He secretly photographed me in the shower for months (without my knowledge) and also drugged me and tried to film his dick entering me while I was semi-unconscious. Thank god his phone died when that happened, but the next day he dumped me because I couldn’t have sex for ten hours straight (because I was falling asleep).

I think guys like this do these grand gestures for themselves more than for us. My dad buys my mom chocolate and treats once a week and has always done it out of love, not to make himself feel like an excellent husband.

My ex left me for someone nine years younger (a month after he convinced me to get a high energy puppy together), but then texted me and said I looked beautiful and he wants to have sex when he sees me and couldn't we just meet up and hug one last time. Ugh, what a creep! I feel bad for her more than anything. Five months later, I heard that he got a new puppy with her.
