I'm not against dating. However, it doesn't make sense at this time for me. I think it's a terrible idea to put yourself out there solely to start dating. I did that before i made a great single life and I wasted time and emotional energy. I think it's better to live your life and if someone interesting who checks off all or at least most of your boxes comes along, awesome. I think it's reasonable to be suspicious of all men and not put your happiness in that cart. Besides there are times many o…

I bought one for the toughest jars. I have used the tap the side of the lid method, but some jars are beyond help. My storage room is the envy of the few men who've seen it. I think they thought, "Hmm, she doesn't really need me." They feel embarrassed for themselves and should be.

I've been deliberately celibate for a while. I know FDS is about dating, but I think it's important to enjoy being single rather than being in a state between men. Since I've been going without, I've reignited my hobbies and made my place beautiful. I had had a low key fancy for a particular man who is unavailable (from afar). However, in building my life and my place, I can't bear to think of giving my lifestyle up for someone like him no matter how HVM he appears to be. I still admire him, but…

I get scared when places that usually have some amount of noise, crickets, wind etc go completely silent. I've been in places where there's no echo when there should be one. I usually take off. I think that animals and insects can tell when a predator is around based on smell and movements and go silent. I have no proof and I don't want to get proof in this situation.

I feel sorry for young women. I am constantly appalled at the lack of grooming and hygiene in young men. I think the major turning point started around 2010. Makes it super easy not to want to be a cougar lol. Having said that, older men aren't much better since men don't age very well.

Indeed. When I saw my results I laughed. My daughter said, "Nailed it!" My brother got the complete opposite. One time there was a girl who hated him in college (very unusual-my brother id genuinely likeable), so he called me and asked, "How do you deal with being hated?" But I've mellowed over the years and the warrior didn't stop me from having an anxiety disorder. Shakiest gun in the west.

I think this is evolutionary. The only thing men have over women is their size and strength. So they overrelied on instilling fear and obedience in women to extract services. Thus that part of most of their brains that inhibits distractions and impulsiveness are undereveloped. Just an armchair guess. I'd love to see if science backs this up. Interesting thing about DNA is the so-called "warrior" vs "worrier" gene which consists of 3 main markers ( likely more). I'm a triple warrior. Having those…

You are right. The feeling of liberation after pining over a man is something we don't discuss. We've all been there in various ways. Our days wasted with the whys, will he come back, blah. Then boom, you realize you had forgotten to think about him. That realization is like abottle of champagne 🍾.

As a kid, I preferred Warner Bros and Hanna Barbera. When I became an adult, I realized that the Flintstones (HB) was mainly about 2 LVM husbands trying to cheat on their hot wives Wilma and Betty. Warner Bros is more in your face sexist, but not as insidious as Disney which hides it under fluff and "wholesomeness."

In theory, I agree. In practice, it depends on the social acceptance of women daring to accuse men in a culture. It also depends on the STATUS of the woman reporting it. I'm white, relatively middle class. Women like me are more likely to believed than WOC or poor white women in the US. It also depends on the situation and the potential backlash harm. Ultimately must be addressed collectively. I get that the more women report the more likely something will come of it. I don't have a remedy, but …

Social observation: I'm older Gen X. At my previous workplace, most people were millennials or even Zoomers. I found it bizarre that the young guys thought gaming was a marketable skill. While I heard there are a few competitive gamers who make a lot of money, most don't. The young women seemed pretty similar to the young women I grew up with. There weren't any obvious pickmes. Always vet, check references and initial attitude. Anyone who works in your home should be polite, neutral and have a busy schedule. The most frightening and at the same time funny experience was when 2 men were sent from a home warranty company to repair my water line. When they got there both were trying to sound like Strother Martin in "Cool Hand Luke." The refused to do work and made fun of me for having them come out. That's a smart business decision. Chances are you ended up spending a to of time chasing after those nickels and dimes while missing opportunities. My therapist said I needed to stop tolerating bad behavior every time it happens. I used to think that was being mean although I never tolerated certain behaviors. We all have the right to reject or accept people's behavior.

I knew a couple young women like this in my youth who were always hanging out with guys and would chomp gum and give sneering knowing looks at their girlfriends. I always wondered if they were side chicks like those "Little Sisters" of frat houses. They think they have inside intel on the guys when they're oblivious to how they're mocked behind their backs.

Back in the 70s and 80s I never used to be able to smell men unless it was after doing a construction project or working out. Now I can smell them from a picture. It seems like young men have regressed into a middle school "I hate girls. I refuse to bathe. Who's going to take care of me" stage but coupled with a porn driven sex drive. The future is now and I just shake my head.

Same here. The men would always ask when the slut walk was. The fact that the Slut Walk where women empower themselves by protesting while being scantily clad in bondage wear and lingerie weirdly went over their heads. Not sure how . . . . . I suggest not bringing up personal likes or dislikes more to protect yourself from emotional harm. When you asked about restaurants it sounded to me like a leading question. If you don't get an enthusiastic reaction or if this doesn't progress the connection, you'll end up hurt just ask me how I know ;-). Keep driving in the completely professional lane. Even if he does ask personal questions, be a bit vague. It's actually more attractive this way anyway. You want to flip the energy.

It lays out the issue, but I didn't notice any mention of how men need to control themselves. The author is only offering up types of consent for women to use when many men brush away a woman's concerns even as she's screaming. Or those forms of consent end up being fetishized.

I thinks she has a good heart. She is being widely praised for her kindness and forgiveness especially. I'm very negative about the forgiveness concept except in low-conflict situations. People in relationships usually put their best foot forward then a lot of them get lazy and indifferent. Why is this so hard for people to understand. It's suspect when a man says that because it's a pat answer. They never explain how she's crazy. Whenever I hear this, I respond in sympathy for the ex."Oh no, we're you able to get help with her mental health issues?" Then they'd sputter the actual truth- she wanted a commitment, he had needs, etc.

This is the Oprah effect. Backstory, I was a fan of Oprah since the 80s until her show turned into encouraging everyone to share vulnerabilities in front of an audience. Excellent points! It's important to never go beyond the allotted time on a date. It's also best if there is a schedule mix up on his part to cancel not go for the alternate plan even if the alternative sounds better. The alternative is never better. Move on. I (white) went to a huge university with a sizeable black population where their sororities and fraternities had more prestige. Homecoming, Step Dance competitions, and other activities that white people didn't do became required for even white groups because they wanted to keep up. This was back in the 80s in a very segregated state. It was pretty remarkable seeing wealthy white frat guys and sorority girls from the suburbs trying to emulate black people not as a form of cultural appropriation …

Sometimes when my daughter starts to ask a question about a man I'd just say don't. I ask her why she needed to confirm what she already knew. It can be reassuring but discounting your intuition can be too late. I'll always discuss it, but she just needs to go with her gut. So for the OP I ask as we all need to ask ourselves why do we need to confirm water is wet? If you need to ask a relationship question you already know the answer? Why can't we trust our guts? If we err when we trust our guts…

I think a good portion LV men's most egregious behaviors is due to homosocialization. They will do anything for attention from other men. Until a man no longer succumbs to peer pressure from men, they will never be HV. If an LV man can't achieve in another man's eyes in a socially legitimate way like in business, sports, community leadership, etc. or just being a decent man which is hard to find, he will achieve by adhering to the pack hierarchy and its base norms like a squealing simpering pup,…

When I was considering a husband in my youth, my major deal breaker was a man who watched sports even sometimes. Everyone thought i was crazy. They said I had to pretend to like sports to catch a man. My ex husband played high school football but never watched sports. He was a nerd. He thought it was insane how men would dress up in jerseys and watch after never having played in their lives. That was one of the HV traits he had though sadly he had LV traits too.

Wow! She said something that was in the back of my mind for years about men. Men love other men more than women regardless of sexuality. What stood out on the Twitter thread is the comment about men glamorizing singlehood while dating their "true love." I don't think a lot of these men really love the one that got away. I think they get these realizations about the joy they felt with a woman but missed out because they have to slay dragons (sleep with a lot of women) but usually can't because they're not as attractive as they thought, get desperate and settle for the nearest woman who will tolerate them. Many said just that. They…

I noted on another post that I never heard about ED in young men until now. That wasn't on anyone's radar in the 80s when I was a teen. The boys were always trying to cover their boners with books. Premature ejaculation was the main problem. I think PE probably doesn't exist anymore except in populations without internet porn. Thanks for your response. My main complaint about Brene Brown is the same one I have about pop psychology in general. I believe clinicians have a responsibility of setting a serious, professional tone rather than a convivial tone when they go public with their findings and expertise so that people investigate further rather than trying something out because it's touted as helpful without context. However serious doesn't sell books or gain advertising.

I've often thought Brene Brown's social work focused on the analyzing and remedying the anxieties of upper-class white people who don't have enough problems. Her approach is too broad. I was panicking for a week until I got my results. I celebrated by crying tears of joy. That's all I needed. Go and sin no more. Cringe memories serve to prevent making the same or similar mistakes. Embrace the cringe because it is a valuable lesson.

I have a couple friends who are evangelicals. They've "forgiven" people who've done pretty nasty things to them. However I can tell they're still rightfully angry at the perpetrators. I try to mention that its ok to be hard-hearted towards these people, but they always say, "it wouldn't be Christian of me." It's sad that they're tying themselves into knots forgiving horrible people.

My aunt had been married to a man who adored her. Took her on trips, gave her expensive jewelry, etc. They were truly in love. When he passed over 40 years ago, she never married again, not because he was the only one, but because as much fun and in love they were, he was a lot of work.

I don't like AA's principles because they stem from Christianity- forced forgiveness, powerlessness and dependence. I'm an atheist so the higher power concept makes me roll my eyes. But also, those principles are dangerous for people suffering trauma. They further take away a trauma survivor's agency. Alcohol addiction has strong genetic component. While you weren't born an alcoholic, your genes likely have made you susceptible to alcohol. Not everyone exposed to alcohol becomes an alcoholic and…

I used to be wishy-washy when I asked thinking that was more of a humble way but it comes across as manipulative than if you don't ask directly. It was extremely difficult for me to do this as I was not allowed to ask for help outside my family as a child. I didn't see this behavior until my therapist pointed it out. I think I probably irritated people over the years. I actually hate it when people are wishy-washy with their requests. As long as a person doesn't beg, just ask. I had no idea I wa…

I went to a volunteer event. There were only two men. Well not really men. One was a 10 year old accompanied by his mom (of course, and she is married to his father), and the other was a teenager who appeared to be doing it as a project for school. About 95 % of donations came from women. The only men who donated were with their wives. Men rarely volunteer for anything unless it's glory work. They never do drudge work cause they always have to be the "hero."

It's funny how much of a fuller picture of what happens in marriages once you're out of one. I took on the role of wife and mother so I assumed I didn't have to work on my personality. I play acted from a script. I'm not saying every married person does this, but it's common. Also I see how husbands treat single ladies like fair game. Husbands get all the benefits and few responsibilities. Their wives will blame you for luring their man cuz he's such a prize. I'm done with the narrative that mar…

TBH, I dressed like that in the 80s because I had no choice. I realize that it's not necessarily Zoomers fault either since they buy what's available and most of it is crap. Dressing in a confident manner isn't necessarily for the male gaze. I think a lot of the sloppy dress is due to the "not like other girls" phenomenon coming from the entertainment industry. People do try to peg you based on how you're dressed, unfortunately. It's easier to dress decently and not have to explain yourself. I l…

I don't believe in the biology claptrap. Way back when we were hanging out on the African savanna, etc all the way until just a few hundred years ago, people married young because they died young. It wasn't a preference so much as reality. A man usually married his cousin and likely didn't have much choice in the matter. I don't even believe in the concept of sex selection until more modern times when people could choose mates. The only reason why LVM go after teens is because they want someone …

It's ok to tell your dad that it isn't his business and it's a bad idea to get with a guy just to have a relationship. He's more concerned about you're not having a relationship than you are and it's not his life. He wouldn't have to put up with an unsuitable man, you would. Obviously if you're dependent on your dad and fear being cut off, that can be problematic. However if you continue to build your life, finances and independence, then it's easier to brush him off.

Bdsmers and "sex-positive" folks like to legitimize their beliefs by creating research and documenting "their community" and "culture." This way they can assert themselves as experts on sexuality and feminism. You don't understand sexuality until you get anal while tied to the rafters and beaten with a broom. You don't know feminism unless you are fully free to do the most humiliating sex acts that send you to the hospital. The mom doesn't seem all that pleased, but hopefully she will learn from…

I went to a community college and it was excellent. The 4 year college I transferred to wasn't. Community college is usually better than the first 2 years at a 4 year college because you either get professionals in your field teaching, or people with masters or doctorates whereas for the first 2 years at a 4 year college you usually get overworked, underpaid TAs. 2 year colleges follow the same curriculum as 4 year colleges and there's no evidence they dumb it down. Your strategy doesn't work for 2 reasons: A. Most men are kind in the very beginning anyway as their own strategy. If you fool yourself into thinking you're attracted to man because he's kind, then you'll like way too many men and discover after the honeymoon stage that few of them are truly kind and they're ugly to boot. I regularly go to restaurants alone. Years ago I felt awkward about doing it but now I'm so comfortable that people are sometimes uncomfortable that I'm comfortable being alone. I like fine dining and I'm not going to wait or be desperate for a man to take me out. I take myself out.

The wife is ok with less sex usually because he's shitty at it, selfish or he nags her all the time. The best solution for a husband is to develop good lovemaking skills or masturbate. It's proven women have fewer orgasms from men in heterosexual than women in lesbian relationships. The idea men have greater need for sex is largely a self serving figment of men's collective imagination as they have no idea what women want.

You don't have a bad picker. It's just that most men are trash and the decent men are tainted by low expectations. I mean really dating should be simple. You go out. You get along and continue. Or you don't and you stop. There should be no reading of tea leaves. No time tables, no best practices, no analyzing conversations, no attraction charts. But the state of dating is bleak. I still go for simple. If you have to wonder what's going on, you didn't break it off soon enough.

However, his advice on dealing with players and spotting a player and how to play a player (don't bother, but I did once and it worked) are really good. It's actually counter to his own advice. Good on them, but ya, not buying it.

Contoversy -I actually saw JP Sears live three years ago-it was a great show. I'd been a fan for years. JP Sears started as a life coach but ended up satirizing life coaching brilliantly (why I started following him). I found out a while back that he'd morphed into a rightwinger and is heading back into actual life coaching probably to take advantage of the popularity of the sheeplike manosphere. It's a shame.

Urgh. I used to believe this BS. Apparently greater access to porn and sex workers hasn't led to a decrease in rapes. Not all men rape. I'm not saying this to let men off the hook, but to put them on it. It's not an uncontrollable innate urge. Many men CAN control their urges and not rape. If they can do it, it's proof that any man is capable of not raping. Maybe if the would be rapists get an urge, they can go home, jerk off and not rape. No sex worker required.

Here's how I treat myself on a low-budget: If you go to a high end restaurant, only go at lunch, order water, appetizers but tip well. Buy only the best snacks. Never compromise on food quality. Always be cute. Buy only stylish clothes and buy them used. I snagged a super cute Tracy Reese frock for 15 on consignment. I think a lot of us have felt we needed a valid excuse to stop interacting with a guy. Just not wanting to interact is enough. There has only been one time on OLD in which a guy gave an explanation about why he didn't want to interact with me. Most men don't overthink this. We shouldn't either.

Sorry for the "back in my day" comments. I do this to illustrate how today's dating environment is an exception to history. Back in my day, we young ladies would brag about all the amazing things a guy did for us - restaurants, flowers, adventures. True the guy could still turn out to be an ass. However, there at least was an attempt to put the best foot forward. Now women brag about how much they put up with and shame other women if they expect more. Back then, a woman would shame you for putti…

Back in the 80s, women were in the workplace. I was in college at the time and still had to defend my quest for career. While men still didn't quite believe the workplace was for women, a few were considering the idea of being a stay at home husband appealing. At the time, I thought that was rather enlightened of those men, but I worried they would never actually learn to make a home. I was right about being worried and wrong about men being enlightened. Well, I'm my 50s, call me 'ancient one.' But seriously, as portrayed by the media, young people seem to lack contact with actual middle aged and elderly people. Media outlets deliberately do this - greenlighting stories by clueless 30 year old "middle-aged women" and redlighting stories by older women or 30 year old women who know they're still young in order to perpetuate the idea that women have a limited shelf life -get desperate.

It's less exploitive than older man younger woman relationship because men have more power at any age and are physically stronger and more abusive. Yet even still a younger man can still be abusive towards an older woman (my grandfather towards my grandmother (5 yrs older) whereas it's rare that a woman will abuse a younger man unless she's actually a pedophile and groomed a boy in high school, etc.

There are so many women who maintain their vitality mainly because they remained single. After I separated from my husband, without even telling anyone, people who knew me commented on how well rested and vital I looked. What stood out to me is how mothers consistently stated they felt worthless. So these women are doing the lion's share of work and adding way more value than men come away with the loss of self-worth while men feel fine about themselves. It's because women aren't viewed as worthy as men unless we contribute a lot more than men. Our worth is in servitude and beauty. Men can just show up.

I never thought about the idea of a guy with a high body count being a rapist. It makes sense since women usually have high boundaries unless they'd been groomed. Another theory about men who are the Lothario types is that while this type might be extremely hot, they go from woman to woman because they have small penises or some other unappetizing hidden abnormality that makes the woman ghost him rather than the reverse. We assume that it's the guy who dumps the woman after sex, but not always.

Of course, being vulnerable or an easier target doesn't mean it's your fault if you get raped. For instance, my old front door wasn't particularly secure. It was easy to jimmy the bolt. The BDSM "community" aka people who do terrible things to each other has adopted this pompous sense that they are soooooo much more enlightened than people in "vanilla" relationships. As an aside, I just splurged on some vanilla paste. I can't wait to put it to use. Vanilla is actually complex and satisfying, not unlike "vanilla" sex which is the discovery of pleasure through pleasure.

I was waiting for my ex for over an hour to pick up a can of paint at Home Depot. I wondered why he was taking so long. Eventually he called with the store assistant on the line and told me that she couldn't find the paint on the shelves. The store assistant got on the line and said my husband did not understand that the paint on the shelf is just a base and color needs to be added to it. She wanted me to explain this to him and reassure him this was how it's done.

Yep. If I inadvertently look at a man around my age or older ie he's in front of me I go in the opposite direction or make a cringing face (pre mask). I'm an older woman so I don't worry about inadvertently looking at a young man. Unless they're extremely pervy I think they consider me like an aunt. However, since discovering FDS, I realize they might go home and fap to Great Aunt porn. Giving a man attention isn't safe under any circumstance.

Congratulations! You're going to start doing right by yourself. To get out of the industry, one thing I suggest is signing up at as many temp firms as possible. While yes, people with experience that can be verified are preferred, you can still get assignments. This allows you to get verifiable experience and connections to build your resume to eventually land your dream job. Plus the nice thing is if you don't like an assignment, you usually can end it without repercussions. I realize making th…

Yeah. It's propaganda and brainwashing. In the US, freedom truly means being able to acquire a lot of money. How this plays out for women is for wealthy, connected women to "break the glass ceiling" by becoming CEO or President. These privileged women can buy their freedom anyway. All other forms of freedom are seen as a giveaways to undeserving people.

From an American perspective, it makes no sense to live with a man without being married. Mainly it's because US laws and culture value marriage which offers more protections to women financially than not being married though not much. I learned really quickly after I started dating. The moment I complimented a guy, he was gone. So if I didn't think a guy was attractive I would say he's so hot and I'm falling in love with him. Of course this was by text not when I'm in the room with him which would be a terrible idea. I don't think it's a good strategy for ridding a guy, not so much that it doesn't work because it does, but because it inflated his ego for the next woman.

Truth. Another truth is that since men BELOW a high value woman's level feel they deserve only the hottest women and their egos are inflated by any hint of a compliment, that woman would have to dig a hole to find a man. I like this idea and support it wholeheartedly. What's interesting is that many of us probably don't get all that horny over this even if the guy is hot. Most of us need context to get horny. To me this is an exercise in our being able to express preferences and desires, not so much the objectification of men per se. Women don't see men as objects, but human beings even if we often know they're shitty. At the same time, I would like to have men get a taste of their own medicine. Feel preyed upon…

I'd always say, "maybe under all that fat." To my ex's credit he did prefer very overweight women, which I'm not. However he didn't like the fact that I like chiseled abs and I cannot lie. I think it's a continuation of the hot wife/schlubby husband trope. By the way, this trope has been around since a…

Exactly! I get wanting revenge, and I always have scenarios in my mind though not as much as after FDS. Even in my worst pickmeisha moments, when a guy ghosted me, I didn't chase after him, demand an explanation, etc. mainly because I already got the answer when he ghosted me. Having said that, when the ghosts came back I still engaged with them. Fortunately, I stopped doing that.

A lot of people are completely unaware of this. It's important to check your states property law statutes. In my state, laws are very unfair to legal renters. However if someone lives with you without a lease, it's completely the opposite. I was on a jury trial involving this very thing. The owner had no case against the squatter, her ex boyfriend, who was charged with breaking in and entering because he established it as his residence. Often just a bill in your name will do the trick.

In my experience, my best outcomes were by just not talking to LV people anymore. You can of course limit contact and selectively cut them off temporarily when they start in on BS, but if you don't have good boundaries they're likely to pull you back in. When you keep lousy people in your life, they will influence you whether you like it or not. They say you're the sum of the 5 people closest to you. Keeping them around visibly will make HV people stay away because an HV person won't want to be …

Too much to unpack here and I really don't want to spend time analyzing the stupid. I don't know how anyone capable of would be under the impression that rapists just haven't found the loves of their lives yet or joke about that. But worse than that, a well-known known online magazine okayed it for publishing. Stuff like this wouldn't have seen the light of day and even more regressive times. I think a lot of these publications are run by rape apologists.

This is why you have to be so careful about allowing a man or anyone for that matter to stay with you indefinitely without a lease. In many states, mine being one of them, you don't need to be on a lease or own a home to be considered a legal resident. If you create a rental agreement with terms of occupancy, you have recourse. If you don't, then it might be harder to get the boyfriend (aka squatter) to move out because you allowed for him to stay without any terms.

That's why the rape scene in "Deliverance" is considered so disturbing. The victim is a man. On the other hand, there are a ton of realistic rape scenes against women in regular movies, not to mention porn, that people say "that's terrible" but it's considered nowhere near as bad as Ned Beatty's character being humiliated in "Deliverance." The only time I've seen it is when a man was an "extreme gatekeeper," and even then it was controlling. A man will put his wife down in some way. For women, it's the reverse. We put literally any man's needs before a woman's. Thanks for taking that step and alerting us to this type of behavior. We do this as a reflex, and we have to stop ourselves in our tracks like you did. Brava!

They said they want 50/50. Therefore scrote. And it's still not 50/50.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights. I'm glad you were able to go on to be so successful after going through that. Its very true that a lot of bullying is instigated due to jealousy towards the target. It can happen to anyone.

You're on point. Joe Rogan has this odd power over a lot of men. They're in awe of him. He's like their alpha wolf and after they hunt down a deer they bring him the best pieces. ("We are not worthy.") I'm sure even the most hetero among them would bend over and take it from him if not present it first. I find Rogan likeable and aggravating at the same time. He's pleasant and open minded, but open minded to the point if someone said, "We should all shoot meth and invade Canada," he'll hear them …

It's true. When I was a teen I was hot for celebrities in their 20s not middle age men.

Bingo. He's soft on some woman who wisely cut him loose, he can't figure out why but somehow it caused him to remember the OP. Whoops he did it again

Oh yeah. I always told my daughter that you're more mature if you accept the stage in life you're at and the limitations of your experience and stay in your lane throughout the journey. Basically appreciate your youth while you have it and not let some old dude take it from you.

In theory she is correct. However, most of us don't have multiple options. I guess the best practice is always say "you have other plans" whether it be a date with someone else or sitting around sorting your sock drawer. The entire dating game is completely like everything else lopsided men's favor. Women get dressed up and try to impress whereas men feel they can show up wearing the t-shirt they wore while mowing the lawn after work fapping to internet porn. Where all the other choices??? This …
