Separation Date in NJTrue, but it’s a temporary custody. She can always file for modification once she is back in the US. I am worried that I might lose the advantage of gaining custody if I don’t file now | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/12/22 07:23 PM
Separation Date in NJI have other reasons to not file yet. She is not working and I work 2 jobs. So I will be screwed as far as alimony goes. I want to cut down my income and wait for a couple of years or move to another state and file. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/12/22 07:12 PM
Separation Date in NJI haven't filed for divorce yet. Is it possible to request in a family court | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/12/22 06:28 PM
Well, I’m officially divorced as of this morning. 12/5/22.Congratulations! A meaningful life begins now | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/12/22 10:56 PM
Mediation questionUnless you get 25 percent or more discount on lump sum, don’t agree to it. Although not likely, she may cohabit with someone or die which would end your payments. What state is this ? | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/11/22 03:09 AM
Has anyone gone back and challenged amount of child support? How come you don’t pay alimony in a 19 year marriage? | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/11/22 11:58 PM
Date of separation and financialsI am in the same situation as you. I would still open a new account because your account is still considered marital any balance as of separation is divisible . You at least need to be able to deduce your savings since separation by way of accounting from your statements | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/11/22 10:38 PM
Phone time Obligation for non custodial parentI have a court order that says I was granted sole legal and physical custody. There is nothing besides that. However during the zoom hearing she requested for weekly phone time with children. Judge directed her to work with my counsel and my lawyer told her to make arrangements with me directly. None of that is entered in the court order. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/11/22 03:46 AM
Phone time Obligation for non custodial parentKudos to you for raising kids as a single parent. It’s hard especially for me because my kids are young. It’s just frustrating at times when everyone is sick. You gave some good advice. I have been bad mouthing their mom, I need self restraint on that | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/11/22 04:23 AM
Phone time Obligation for non custodial parentIt’s not about child support payments. I am just mad that she disappeared on us and I am playing the roles of both parents. Sadly kids don’t want to talk to her for what she did. I just want to stress her out enough to show up and take it from there | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/11/22 04:15 AM
Phone time Obligation for non custodial parentNo she is not paying child support | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/11/22 03:08 AM
Can’t believe this is happening. I need advice on what the next move should be.You are still young. Apply for divorce ASAP, with no kids this will pass like it has never happened. You can start a new life all over again | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/11/22 03:07 AM
How is child support calculated in TexasI agree this is a joke. I have 3 children and my oldest who is 13 wants to live with me. So there is a chance that I’d be awarded custody of one child. Logically that should offset my payments by 20% of her income. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/11/22 03:19 PM
My wife was caught engaging in emotional infidelity and yet I can’t pull the trigger on a divorce. I feel trapped. Would love some advice.Financial hit in your case could not be as bad as many others have endured. We only have one life to live to the fullest; you are going to regret it later when you look back at life. Leave the financials aside, you can earn everything back or have happy life even with little money. Think through it for a few days, unless you are convinced that FUTURE in the marriage will be happy just get out. We get overburdened by financial aspect. It only plays a small part in bringing happiness. I would be h… | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/10/22 04:59 PM
2 jobs. should I drop one?That's a wise decision. you should be fine | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/10/22 06:35 PM
2 jobs. should I drop one?I am in the same situation with 2 jobs for the past 7 years, I have been married for 14 years. Talk to a lawyer ASAP. The income from the second job may still be imputed if you have worked long enough. It's based on average income from recent years, at least that's what I was told in my case for alimony. | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/10/22 12:30 AM
Residency requirement for filingI am working on it. I have to find out how much of the local PI work is valid in the USA. Moving to another state with kids is daunting, but it’s the only way out for me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/10/22 12:08 PM
Residency requirement for filingI have a lawyer for the custody case | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/10/22 03:32 AM
Residency requirement for filingI and kids don't have any contacts with her. I filed for legal custody of kids, and hearing is next week. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/10/22 02:45 AM
[US] filingWhat's your state? | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/10/22 11:13 PM
Residency requirement for filingShe doesn't have dual citizenship, She took her belongings. I believe she has a job there and established bank accounts. But it is hard to gather evidence. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/10/22 10:58 PM
Residency requirement for filingYes, NJ would be terrible in my case. I am an overtime worker and a high earner, she doesn't work. I am planning to move to TX. I will have to live there for 6 months before filing. My worry is if she comes back and files it in NJ. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/10/22 10:56 PM
Decisions for MediationI would go with option 4. I wouldn’t want to feel her presence for the next 7 years in any way. | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/10/22 12:02 PM
What state is best to get divorceThanks, I am debating TX or IN. I have always thought there is going to SS in TX for marriages of 10+ years . It appears that it can be avoided. I have family and friends in TX ñ, so I am leaning toward it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/10/22 02:31 PM
What state is best to get divorceThere isn’t another man as far as I know. There is the risk of her filing first if she comes to know of my motives, that would make the pain and cost of relocation fruitless. Like you said I will try to contact a few other lawyers. She might have lost her residency eligibility in nj with this lapse. NJ might even work in my favor if I get full custody of kids. She would have to pay CS until kids turn 23 with college tuition obligations | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/10/22 08:42 PM
What state is best to get divorceI might get a favorable decision with regards to custody if this continued for an year. Most likely she would be back in a few months to claim that I caused the desertion and her desertion may even become irrelevant . As I heard courts usually side with mothers in custody battles. I am dreaded about alimony than anything else. I probably will not owe a whole lot even if custody judgment is 50/50 | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/10/22 05:34 PM
What state is best to get divorceWhat’s the length of marriage? | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/10/22 11:44 AM
What state is best to get divorceShe will turn as bitter as anyone can get, and fight for what’s entitled to her plus more. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/10/22 01:52 AM
What state is best to get divorceI have no contact with her since she left 3 months ago. I spoke to a few lawyers here, a common scenario they have me expect is that she would show up for divorce proceedings claiming DV and fight for custody and alimony which would be no different than any other contested divorce. They said I am looking at around 10 years of alimony with child support until the age of 23. TX seems reasonable with maximum allowed duration of 5 years and amount capped at 5000 per month. I am a high earner as I wo… | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/10/22 01:36 AM
Should we consider divorce? If she is "considering" divorce then it is highly likely that it will end up there, now are later. You are still young; life is not worth going through stress of friction at home. Don't wait till it's too late | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/10/22 01:06 AM
NJ PA divorce jurisdicationGA seems better, but I don't want to quit my current job. Living in PA I could commute to work | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/08/22 03:23 AM
NJ PA divorce jurisdicationI am sure she will return for divorce proceedings and fight for custody and assets and alimony. She will use domestic violence as the reason for leaving the house. In Nj divorced parents are obligated to college fees. It’s a concern for me. I am going to consult an attorney next week. I at least want to get sole custody | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/08/22 02:51 AM
NJ PA divorce jurisdicationOh i didn't know she can fight to have the jurisdiction moved | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/08/22 01:56 AM
NJ PA divorce jurisdicationChildren are with me currently in NJ, I will move them to PA with me. I can't control what she can do in future yet I want to go ahead with whats best for me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/08/22 01:55 AM
