Great post! I've been wanting to keep trying new things and not get into a routine but I haven't found how to execute this yet. I've got a big ol' list of stuff I want to do, but it's all solo. I suppose I need to make more effort to search for new social activities. I didn't even think about going online to find events. This is amazing advice, and I think this will be very valuable for me. Thank you so much!

I really like this advice. I don't make a whole lot of money right now though. >< As much as I want to move to a huge city, I'm also dreading how I'll have to subsist.

Damn. I never thought that music could be so dividing.

What would I do with the number anyway? >_>Seriously.

"We immediately clicked, I opened with "mind if I drink with you guys while waiting for some friends?" and they offered me a seat. We shot the shit for about 20 and I got to know quite possibly one of the most awesome people I have ever met (let's call him mike). " Because of this, I did this yesterday. :) I went to a crowded bar yesterday but my friends weren't there yet somehow. -_- I got some food, found a friend from class, and asked if I could just shoot the shit with them while I eat. They…

I meant I feel "too good" in the arrogant way. I actually catch myself thinking that way. I think it's a way to rationalize fear of the unknown and overly high expectations.

I think you hit the nail on the head, actually. I've gotten better at jumping into new situations over time, but I suppose this is my "final frontier". :P The best solutions for me would probably be (1) work out more and (2) give less of a fuck about what people think. I tend to overanalyze.

Also, what's the best way to get a number after the fact? (Context: as mentioned earlier, I met the girl through a mutual friend but didn't grab her number.) I was thinking I'd text him to hang out and ask her for # so I can invite her along.

The best explanation is if you watch 4:15 - 6:40 in this video about kino: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV4A9KKjb3I&feature=related

"When you say a while, if you mean like 5 minutes, she probably just got bored, was waiting for you to do something else or make a move and gave up. Even if it's less time it was probably still the same reason, the exception being if you cold approached her on the dance floor, in which case maybe she just wanted to dance and nothing else." It's been pretty much all cold dances. I've had a couple of chicks I know who like me dance a little longer and maybe throw in some of their own moves. (I thi…

Do you need to worry about rolling off on the dance floor?

By the way, I found this video series helpful for explaining the DiCarlo Ladder in a visceral way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV4A9KKjb3I&feature=related

The lookaway thing gave me a really good image. Thanks. I like the handshake idea. I'ma have to do that.

I've seen that article on eye contact. I'm pretty good with that, but I just gotta keep the smile up and shit. Usually when I'm dancing I'm drunk, so I don't think I have a problem with that.

Good stuff. A few questions and comments... "Once you've got your hands on her hips you're most of the way there" I can get to this stage easily. I just ask her to dance, and I put my hands on her hips and we grind. (I define "grind" as she rubs her ass against my crotch.) We do that for a while then she leaves. "Once you've got your hands on her hips you're most of the way there, from here a touch to her lower back, maybe her ass every now and again, and then a little while later move up to her…

That's good advice. I can remember a few times where I've briefly struck up a 1-2 line conversation, but never started asking personal stuff. (Part of it was I had to go to class. Whatev. That would make a good getaway.) Is there a good, context-independent transition from an open about the immediate surroundings to talking about her/you? Maybe that was my AA kicking in. I think when it's clear that I start flirting, and I might get anxious. I gotta chill the fuck out.

That's actually a good idea, but I'm not so sure if I'm into the smoking section. Based off the responses I've been getting, it sounds like I should try escalating during dancing? I'm concerned about how I should behave when I dance. What's fun; what's acceptable; what do bitches love in a dancer; etc. Good point about the starting further down on the kino ladder.

I didn't dance with her at all. She just kinda approached me and told me to GTFO, essentially. I pretty much ignored her, but I noticed she started getting her fucking thug friends and pointing at me. So, I started to "raise an army" by telling the dudes on the platform they should dance with the chicks. One guy came up that I went to high school with but never talked to and he said I was cool. :) Yeah, they thought my friend was a bouncer. :) Didn't know that about bouncers. Good advice.

Yeah, I gotta start doing this more. I've struck up more conversations but I don't really close them out much often for a number or anything.

I think I've read it before, but it was good to re-read it. I just gotta put it in practice. I can see how it helps on the dance floor, but I still think it's pretty noticeable when you use it in conversation. I have a really good memory of a chick touching my arm when she talked to me. I interpreted it as she liked me, not that she was a touchy person. I guess it really depends on who does it and how often they do it right? A girl I used to work with touched everyone, and she was always seen as…

Thanks man. Asking people to bring their friends (that hopefully I haven't met yet) is a really good idea though. Hope your shit goes well.

I've only had one person over at my place. Haha, I've completely forgotten about using my place. I need to stop being lazy and buy some drinks for people, then.

That's a good idea. There aren't any on campus, though. :( Hopefully I end up somewhere with lots of them. :)

At a dance bar, I was completely shitfaced and dancing on one of the two elevated platforms that could hold about six people per. The group I was with (I was visiting another university) started cheering me on and saying I was cool. It was fun as fuck. After being up there for a while, a girl told me that she thought it was time for me to get down. I said no "because I have fuckin' rights" and she started reverse raping me by slamming her butt against my crotch. I'm not sure if this was a shit t…

We went to a theater instead because I turned down the driving shit. She paid for the movie and my food (a light, $1 thingy). Not sure why. Maybe she felt bad about asking me to drive. We were in the movie by ourselves. I touched her a little, and got a little response but not much. I hadn't really tried to touch her before. Later, we went just fucked around in a restaurant for hours. Very fun.

Guess what? She wasn't in class that day. :( Somehow there's no homework again but we're actually forming project groups next week. I also want to dedicate more time to work. I guess I'll drop it. :/

Frankly, it sounds like she's just a straight up party girl looking for a good time. She kissed you (twice). She escalated the kino. She invited you out, and then called you a faggot... and you complied! Should have stood your ground, friend. I did stand my ground. I wasn't very interested when I talked to her, and I think I called her a bitch/slut. I only went about an hour or two later. As I mentioned, she didn't like being called a bitch/slut. She called a truce with me that night where she w…

Yep. She mentioned she was very drunk many times. I was only tipsy. I'm going to take this a lot less seriously than my initial reaction. Thanks.

I was a bit confused by your first comment, but now I know what you mean. I used to have a problem being direct with people, so I think I was overcompensating by being verbally direct with her. Kino escalation would be the way to go.

You misunderstand. I knew these girls pretty well. These are not random people that I've never met. They were in my dorm room, after all.

I don't regret what I did. There's a time and place for everything, and that wasn't a good time for me. I'm just curious what others would do since the situation is real to me.

In the context of hookups, I feel might miss out on some sign of STD or something. How do I address this fear?

Good point on the "nice guy" shit. That's historically been one of my problems. I mentioned that I'd show her web development or something sometime. Probably being too nice there. We should just fuckin' hang out, that's all.

Thanks. I really need to keep perspective on this. It's about trying lots of different people, and remembering my goal is to find someone fun. It's worth the risk. Who cares if the interaction goes bad... it's just another person to cross off my list.
