The news shows the girl as a victim who must defense himself with a knife from punches and kicks from the guy. The facts occurred in a home in Queluz (near Lisbon).

Also said that the clashes [“confrontos”] between the two begin Friday night and then escalated on Saturday. So the couple started a fight (and in a fight we can suppose there are abuse from both sides) then the things get uglier and the guy was stabbed multiple times.

To the journalist the guy (on surgery in hospital) is the (only) aggressor and to the police she is the (only) domestic violence victim here. The case is still under investigation, police says.

Feminine article used with masculine noun. Does Rupert Murdoch now own Portuguese websites? Cause this is the kind of shit i expect from the Daily Telegraph!

"A PSP tomou conta da ocorrência e a mulher foi considerada vítima de violência doméstica."

Only she is considered a victim of DV, so unless the man confessed to attacking her they seem to be taking her word over his. That's what's worrying about this story.
