The average intelligence is actually not so important. The big impact is at the high end of the statistical distribution where women are vastly outnumbered. This is where genius and most of the intellectual property in the information economy lives.

The difference at the high end is not even disputable. The difference at the low end is also not disputable. Dumb men are way dumber than dumb women.

It's the daily mail. They'd print a news article about the sky being green if somebody put a filter and took a picture of a bright sunny day. If you think this is newsworthy, post a link to the actual research.

As for the claim itself, a 4 IQ point difference between averages can be explained by many factors that don't make men or women on average smarter or dumber. Men have a much bigger range of intelligences, both on the high and low side, and this has a big effect on potential bias selection.

Yeah, no. I don't see what business this article has here, ignoring the fact that it's from the Daily Mail, what use is it? Perhaps someone could find it useful for fueling bigotry and justifying unequal treatment of women, so I find it insulting that it's posted here.

I had read before that when IQ tests were originally made, women did better in some areas and men did better in other areas.

The weightings were done to ensure that both men and women averaged 100.

If true, it seems difficult to say that men do 4 points better than women on an IQ test. It would mean that the test has to be recalibrated.

No it is very relevant because female are given a ptreference in the education system.

In the UK they changed the exam system to increase the number of females at University. ie Introduced a lot more coursework. Now they are removing the coursework and the genders are becoming more equal with regards to results.

If men are more intelligent which this study suggests they are then it is only natural that they will rise to the top in many professions where intelligence is required.
