No alimony payments should not be optional. Alimony does need serious reform, given the changed dynamics of today's society in the west (I'm still not sure about the rest of the world as I am not fully knowlegable of cultural mores and opportunities in the third world. I would hazard it does as well.) regarding work and education options for men and women.

Judges don't have the power to order alimony nor child support. The 13th Amendment's ban on involuntary servitude prevents them from making such rulings.

If you look into caselaw about involuntary servitude cases and compare them to how the legal system enforces alimony and child support, the courts are committing textbook involuntary servitude upon the payer. The systems are unconstitutional. It's time people quit accepting such a violation of their Constitutionally protected rights.
